Companion App (Share your Face Scans!)

Postby Andrew on Thu Aug 23, 2018 2:11 am

The companion app is slated to come out today for Android and iOS devices (and indeed, may be out by the time you read this): https://www.easports.com/nba-live/companion-app

As in previous years, it'll allow us to scan our faces for use in The One, both in the demo and the full version. Obviously if you scan your face for the demo and you're happy with the result, there'll be no need to do it again for the full version. You can of course re-scan if you wish.

Feel free to post your scans here when the app is out!

Not close enough, will try a couple more times. What's with the grey eyes? Are these by default? I have brown ones though.

Eye colour was an issue last year as well. Hopefully they can patch it, or we're able to change it in-game.

Was it able to change the colour last year?

Unfortunately not, but with any luck it'll be different this year.

The app isn't compatible with my phone.

Damn.

I'm having that issue too. Funny thing is that last year, I didn't have much trouble with the app at all.

I got to match the colour a couple of times but that's it. The scans don't seem to improve that much by redoing them multiple times.

I'm having a weird problem where after scanning and even accepting a face, the app would close by itself and the face would disappear.

A few people have reported bugs. That happened to me a couple of times last year as well when I was trying to get my scan done.

I did a quick scan in less than optimal lighting, basically just to get a face in the demo as I played through it. The results reflect that, as my eyes show up as brown instead of blue, and the shadows around my eyes subsequently show up on the scan. The colour of my skin is also a little off, and is a little mask-like as a result. Again, that's on me and the fact I scanned in less than ideal lighting. I'll probably give it another go tomorrow in the daylight.

Other than that though, it did a fine job of capturing my features, such as my nose and cheeks. For a scan in bad lighting, it could've turned out a lot worse; the app is pretty good. I've decided that for the moment, my player was cosplaying as The Undertaker beforehand, and forgot to wipe off the makeup. Anywhere, here it is:

You could try looking into the camera at the top of your phone while doing it. That's how I've been getting light colored eyes. My face is like a mask as well. I will retry today and look at the screen while scanning to see if I can get dark eyes.

Best scan in any NBA Live to date. Credit to Q for the tip about eye colour, came out perfect.

Lol getting light eyes is no problem for me. I couldn't figure out how to get dark eyes, so I just gave up

Well from experience, looking at the screen rather than the camera and having some shadow around always seems to have given me darker eyes in the past. I think I got the perfect lighting this time around, though. Not too bright, not too dark, and quite even, so my face and eyes came out very accurately. All without rigging up some kind of "studio" lighting!
