Possible topic for next podcast or an article: ( I know we have kind of discussed this already)
Is modding really dying... Or has it evolved into better customization in game?
Modding always has its up and down periods but with this gen, the general consensus is that modding has died off. It has picked up slightly this year. With 2k17, we have the most modding tools and resources of this generation. So why have we not yet reached a new golden era of modding?
There are a number of factors at play but I believe the real reason modding has not picked up more for 2K17 is because 2K has added so many 2K Share options to 2K17. Court editor, jersey editor, stadium creator, and full rebrands can all be created and shared in game.
There are thousands of rebranding packages to download from other users in 2k17. Each package includes 2 jerseys, a court and stadium. That would have been 4 seperate mod releases in the past. You could even say it would have been more, if you factor in edits that can now be made in game to team colors, logos, sounds, and team data (team name, city, abbreviations)
I could really go on and on about how we can overwrite the names of real players and use them as look-a-likes, or how we have a created player pool to easily add players to any roster wthin seconds instead of recreating that plaayer for each roster.
Modding isn't dying its just moving from nlsc (and other sites) directly to 2K servers in game with all the customization options.
I think more people should focus on using NLSC to advertise their releases if they don't know how to mod outside of the game or don't have an interest in modding.
With Vlad at 2K I hope expect even more improvements to customization.
