2018 PLAYOFFS: (3) Philadelphia vs. (6) Miami

Postby Lamrock on Thu Apr 12, 2018 1:27 pm

I'm sure nobody saw the PHI/MIL series thread, right? RIGHT?!

Anyway, the Sixers take on the Heat in the first round. The Heat don't have much in the way of star power (sorry to all you Slovenians out there) but they are well-coached and are loaded with fan-favorites. Expect to say, "oh shit, is that James Johnson?", "I was wondering what happened to Kelly Olynyk" and "damn it's time for Wade to retire".

Philly comes into this series absolutely scorching, having won 16 straight games. However, they've beaten a lot of bad teams during this streak, and we don't know how effective Embiid will be, or how much he will play... They have more talent than the Heat, but a young team going up against all these wily veterans could be trouble. Still, I'll trust the process and say Philly in... 7

Philly in 5. I don't see how this Miami team could challenge them.

76ers in 5. I think the current winning streak will come to an end in the first round, but that won't be the end of Philly's postseason.

Sixers in 4 if Whiteside decides to make beef with Embiid on Twitter again.

76ers are very much underrated powerhouse in the East and I heavily favor them to make the finals this year. Remember Warriors suddenly showing up in the Finals a few years back? This might be the year 76ers does it in similar fashion and signal start of their own dynasty era in the East. Or perhaps I am speaking one year too soon.

76ers in 5 because Wade does not get swept.

i look forward to seeing SPO's defensive schemes. Miami does the have personnel to limit Simmons but at the cost of crap offense/limited perimeter shooting (winslow, JJ).

sneaky upset play.

Simmons looked a little too hyper at the start of his first Playoffs game, missing some easy shots around the basket by putting them up too strong. He got it going, though.

17 points, 9 rebounds, 14 assists in a 130-103 victory. Great debut.

Was tonight's game a punchline how good the 76ers are? To consider this game was without their starting superstar center Embiid, and yet a blowout win against an ok team like the Heat.

Simmons is a beast. Wade, let's go, get your knees on for a game or two.

One game is a small sample size to say the least, but I don't think they're a fluke. They are that much better this year, and the future looks bright.

Vintage Wade is showing up! Even with lost explosiveness, it's nice to see him dominating even for a short stretch against a very good team.

Refs have been very whistle happy so far, I'd say in favor of Heat.

Pretty fun game this gonna be. Too bad I can only watch first half.

EDIT: Ben Simmons is one of a kind. He seems so poised and calm under heavy defensive pressure and even when provocatively fouled. Maturity level is very un-rookie like. On the contrary, Whiteside can't even keep himself on the floor with very abrupt unnecessary fouls. Frustrating when you consider his enormous talent and situation where he could absolutely dominate as Ilyasova is playing a center position in place of injured Embiid.

Wade played a near perfect first half.

A vintage performance by Dwyane Wade, indeed. Dragic will probably cop some heat for that layup at the end; at least there was no altercation this time.

For every one good Wade, you will get 3 or 4 kneeless Wade in following games. It's been a theme for awhile now.

Bigger issue is the Whiteside, a misleading superstar that's bound to fail you. Can you believe the Heat opted to pay this guy over Wade a few years ago. Not surprised you hardly see career one franchise player these days.

Whiteside's attitude is very poor indeed. What started as something of a feel good story with him making it back to the league and showing he belongs has quickly soured due to his ego and selfishness.

I've always thought of Spo as a smart, fair and balanced coach. I believe his reason for cutting Whitesides minutes so much the second half of the season was the best decision for the team. With that being said, obviously Whiteside will have some suitors when he becomes available. He's an overrated player who struggles laterally, and has a very questionable offensive game, also a questionable motor.

I don't think that his motor has been put into question this year alone, I feel like he's been giving suspect effort for a couple years now.

Never been a big fan, and while not a Heat fan per say, I trust Spoelstra.

Wonder what team would be a good destination for Whiteside. Any involved team probably would want to send a bad contract back as well. But even if you find a team that could match his skill, you got to ask them about their thoughts on his personality. Good luck to them with that, lol.

Whiteside got some more playing time today and he seemed to play pretty well, helping limit Embiid to a subpar performance offensively. But despite Wade taking over once again, the Sixers were just too good. I'm really starting to think Philly could make it to the Finals

This series is so physical, I love it. This series, the Cle-Ind & Utah/Jazz series really has been a fun watch so far.

The others a bit less, the above series have a sense of playoff intensity to them for me. The Bucks/C's too to a certain extent but these three are on another (playoff) level.
