This may be perceived as the selfish intent to just get the draft class in hand ASAP - sans comprehension for all the detailed work that goes into an undertaking of this magnitude. IT'S NOT (in total). It's mostly rooted in a much more practical perspective, with regards to the all the hard work that you and the CF makers have put in.
As I type this here in Chicago - it's June 6th. We just received news a few days ago that the early release of 2K19 will be September 7th. Now - I can't speak for anyone else here but I could never dedicate anymore than 2 to 3 hours to video games per day. Between work, school, kids, sleep, and life otherwise - it's just unrealistic. That said - there are 93 days to release of the latest iteration of the game. I (like many here) play all games in a season. You add in Summer-League and playoffs and you could be playing up to 120 games total. And that's just if you're attempting to fit in one season. I believe many here are waiting for the release to begin their franchise. Unfortunately (if set on utilizing this particular draft class), it can't begin until release. If only attempting to complete one full season (and intent on purchasing the new version of 2K upon release), it leaves roughly 90 days to play 85-90 (minimally) to 120 (maximally) games. That's a lot of game-playing in a short span of time!
Now - should this be the ultimate burden in regards to releasing? No! It's your work, done at your leisure. Life tosses adversity our way with no concerns for what we previously had planned. Obviously, your familial dealings trump some silly draft class.
As you have in past draft classes - you've done a thorough, bang-up job in regards to creating content with a fine eye for the details. PLEASE LET ME STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!! It shouldn't be understated. What you're doing for PC players of the game is glorious. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! Time is a commodity! And you spending yours in such a selfless fashion is kind and admirable. That should be the narrative here. You do this for free, with everyone else in mind. That said - I'd like to see your hard work (along with everyone else that has contributed) utilized to the utmost. AND the selfish side of me eagerly anticipates release, so I can get at least one full season in before 2k19 is released.
Just my humble perspective. If I've come off as anything but that previously - my apologies. Be well.
We don't know what the modding situation will be like in 2k19. 2k might make it more difficult which would result in people sticking with 2k18.
Even if modding is still the same it's going to take a while for things to get going, probably another couple months before any significant progress is made on that front. I know I'll still be playing 2k18 until that time comes, as I'm sure others will. Being able to "start today" and import custom rosters/draft classes will be a much better experience than 2k19 upon release, especially with how many cyberfaces will be included in this project. The only thing that would be missing is new features added into the game (I'll admit I'm not following it closely, but something like a full G-League system for example). Everything else will be easily modded into 2k18 (new jerseys, arenas, etc.)
I don't think it's a huge deal to get it out immediately for these reasons. This game won't be suddenly obsolete and unplayable as soon as 2k19 comes out.
