Whoa, nice!

Can't wait until this is done so I can throw it into 2K17. Thanks for all the hard work!

Has anyone ever had a player's forehead be fine when it is relaxed but then when it wrinkles it turns a completely different color?

This is normal. I forget which file controls it but it is one inside of the face.iff file.

Also, I think we should layout a full process in this thread for converting faces for both games, then we can add a tutorial to the 2K17 section later.
More people frequent the 2K18 thread anyway.

what were the specific steps to get the 2K18 faces to show up in 2K17?

A couple of notes after testing multiple CF's in 2K17..

Still having issues across CF's with the forehead color and paleness upon being converted. The good news is that there are no issues with eye animations, no glitching/clipping jerseys, and no glitching portraits like we dealt with in 2K18.

We are some fixed textures away from being able to just drop 2K18 CF's into 2K17 and playing with them, but without any 3d hair from 2K18. I will continue to see if there is any way around it - or if we could find a way to replace it with 2K17 3D hair. I have not modded much in 2K17 so I don't know how you guys applied 3D hair between CF's last year or if it was possible.

There was a guy on youtube that gave me the hint I needed. He said something about EGS MLLR manipulates the color_o.TXTR to change the base skin tone.

For conversions from 2K18 back to 2K17:

I was able to get the faces to work properly. You do not need to do anything in photoshop or gimp.
You will need Notepad or Notepad++

for any subfiles contained within the 2K18 png.iff and face.iff that contain "color_o.TXTR" you need to add data for scale and offset.
"Scale" and "Offset" are used in 2K17.

Here is an example. I added the 2 highlighted lines from a 2K17 cyberface
Image

Without those lines the face will be mostly white, but once I added those lines of data and began messing around with "Scale" values, this is what happened

Image

So I followed trevorjpt33's steps to convert 2K18 Dennis smith into a 2K17 face + added "Scale" and "Offset" data from a 2K17 player with similar skin tone and this happened.

Image

I had to add "Scale" and "Offset" data to face_wrinklecolor_o.TXTR and face_color_o.TXTR contained in the face.iff file.
If a player has tattoos, you will probably need to this for the chest and leg "color_o.TXTR" files inside the png.iff file

here is the final result in video form (some glitching when updating wingspan but it shows perfectly once I exit edit screen)
phpBB [video]

Here are the files if you want to add this to your 2K17 mods... I will test more later
PNG.iff - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1M-wKc ... lMQExvj84f
Face.iff - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1zzv2r ... ZX2JATGQnS

I'm off to work. More testing tomorrow

Yess thank you! It had been stumping me for the past two days.

That's literally the only issue I had converting CF's from 2K18 --> 2K17. Now my mind can stop spinning lol.

I tried converting the Kemp from 2K18 to 2K17. Followed the directions to a T (so I thought) but he's invisible when I go into the game.

Was it just the hihead.SCNE or did you also include his 3D hair?

I can send you my Kemp file so you can try and figure out what went wrong if you would like.

That would be helpful, thanks! If I can figure it out, I want to convert a couple other faces as well.

And I chose the 2K18 Kemp and deleted the scne files as instructed, I did the 2K18 hihead.scne file edits like the goods tutorial (I've done that part successfully before), I did the renaming to "player" to all the hihead wording in the file other than the first and last hiheads, and I dragged the appearance data over from 2K17. I also did the edits TGsoGood suggested in the face file.

So here's what happened.

I was able to finally get him to show up in game. But his face texture is a tad light (I did what you recommended goods). He's also looking off to the left for some reason, and his arms are black every time I go into edit player.

And no, the files that you had didn't rename the hihead model file to player. I did the editing in notepad as instructed.

What we've encountered is that with conversions, for some reason their eyes don't move around in the edit player screen, but they work completely normal in a game. That's been the case in 2k17 and 2k18.

I didn't rename the files because I didn't actually follow all of the steps outlined in the instructional post simply because I understand how it works now.
If you rename the .model file inside of the note pad then you must also rename the actual .model file itself.

as far as skin tone being too light, you need to copy the "Scale" and "Offset" data from a 2K17 face.iff that has the actual skin tone that you want to use.

For the black arms, try changing the wingspan and putting it back. I think exiting edit player and going back in works also.
If none of that works the add the "mask" data shown below the highlighted data

As stated in my prior post, I did do the scale and offset in notepad on the appropriate face files. He is still a bit pale. I'm posting pictures in a moment.

I wonder if there is a way around that... I also have some jersey glitching. Where his back will show through the jersey.

I know how to edit body types... but should I use the 2K17 way to edit him after I convert him to 2K17, or will I need to use the 2K18 method to edit the body type?

2k17 worked perfect, his body looks awesome now.

The eyes looking off to the right thing is bugging me though.... I might mess around in blender to see if I can fix it.

Skin tone wise, he is SLIGHTLY pale, I'm going to mess around with it.

Here are the Kemp screens after my conversion (These screens are of 2K17, with the 2K18 Kemp).

Here is with my body edit in Blender: He looks so much better with the added muscle

Image

Before my body edit with a different global

Image

The eye issue in edit player where he is looking off to the side

Image

The bulging of the eyes and black arms issue

Image

So overall he looks good in game... when he loads up right. It's like a 50-50 chance that he will. No matter what you do in edit player (If he looks mostly okay when you exit), he will still sometimes start a game glitched out (Either his jersey being raised, or black arms, or bulging eyes). Same if you keep going back into edit player, he changes almost every time.

Also, not sure if you have encountered this... but one of his many forms is demon Kemp, Hellfire Kemp... the Satan Kemp... it's creepy... but he does this sometimes when you go into games, or in edit player...

So there is currently no known fix for the jersey bug in-game beyond lowering in-game texture detail? I have the player show up but the jersey is almost a cone getting pulled halfway across the court. The eyes look to the right and may need re-positioned but this is so promising. Hopefully further progress is made.

I know that I can fix the jersey glitching when converting to 2K17. The glitching on demon Kemp was gone after I edited the body in blender.

For those who have questions on the Kemp conversion I did. Here are a couple quick notes:

1. Trevor and The Goods process absolutely works, I have the edited 2K18 face and png in my 2K17 modded folder.

2. The first picture I posted was my final edit, where he looked basically perfect in game. It was after I edited his body in blender. His eyes are looking straight forward, his jersey is not glitching, no glitching in game at all. In fact, even his skin tone looks pretty good.

3. Issues still present: Issues present themselves if you go each time you go into edit player, or any time you change his height/length/Muscle type, etc. Sometimes he will have black arms, sometimes his eyes will roll into the back of his head, sometimes his eyes bulge, etc. This also happens randomly when you start a game. Sometimes you will start a game, and he looks perfect, boot up the game again and he may have one or two black arms, boot it up again and he may have bulging eyes or look like the devil, boot it up again and it might be normal again.

4. I have not tried shrinkwrapping, I might test it out when I get home to see if it fixes some glitching.
