2K18 to 2K17 Cyberface Conversions - Pack 2 and 3 RELEASED

Postby Dee4Three on Mon Jun 04, 2018 4:51 am

Hi all,

It's taken me over a week to get these conversions right. This includes me editing the face texture to match the body, shrinkwrapping the players with 2K17 bodies and adding my own muscle, making sure the eyes worked properly and that no jersey clipping was present, editing the face structure of a few of the players, etc. It's been a ton of trial and error to get these right, but I think you will love the final results.

Some credit needs to be given to Trevor and TGsoGood on the NLSC for getting me started, as Trevor figured out that this was possible and put out the basic tutorial, and TGsoGood figured out the a resolve for the face texture issue. Trevor was amazing with the troubleshooting process, him and I worked a few days on it to make sure we could do full conversions. Also credit to the original makes of the cyberfaces (You will see credits below). In this cyberface pack, 9 conversions exist, only 2 of which were the original game cyberfaces. The other 7 were made by the talented NLSC community. I have also supplied links to the original creators 2K18 threads, that way if you are also playing 2K18, you can download the original work.

Note: Most of these are compatible with my Draft, All-Time Teams and Classic Teams rosters. Dirk however, has a CF number of 2198 assigned to him because thats what has on my unreleased V2 of my classic teams roster. If you want to use that Dirk before I release my V2, you can assign it using the Limnono Modifier. Same with Westbrook, who I believe has a different assigned number for the 11-12 Thunder in my roster.

Hope you enjoy, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to do this. Do you think you could do a Iverson conversion from the BABAlls chinese site?

It depends, if I think it's better than the game made one, sure.

But I'd have to see it first. Also, I would give credit to the original author, but I don't even know how to access that site.

Also keep in mind, we can't convert 3D hair.

So here is the result.

I converted that EGS Iverson, and even kept him with the 2K18 body for now. As I suspected, it's 3D hair on the original. So while it looks okay from the broadcast view, it doesn't look as good close up. I agree with you that this is amazing work by EGS, but without the conversion of 3D hair, it won't be complete. I didn't completely do the skin tone accurately, because I just wanted to show you what it looked like without the 3D hair. I was able to give him his tattoos, though.

I won't use this one, considering the 3D hair portion is so vital. See screenshots below:

I may release it as part of my next cyberface pack. That pack would include Jamal Mashburn, Charlie Ward, Scot Pollard, Gerald Wallace, Nate Thurmond, etc. Probably 10 faces total.

I'm hesitant to release it because of the 3D hair issue, but I probably will.

Wow that D-Fish came out nice, Mr. Star did an excellent job. I hadn't even come across this creation in 2K18, but 2K's default bald Derek Fisher was way off. I am going to use this one in both games.

I will be converting my Kobe from 2K18, if that would be of use to you for the roster. It's his '08 version, but I can make a couple tweaks to adapt it to his '10 version.

Do you need any help in converting other players for the update of your roster?

After seeing his Fisher, I had to convert it. He did such a great job. Totally agree. I made some adjustments to his face shape/ears, and adjusted his nose.

I think that the part that is really rewarding is getting the face texture color right. So much messing with this via the scale/offsets and even the texture itself. I got them mostly perfect, but it was tough. If you noticed, I corrected the Pierce who had a bit of a darker face, he matches now.

I'd love to look at another 09-10 Kobe. So that would be great.

I like my Jazz Russell better than 2K18, so I won't be converting that one. I am probably going to do Isaac Austin, and Keith Askins for the 96-97 Heat, can't do Crotty because of the 3D hair. I have a Nate Thurmond that I made, but I may convert the 2K18 one to see how it comes out. I also made a Gerald Wallace for the 01-02 kings (short hair version), but I'll be converting the one from 2K18, it will come out accurate even without the 3D hair, because he didn't have the long braids back at that time.

I also need to convert Charlie Ward and one of the created Bynums. So there is work to do. I'll release a second cyberface pack when those guys are done.

It would be nice to have Vin Baker, and a few of the other new legends for my all time teams and draft rosters, though. The problem is: Players like Bob Love have 3D hair, so some may not be possible. You could always tackle those in your free time if you want, if you are bored that is. Thanks for that offer! That's appreciated.

If you noticed, even without the 3D hair the Iverson is ALMOST acceptable. But it really just doesn't cut it. It's not enough for a player to just look good from the broadcast view, they should look right close up.

Are you using any of my rosters for 2K17? The best way to see who those rosters need is by taking a quick look at them.

No problem. I should be releasing more work (I've done like 30+ body edits to fix the skinny body model problem). I'll probably release them with the Classic Teams Roster, as well as my updates to the draft and all-time teams rosters. Whenever I get around to that, I need to make more time for them.

Ok yeah that's a good idea I can take a look in-game and see what I can help with.

Converted my '08 version of Kobe from 2K18. I still need to do some sculpting of the body since I shrinkwrapped to his 2K17 default model and that needs some tweaking. Torogi was nice enough to allow me to use his Kobe CF as a base, so credit to him for all the face sculpting, which I thought he did a phenomenal job on.

I just changed the textures to reflect the version of Kobe I was after - blended parts of Torogi's original face texture, the new default Kobe CF in 2K18 (with buzz cut), and did some painting of my own for the facial hair.

I like the clean texture, but the eye shape is off. The eyes look a little wide and also squinty, and the bottom half of his face is protruding out a bit much, and possibly too wide. His skin tone is also a bit dark compared to real life.

I know that's your rough draft, just giving a little feedback. The best Kobe I have ever seen is Basagre's from NBA 2K15. You can see it by going here: Kobe Bryant Face

The problem with the Kobe I have now is that he looks a bit "dirty", I don't know how else to word it. His goatee is thick, his skin texture isn't right, and his hairline is a bit think for that year and it's also not really accurate.

The best thing about Basagres 2K15 Bean is that he has the perfect headshape, the perfect amount of stubble on the top of his head, he looks like the 2010 Kobe as opposed to the older final years Kobe, and his eyes are on point.

He's one of the toughest players to make. I've tried to tweak some other Kobe's, and I can't get it to my liking.

Appreciate the feedback, at the end of day I want to get these players right. I’ll keep this stuff in mind.

I will also take a look at Basagre’s Kobe and get some insights into how it is sculpted.

One other question: does it seem to you that the overall size of the head is off in mine? Vertically it seems a bit too tall to me.

Yeah a little, but the size and length of the jaw also adds into that perception.

Some of the heads from 2K18 come over SLIGHTLY big, like Mr. Stars Vince. I was able to downsize it a tad so it looks right.

I went into 2K15 for a minute and took some snapshots. By the way, Basagre himself said that he is going to try and mimic his 2K15 one if he gets the chance, but I guess it doesnt hurt to have two people trying.

He looks great here, but even better in game.

Good lord that is amazing...

I didn't know Basagre was working on it. With that being the case, I'll let him do his thing and I'll shift my attention to something else. No better person to help recreate the mod than the original creator. I'll take a look at the players you named previously and see what I can do there.

I didn't mod 2K15 at all so I don't even have the tools or the knowledge of how to open up those files anyway.

If he needs any help with the textures in either adapting them to 2K17 I can help in that regard. He's also welcome to use any of my textures as a base if they end up being of use to him.

Yeah that makes sense. Curious, How much are you playing NBA 2K17 anyway? I know that most have moved onto 2K18, but I've stuck around with 2K17 even though I own 2K18.

If you havn't used my rosters yet, you may want to give them a try so you can see what they have and do not, just a suggestion. I converted Brent Barry, Gerald Wallace and Rasho Nesterovic, Nate Thurmond, Jamal Mashburn and Andrew Bynum last night. The problem with Wallace is: I need to be able to give him black, short hair, not even 3D, just hair to cover the mess that was under his real hair. In the 01-02 season, he didn't have dreads or tattoos, he just had short black hair. With Nesterovic, I really need his 3D hair. If not, I'll stick with the Nesteroivic (Absolutely passable) that I already have for the 04-05 Spurs on my roster.
