He only started 7 of 18 games in his second season, the year he broke his foot.

Kareem started every game he played since the Games Started statistic was first recorded. I guess it's possible he started every game before that too. The same probably goes for Wilt and Russell, though the statistic was not kept during their careers.

Apart from those possibilities, I can't think of anyone. A few players were in a position to do so (Duncan and Mutombo come to mind) but have come off the bench at least once the last couple of years.

Nope, I remember at somepoint this season Duncan came off the bench and people were comparing him to AI who didn't want to come off the bench. That was his first game off the bench!
Karl Malone has started every game except for 5 in his rookie season. Anther close one was Patrick Ewing, but the Magics screwed his perfect starting record in his final season
I guess its time to look at the new faces like Carmelo and LeBron and see if they will ever come off the bench

David Robinson's the closest I could find. He didn't start in 1 game in each of his first two years.

No, he's been brought off the bench a few times. One time for sure was during the 95-96 season.

I know, that's why I said: A few players were in a position to do so (Duncan and Mutombo come to mind) but have come off the bench at least once the last couple of years. ;) Needless to say, Duncan isn't as close to retirement as Mutombo but he had started every game he played in the NBA up until last season. If not for that one game, he would have been on the way to starting his entire career.

If you restrict the stats to the playoffs, MJ and Olajuwon are two examples of players that started in all postseason contests they appeared in, David Robinson and Karl Malone are two more; I'm sure there's quite a few who have started all of their playoff games.

Well, Robert Parish was in an awful lot of games, could it be him?
I think he holds the record for most games played in his career... :?

He does hold that record having eclipsed Kareem's mark back in the 95/96 season, but he isn't close to having started every game in his career. His numbers are a little lopsided as Games Started was not a recorded statistic during the first six or seven years of his career, but even if he had started all of those games he still wouldn't be all that close to starting every game of his career.
