The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed in principle to a six-year contract with restricted free agent Darius Miles, sources tell ESPN Insider Chad Ford.
While both sources stress that the deal hasn't been finalized, the sides are close enough that one could be completed as soon as Tuesday. Miles is in Portland for the talks.
Miles was a breakout performer for the Blazers over the last two months of last season, averaging 12.6 points and 4.5 rebounds after being acquired from Cleveland. Moreover, his production was going up as the season wound down, and he was a big part of the team's late playoff push.
Miles felt that Portland's original offer sheet was too low, causing him to look elsewhere. However, Miles didn't find many suitors on the free agent market because of his restricted tag. Teams were reluctant to give him an offer sheet, fearing that the Blazers would match it.
Over the past few days, however, the Blazers increased their offer to Miles and he became more comfortable returning to Portland.
