Bibby and K-Mart pushing Odom out of the MVP race. Actually, KG is the only returning player from last month.

Gilbert is so fun to play with; I did a Wizards @ Cavs Playoff quick game in Live 10... good memories. They even had Stevenson do the "I can't feel my face" thing in the intros (I was at that game lol) and even booed him when he touched the ball.

Washington gets back on track with OT win against Denver
By WashingtonWizards.com staff / February 15th, 2006

vs. Denver (15-8) | W 104-101

Everyone knows Denver is home to one of the best perimeter scorers in the league, but the Nuggets haven't earned a 15-8 record solely on Melo's offensive prowess. The Wizards were in for a challenge from the first possession as Denver showcased their stalwart defense to jump out to a 12-2 lead. Voshon Lenard lit up the Wizards D from 3 while Melo worked the ball inside. Wizards coach Eddie Jordan was forced to call a timeout within the first 2 minutes. When Kenyon Martin took his first rest of the game, the duo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood capitalized to bring the Wizards within 4 at the end of Q1. Washington continued to fight, but Denver carried a 53-46 lead into the half.

Coach Jordan switched to a 2-3 zone to begin the second half, and it was enough to outscore the Nuggets 20-16 in Q3. Q4 was evenly played as neither team could outlast the other in the final minutes:

For the second time in the past 3 games, it would come down to OT:
phpBB [video]

As he so often does, Antawn Jamison came up huge with a game-winning dunk with 5 seconds remaining. This capped a 29 points, 10 rebounds performance in his third consecutive double-double. Brendan Haywood also posted a double-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds. Caron Butler has improved substantially in his new role and scored 14 points, including 3 dunks. Marko Jaric continues to struggle with 4 points on 1-8 shooting (0-4 from 3). Gilbert Arenas scored 14 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals. For the Nuggets, Melo effortlessly scored 25 points. Marcus Camby recorded a double-double with 12 points, 14 rebounds. Voshon Lenard scored 20 points, including 3 3-pointers. Andre Miller had a double-double with 12 points, 11 assists.

Player of the Game: Antawn Jamison
Box Score

Off the Court
This is the last game I played before adjusting my sliders. Shooting percentages should be a little more realistic going forward. Looking at the last few games, I'm also realizing I need to get Arenas more shots.

A dramatic finish! I did cringe at that old AI, though; pulling up for the potential gamewinning shot in regulation from beyond half court instead of making the long pass for a better look, and then backing it out to halfcourt for a jumpshot in overtime. On the plus side, if you could force the CPU into those situations, you could win a lot of games.

Yeah, Boykins stepping back to halfcourt was hilarious. The developers certainly didn't spend much time testing the CPU in last-second situations.

Jaric has been underwhelming so far, but hopefully with some adjustments, he can slide back into a more effective performance.

Dunk Contest

Brent Barry re-enters NBA dunk contest at age 34
He's not done yet! 10 years after winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, the aging 3PT specialist will make an unprecedented comeback attempt! Spurs fans are ecstatic, young contestant hopefuls are disappointed, and everyone else is just plain baffled. We're just a few days away from seeing what Brent Barry has up his sleeve.

Jamison and Arenas snubbed?
The votes are in, and some Wizards fans might want to look away this year. Even outside Washington, many fans and analysts felt Arenas and/or Jamison had earned a spot on the Eastern All-Star team. After all, Jamison leads the league in PPG and is top 10 in FG% and RPG. Arenas averages just under 17 PPG and leads the league in APG and SPG. Despite such impressive production, Wizards fans will have to settle with a lone dunk contest appearance from Jamison.

I certainly showed my age when I read that recap and said "Who the fuck is Voshon Lenard?".

Good idea to showcase some of the gameplay. (Y) I actually had my capture card rolling for my first Rockets game in case something noteworthy happened as the live moment typically beats a replay. Lol @ that Jamison fail right out the gate, and then the Andre Miller fail to cap it off ; stupid shit like that still happens in Live 10.

Nice clean pass to Jamison on that dunk. (Y) It didn't have to warp through any players. And then baby Boykins trying to be beta Curry. Something about the way Marv got excited about it was hilarious... what a game.

Looking forward to that dunk contest. (Y) Jamison is an odd choice, even in his prime; I was hoping he would get a bid in the game.

Yeah, I barely remember him. Would've forgotten about him entirely if not for this game because I think he's in the 3PT shooting contest (outside Dynasty mode).

Yeah, I accidentally clicked the dunk/layup button twice with Jamison I believe which caused him to adjust the shot. Looked pretty horrible.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I got Jamison's invitation, but even more surprised to see Brent Barry.

I almost thought you would've set it up for a story element, but it's nice when the games write themselves in that way.

That is one weird field of competitors for the dunk contest! I mean, Mason and Barry at least are former champions, but it's weird that Barry would be selected that deep into his career. I don't remember him having a dunk rating of 80+ in the default rosters of NBA Live 06, that's something of an oversight there.

Gotta love Kenny Smith saying a dunk was very good but not great, but then after the replay, raving how it should be a 50. Sometimes the commentary didn't stitch together very well. Speaking of 50s, Crawford got a generous one on his first attempt, I thought. Brent Barry's first dunk was surprisingly pedestrian for the CPU to attempt. Shame about the tiebreaker round. Mason sure showed up in the final round.

Here are a few extra dunks I practiced beforehand in case I advanced. I'm wondering if the player's pass rating factors into alley oop success because Kenny commented that Jamison is a mediocre passer. It was very difficult to pull off alley oops with him.

Good question, I've never really tested that theory. Might be worth some experimenting, though.

That was a fun break! I played the first half as the West and the second half as the East. I normally limit myself to 2-3 superstar moves in my regular games but of course went all out in this game. Sadly, Kobe and T-Mac didn't play. I believe they're both injured.

Did you edit in the TNT theme at the beginning of the dunk contest?

I'm jealous as for whatever reason Live 10 downgraded and scrapped everything from All-Star Weekend except the game, and even the shitty Sony games had the Skills Challenge (my favorite event).

Breems wrote:Sadly, Kobe and T-Mac didn't play. I believe they're both injured.

Ouch; I just had them duel in my story, and luckily T got the best of Kobe. Carter is always a go though; I'm surprised young Iggy got a bid.

That looked fun. That last dunk was awesome, how Shaq just threw it through the rim.

Too bad Jaric didn't make the three-point shootout.

Damn, that must've been a year before the ESPN integration; the weirdest thing in Live 10 is they have ESPN but tried to make the scoreboard look like TNT.

Give us a sentimental video of Jaric practicing threes in the practice facility in hopes of making the contest next year, only to be traded a week later.

Really nice job with the All-Star highlight reel. I thought Shaq was going to take a three there, similar to his awkward attempt in the 1995 game.

phpBB [video]

From memory, he'd pledged to take at least five threes during the game, but only attempted the one.

Washington's big fourth-quarter comeback beats Knicks
By WashingtonWizards.com staff / February 23rd, 2006

vs. New York Knicks (10-8) | W 117-114 (OT)

After a fun All-Star weekend in Houston, it was time to hit the hardwood on business once again. The Wizards had a tough job ahead of them in facing a trio of prolific perimeter scorers in Marbury, Crawford, and Richardson. Behind their home crowd, the Wizards managed a 25-21 lead in Q1. Starbury and Q. Richardson turned up the heat in Q2, however, and helped the Knicks outscore the Wizards 32-19 in the quarter to take a 9-point lead into halftime. The Wizards struggled offensively in the first half, but Brendan Haywood helped clean up misses for 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Nate Robinson rises for the slam

The Knicks maintained a lead throughout Q3 as their perimeter scorers attacked the rim. Jamison, who had a quiet first half, began to tag-team with Haywood for rebounds and buckets. Washington picked up the pace late in Q3 to narrow the gap, but bench production became a major issue for the Wizards. With the starters resting, the Knicks took their largest lead of the game (11) with 6 minutes remaining. The Wizards' starters returned to the game, and Gilbert Arenas led a furious comeback to put the Wizards back on top.

Watch the final 2 possessions of regulation:

Watch the Wizards pull away in OT:
phpBB [video]

The Wizards continued to close out the game with FTs as the Knicks made costly TOs and missed shots. The Knicks squandered their last chance to tie the game with a missed 3 from Maurice Taylor. Haywood, Jamison, and Arenas posted double-doubles with 24 points/15 rebounds (10 offensive), 27 points/11 rebounds, and 22 points/10 assists respectively. Butler scored 15 and Jaric added 13. Starbury had a monster game with 29 points and 13 assists. Q. Richardson scored 17, Maurice Taylor 16, and Crawford 14.

Player of the Game: Brendan Haywood
Box Score

Off the Court
Did sliiiightly better from 3. I'm going to adjust the sliders a little more. Jaric is very lucky he made the trade deadline safely. He actually played OK in this one. He wasn't my primary option on that last possession in regulation, but he was WIDE open. I guess I dribbled in too far and the shot got slightly contested, but I think it was just Jaric being Jaric.

My favorite memories from the All-Star games are of Shaq's antics, especially when he ran the point.
