It was rumored that he may attempt a comeback at age 50. I guess he wrote his playing weight on a white board or chalkboard, and his trainer got really pumped up about it and said he was "ready" if MJ decided to give it a go.

Obviously MJ at 50 wouldn't have been able to produce a lot, but who says he couldn't have been a bench player for 10-15 minutes a game and still show some production? Would have been pretty cool to watch him try. His problem wouldn't be as much getting some shots up, it would be more getting up and down the floor consistently, being able to keep up. Also laterally staying with players.

Never get tired of watching MJ mixes. (Y)

I doubt that it was ever likely he was making a comeback at 50. He's expressed regret over his Wizards comeback in the past, and as a majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets by the time he was 50, there would've been a lot of messing around to make it happen, since active players can't be owners. I remember Jalen Rose confidently predicting it would happen, but then I also recall him confidently telling people LeBron James and Chris Bosh were going to the Knicks in 2010, so...

This is still the best compilation ive ever seen. Nobody in the NBA today, or ever in basketball history was this talented. It's poetry in motion.

Yes, I've watched this whole video a few times, even though its over 2 hours long.

Alright, I've reset this thread to where it was at before things got out of hand. From here on out, on-topic posts only. No personal attacks, no derailment. I don't want to have to do this again.

This is when people thought it could possibly happen. I guess he had just beat Kidd-Gilchrist in a game of one on one at age 50, I don't doubt he could still play.

Again not saying he could play a lot, or even start. But remember, Kevin Willis played into his mid 40s, granted he was a big guy but still.

I remember the discussions, but I do think people made too much of it, especially since he wouldn't have been able to do so with his ownership stake. I guess he could've transferred his stake to someone else as he did with his Wizards comeback, but I presume it'd be a tad more complicated this time, since he has a controlling interest. It was just as likely to be him getting back in shape as he entered his 50s and having a run with the young guys for his own amusement, which is what it turned out to be.

If it had happened, he might've been good in spurts. I'm glad he didn't, though. There comes a time when the past needs to be left in the past, and it's best to leave the memories alone.

I agree. It was more talk than anything. I would have liked to see it, but I understand the legacy portion of it.

Some people say he hurt that when he came back for the Wizards, I disagree with that. But I do see where people could feel that way.

I have mixed opinions about that. On one hand, it doesn't erase his career accomplishments, and he added a couple more distinctions such as the oldest player to score 50 or more, the most points by a 40+ year old, and of course he padded his career totals as well. On the other hand, his averages and whatnot dipped slightly, and the storybook ending of the 1998 Finals is somewhat undone by a far less impressive coda, so to speak. It was tough watching him try to be a sixth man (though that didn't last long into the 2003 season) and have some single digit scoring games coming off the bench. He's expressed regret over the comeback himself, and I think in some respects it would've been better if he hadn't done it, but obviously what's done is done.

If they brought back the Legends game, or perhaps held one for charity, it'd be cool to see him participate in that. That's the only comeback I'd want to see at this juncture, though.

Makes sense. Hard to argue with that. When he was right with the Wizards, he still showed dominance at times.

I always thought they should have a legends game at the all star break, not the legends participating in the celebrity game.

In Tennis, they have the champions tour. It's cool to see Sampras take on Agassi, etc. I'm talking full court, not half court like the big 3 league. Also, more big names would be nice.

They had the Legends Game up until 1993, but a few too many guys got hurt. That combined with guys sucking from oxygen tanks on the bench made it a little depressing, resulting in it being replaced with the Rookie Game, which of course eventually became the Rising Stars Challenge.

I didn't even know they did that up until 1993.

There are some other ones on YouTube as well. Sadly, it's clear a few of those greats hadn't really touched a basketball since hanging it up; another reason why it was replaced by the rookie game.

Just had a chance to watch this, not bad! Some of these guys still moved really well actually. I liked the competition as well, after watching this I wish it was still around.

Thanks for sharing.
