Doc trades his son for Marcin Gortat

LA Clippers trade Austin Rivers to Washington Wizards for Marcin Gortat

It seemed fairly clear that Marcin Gortat and the Washington Wizards were ready to part ways. Now they will.

The Wizards have agreed to trade Gortat, their starting center, to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Austin Rivers, according to a person familiar with the deal.

The 1-for-1 swap was described to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Wednesday because neither team had announced the move. Both players are entering the final season of their contracts and are set to earn similar salaries, making a straight-up exchange work under NBA rules.

I'm sure CP3 is enjoying seeing Doc go Stannis Baratheon on Austin.

Interesting...

GM Lawrence Frank trying to run Doc out of LAC?

Wizards gonna fire Scott Brooks in the near future and get Doc?

Getting Gortat as replacement for the soon to be departing DeAndre Jordan?

Frank & West obviously had to stop the insanity. Doc wouldn't come to his senses about his son.

Great pickup as they found a sucker to take him and got an insurance policy for DeAndre

I'm hearing that Doc has basically relinquished or been stripped of the power that would let him make this move (or not), so it was apparently either Jerry West's or Lawrence Frank's call. Running with the Game of Thrones reference, I guess that makes it more like Melisandre pushing for Shireen's sacrifice in the first place, and Stannis standing forlornly by as it happened. Now it's just left to see if DeAndre Jordan will disappear as a big chunk of Stannis' army did.

The level of nepotism and his belief in his son was off the charts. Even George Karl was resigned to the fact that his son wasn't very good. You didn't see him going out of his way to trade or sign him

It was hilarious when his other children came out and tried to convince everyone there was no nepotism at play. Sure, kids.

These slander against a leader that has coached grown men to championships is sickening.

A dog could've coached that team to a title. The more time that passes with no success for Doc leads me to believe he really isn't a good coach at all but just lucky he was gifted Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett

Unfortunately, he's been living off of those years for a decade now with no real positive results. He's swindling the clippers selling them on false hopes

I wouldn't say he isn't good at all, but it seems like he's lost his touch. Maybe getting GM power went to his head? He obviously benefited from Danny Ainge's craftiness in putting a team together in Boston. Going it alone with control in the front office and on the sidelines, it hasn't worked out.

I think so. It looked like they were going to be the Done Thing for new coaches a couple of years ago, with a few successful demands for front office power in addition to the head coaching gig. Their general lack of success handling both jobs is probably going to see that trend change. Given the Timberwolves' rise, I'd say Thibs will get to hold onto both positions for the foreseeable future, unless he yields the front office job to focus on the sidelines.
