mike did the same thing like 3 years ago? not sure, only his teammates responded the wrong way, by doin even worse...
Sun Sep 05, 2004 3:01 pm
Yeah, he had some unkind words for Kwame Brown that didn't have the desired effect.
Sun Sep 05, 2004 3:04 pm
yes that the one andrew. thanks for pointing out the year.
about the mj thing with washinton. i think the wizard players were out for themselves and not the good of the team so anything he said was pointless. also i think the fact that he came back from a second retirement and many thought he was not up to par also had something to do with it. if mj said that back when he was at his prime, everyone would have listened.

melo doesn't suck he's just not a very good team basketball player
And that's whats going to keep them from winning a championship. Now with Kenyon Martin on the team he's going to want a lot of touches. Voshon Lenard isn't a guy who will give up the ball much either. So if Melo doesn't learn to play team basketball and give Martin the ball when he's flashing in the post or let Lenard take his shots the Nuggets aren't going anywhere. I'm not saying Anthony isn't the go-to-guy for the Nuggets, he certainly is, but he now has an All-Star on his team who will want to be kept happy, and that will be hard considering he just finished playing with Jason Kidd. So Melo just has to learn when to do it himself and when to give the ball up and the Nuggets will be a better team.
As for the article, When your team is struggling and your struggling as well, you can't expect to get the playing time you want when there are other guys on the team who are better than you and are making their shots and playing defense. Melo didn't successfully drive the ball to the hoop ONCE in the Olympics without getting the ball poked away or turning it over, so he took jump shots and didn't make them. He played very poorly on the defensive end and he expects playing time? I certainly don't doubt his skill but when your with the Nuggets your not playing with Iverson, Marbury, Marion and Duncan. So if he wants to play international ball for the USA he's going to either have to get used to not being the go-to-guy or not play at all.

I wonder how he'd feel about being selected as an All-Star reserve. Barring a major popularity boost or an established star being traded or getting injured, his first selection probably won't be as a starter.
Sun Sep 05, 2004 4:28 pm
I didn't think Melo played that terribly at all. He just didn't get the minutes enough to play basketball. One of the last games, he came in right before half time. He hit a 3 and wasn't put back in the game after that..
He was one of the players on the team that could hit an outside shot and he wasn't played.. He did miss some shots at times when he just played for two minutes for so, but I didn't think that's enough time to get into any kind of groove on the court..
And I'm glad he's speaking his mind.
And also, RJ and Mabury and most of the guys really.. had spirts when they missed shots. Some of them couldn't hit a lot of shots, but I don't hear any complaining about that.
And Melo was one of the best players in exhibition, when Odom was doing terribly. Odom started playing awesomely in the actual games though.

kinda off-topic in a way, but since t-mac's movement to the west who do you see starting in his place? lebron james? kidd? francis?

East:
C - Shaquille O'neal
PF - Jermaine O'Neal
SF - Vince Carter
SG - Allen Iverson
PG - Steve Francis
West:
C - Yao Ming
PF - Tim Duncan
SF - Kevin Garnett
SG - Tracy McGrady
PG - Kobe Bryant
Just a guess, its usually based on popularity, even if the player has a bad season (Carter anyone?), a popular player will always make the all-star game.

I doubt Francis will start over LeBron. If LeBron shows good progress, he'll be good enough and popular enough to be a starter in the All Star game.
Mon Sep 06, 2004 2:53 am
aren't they gonna put lebron on the sg or sf spot?
Mon Sep 06, 2004 5:14 am

JKidd will probably still make it over Francis.

I think it'll probably be Kidd or LeBron.

Assuming they're all available to play in the game, I'm guessing the starting backcourt for the East will either be LeBron/AI, AI/Kidd or LeBron/Kidd.

id love to see Hamilton or Billups make the All Star team....im thinking mVP will make it
Tue Sep 07, 2004 12:26 am
Carmelo just has no idea how to be a second or third option. I don't think Melo's ever in his life not been the star of his team.
Tue Sep 07, 2004 3:18 am
yeah seeing shaq vs yao in the all star game will be great.

Nice to see that hating on VC is still the flavour of the month.
You actually think that Yao deserved his All-Star spot the last two seasons? I sure as hell don't. What about A.I who had his worst season last year yet no one seemed to care, people single out Carter cause it's the easy thing to do.
Tue Sep 07, 2004 6:14 am
I recall Carter playing like 10 games total in the first half of the year and still getting a starting all-star spot. TO me, that is overrated. If you don't even play most of the 1st half of the year you shouldn't be on the team. No matter who you are.

I also recall Steve Francis missing the entire first half of a season and getting to start the All-Star game yet no one makes a big deal about that. It's just easy to hate on Carter and until he gets a mean streak, it'll continue to be that way.
