Tennis Video Games (AO Tennis, Tennis World Tour, etc)

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Huh?
Fortnite is still cross platform. Xbox, PC, Switch, and even mobile players can form a squad and play together at the same time. That's why when the game was released for iOS the mobile users were easy kills for the PC and Xbox users, same thing now happening with the Switch users being fodder.

I don't play fortnite. I remember someone on youtube showed a username that had a space in it or something that proved the game was cross platform a long while back and I wasn't sure if that was fortnite. And of course as I search for it it just so happens to be huge in cross platform like you said, yet Sony is trying to lock it down.

Back to Tennis...Does AO have anything that involving custom racquets and racquet grips?

Yeah, you can actually create your own racket. And not only one, numerous rackets. Like you can have 12 saved to one player.

The game has some seriously deep customization. You can upload your own logos to put on clothing, you can create entire venues (You should see some of the ones that have been created, like the US Open court (Arthur Ashe Stadium) in one of those videos I posted. You can even add a custom logo to your racket, you can see the "Logo" option at the bottom on the screenshot.

You can also have up to 8 outfits saved for each player.

Here is a match my brother and I played last night at the created venue for Queens Club. Federer vs Djokovic, I'm Federer. Solid match.

Ball Speed at 90, with game speed at 75.

To give you an idea of how good the create-a-player feature is in this game, I created this young Nadal. This is strictly using the create a player tool.

The only thing I struggled on a little was his eyebrows, I want them to sit closer to his eyes.

Final Nadal. Worked on this for a solid 3 hours.

We needed a younger Nadal that we could customize. Search under Dee4three to download if you have the game. I gave him a couple of his 2006 outfits.

Christ, I've been working on this all day. My actual final young Nadal creation.

You can download this under username dee4three if you have the game.

Match vs CPU on Legend Difficulty.

I am McEnroe. I didnt win one game on the top, I am trying to improve on it. I could just stay on the bottom side all match (That option exists), but I feel like thats taking the easier way out.

Either way, good match.

Some cool developments with AO International Tennis.

I've been super active on the Operation Sports thread, which has now branched off into a Editing Thread, and a Media Thread, so we now have three threads open and active. That's not the cool part.

I decided that I would compile a list of user feedback from the Operation Sports audience, as well as things I've seen on social media. I asked the Operation Sports users if they had any feedback they wanted to add (Fixes/feedback in general/ideas), and they threw a few more ideas at me. So I emailed Big Ant Studios customer service (Gentleman named Matt who has been awesome with answering questions). Matt loved my email, but stated it was so detailed that he wanted to get it to one of the developers. So this is the cool part.

The Development Director sent me a long email back addressing every aspect of my bulleted/numbered list. He told me that he agreed with many of the gameplay ideas, and told me exactly where they were in the process of fixing/tweaking them, and stated in which order he was going to work on them. Not only that, he was honest and told me what he wouldn't implement in the short term or for this version (Example, more hairstyles), and why he wouldn't be doing it. As a bonus, I sent him a gameplay video showing many of the areas of concern, which he watched and got back to me immediately stating what he saw, and what he was going to do to fix it. I also gave him an idea of mine about a "Preferred Surface" option in the create a player/edit play screens, which would allow us to choose the players surface preference and it would impact the attributes/skills on those surfaces. Think Nadal, who dominates on Clay but not on Grass. With the surface option, you could choose your main surface (Which all attributes/skills gained would work 100% on), a second surface (Which would garner a -3 on the appropriate attributes/skills), and a 3rd, which would garner a -5. This would be a first in tennis games, and add to the realism and the authenticity when playing players casually or in career. He said he loved the idea, and wants to try and implement it after the other gameplay tweaks are made.

I love transparency, and being able to have that dialogue directly with the Development Director of the game was pretty awesome. I think they know that they have something special with this game even as it is, and they are really being embraced by the community because of the way they handle feedback.

I wish all companies (Big and small) had this type of communication.

Awesome indeed! That kind of communication is definitely one of the great things about gaming these days. Even better when the developers are receptive to it.

It's a great thing but it's still a small studio.
Relative to NBA2K, that's Ronnie2K's job... Oh wait

About this game, there's a demo on steam.

The demo doesn't offer gameplay, allows you to explore the academy (player creations etc), and create your own.

Unless they updated it from 2 weeks ago.

AO has gone from mixed on Steam, to "Mostly Positive". Small sample size, but i believe that the new patches are making a huge difference. They just put through another positive patch today.

The community on Operation Sports is super positive about this game, as am I. Many of the things I brought to attention has been fixed/implemented. They are really listening to the community, its paying dividends. TWT is mostly negative on Steam, they are getting killed. I returned it on Steam today because it was really, really poor. And it was super limited. They also havn't had any communication on social media with anybody since June 12th (When they sent out an apology). However, the apology feels empty, considering the game is still $49.99, and $69.99 if you want Agassi and McEnroe. The Steam summer sale is going on right now, and TWT is still full price, even with all its complaints and shortcomings. I think they are in a "take the money and run" mode, as the game seems to be getting no attention whatsoever.

Love what I am seeing from BigAntStudios and the development team, and the reception on Operation Sports.

Man, I remember the Virtua Tennis days. It was one of the most arcade games ever, but I did have a lot of fun.

AO is definitely the best tennis game I've ever played. I have very little interest in tennis games and their obsession with making you start a career with a fictional character playing other fictional characters and 5 questionably chosen pros. This game scratches perfectly that itch of being able to play ANY tournament that the community can create with real players.
But maybe somebody can help me understand the feature that lets you import a face because I simply am incapable of understanding it. I've read the instructions, I've even contacted the developer, I do not understand how it works. So if @Dee4Three or anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. Because I used to have lots of players created in Grand Slam 2 despite the gameplay being awful. I'd love to be able to do the same here.
