Episode #166 (July 8th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane, & Kenny

We're back to our regular schedule this week, with Episode #166 of the NLSC Podcast! Join Arcane, Kenny, and I as we talk about the release of NBA Live Mobile, recent NLSC Greatness games in 2K Pro-Am, and the latest offseason movement, including Kevin Durant's surprising departure.

On this week's show...

  • The server move is complete and a few lingering problems have been addressed, so it should be business as usual from here on out!
  • NBA Live Mobile has been released worldwide for Android and iOS devices. We offer up some initial impressions of the game, and touch again on the future of NBA Live on consoles.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: Another win for NLSC Greatness, grinding towards 99 Overall, and paying towards 88 Overall.
  • Kevin Durant has shocked the basketball world by joining the Golden State Warriors. What does this mean for next season, and his legacy?
  • We give our thoughts on the other major offseason moves from the past week, including Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo to the Chicago Bulls.
  • Episode #166 of the NLSC Podcast ends with our new favourite game, Trivia Time! Can you answer questions about some old school basketball games before Arcane and Kenny?

Episode #167 (July 15th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane, & Kenny

Episode #167 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! We're coming up to the really slow part of the offseason, but we do have some news to discuss this week in the form of a new NBA Live 16 roster update, as well as some more 2K Pro-Am games to recap. Also, a significant rule change, and the retirement of a future Hall of Famer.

On this week's show...

  • A new NBA Live 16 roster has been pushed through, featuring pre-Draft transactions such as Derrick Rose to New York. Unfortunately, it seems that no further offseason updates are planned at this time.
  • Development of NBA Live 17 is still underway, as EA reps have been posting photos of rookie face scans that are being conducted during Summer League play.
  • Our latest 2K Pro-Am sessions have yielded more fun and frustration, including an impressive win with a very undersized centre, and a somewhat angry dunk. A couple more community members have also recently joined in the fun.
  • The NBA has announced further changes to the Hack-a-Shaq rules. A lot of fans are criticising the decision, but we've got a very different take on the matter.
  • Tim Duncan announced his retirement with little fanfare, walking away from the NBA in the most Tim Duncan way possible. We reflect on the career of the player most now consider to be the greatest power forward of all-time.
  • Episode #167 of the NLSC Podcast ends with our new favourite game, Trivia Time! Play along at home and answer this week's questions about NBA Live, NBA 2K, and NBA Jam.

Episode #168 (July 21st, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

Episode #168 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane and I are a two-man booth this week, while Kenny is out of town celebrating his 30th birthday. With a lack of meaningful NBA news, it's a shorter episode, but the past week has delivered us some promising details on NBA 2K17, and an NBA Live 17 rumour.

On this week's show...

  • After a Monday Tip-Off column lamenting the lack of a preview season, we received a developer blog on the improvements to MyGM and MyLEAGUE in NBA 2K17. We recap all the details, and offer up our thoughts.
  • An interesting rumour is making the rounds regarding BDotADot possibly providing some motion capture for NBA Live 17. Could we see a lot more signature animations, when the game drops in early 2017?
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: A recap of last week's 2K Pro-Am games featuring NLSC Greatness, recent activities in MyCAREER, and a bargain on a LeBron James card in MyTEAM.
  • We wrap up Episode #168 of the NLSC Podcast with a long-term Bold Prediction by Kenny that turned out to be correct. Unfortunately, he isn't around to gloat about it.

Episode #169 (July 29th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #169 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! It's a three man booth once again this week, as Arcane, Kenny, and I discuss the latest NBA 2K17 previews, our recent sessions of 2K Pro-Am in NBA 2K16, and a few NBA topics.

On this week's show...

  • As he was out of town for last week's episode, Kenny gives his thoughts on league expansion coming to MyLEAGUE and MyGM in NBA 2K17.
  • National teams have been confirmed for NBA 2K17, with Team USA and the Australian Boomers being the first squads to be revealed.
  • The final two pre-order bonuses for NBA 2K17 have been confirmed, with one of them being the 1992 Dream Team (Charles Barkley included!). We discuss whether or not it's a fair move to make content like that pre-order exclusive.
  • We also note that Danilo Gallinari will appear on the Italian cover of NBA 2K17, and give our thoughts on the first official screenshot featuring (most of) Team USA 2016.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: a rough start for the new NLSC 2K Pro-Am Team - Snoop's Sliders - and further impressions of NBA Live Mobile.
  • Moving on to some NBA topics, we discuss the NBA's decision to move the 2017 All-Star Weekend from Charlotte, due to the ongoing issues with the HB2 bill.
  • NBA Legend Nate Thurmond passed away last week. He was before our time, but we still have a few things to say in tribute to the first NBA player to ever register a quadruple-double.
  • If you want to pick up a Kevin Durant Oklahoma City Thunder jersey, there are some excellent bargains going right now that won't even set you back a dollar.
  • Amar'e Stoudemire has called it a career, so we reminisce about some of STAT's highlights.
  • We wrap up Episode #169 of the NLSC Podcast with the return of Trivia Time!

Episode #170 (August 5th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #170 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Unfortunately, we encountered some technical difficulties with the software we normally use to record the show, and its temporary replacement definitely isn't as good. Nevertheless, we hope you'll enjoy another episode in which we discuss the latest NBA 2K17 previews, recap our week in basketball gaming, and play our favourite podcast game.

On this week's show...

  • Two new NBA 2K17 screenshots have officially been released, featuring Team USA 2016 and the pre-order exclusive 1992 Dream Team. The screenshots are drawing some mixed reactions to say the least, so we chime in with our own critique.
  • Once again, we lament the lack of news about NBA 2K17, which isn't helping us get hyped for this year's game from Visual Concepts. Who is directing the MyCAREER story this year? We need to know!
  • For anyone who is still speculating on whether EA is planning on dropping the console version of NBA Live in favour of the mobile platform, their latest investor release mentions a console release for Live in Q1 2017.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: Bratty behaviour in 2K Pro-Am, and no, not by us. We're left asking ourselves, is the mode sim enough for our tastes? Also, can't we all just get along?
  • The basketball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games will be tipping off soon. Team USA seems like a safe bet for the gold (what a bold prediction!), but what about our team, the Australian Boomers?
  • We wrap up Episode #170 of the NLSC Podcast with this week's edition of Trivia Time!

Episode #171 (August 12th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #171 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! It's our longest episode in a while as we had a lot to talk about this week, from the first teaser trailer for NBA 2K17, to the Boomers vs. Team USA. Also, some of our favourite memories of Dynasty Mode, and our most recent sessions of 2K Pro-Am.

On this week's show...

  • The first official teaser trailer for NBA 2K17 has been released. We react to the trailer, and some of us struggle to correctly articulate the name of the US national anthem.
  • On the subject of teasers and news, we also discuss the problem with gaming sites and YouTubers who engage in clickbait, tricking their fellow basketball gamers with fake news and completely unrelated content.
  • Will an increase in video game prices and the rise of microtransactions result in longer development cycles for sports games?
  • What are some of our favourite moments in Dynasty Mode/franchise modes over the years? Which was the best edition of the mode?
  • In our Week in Basketball Gaming: Possible burnout on 2K Pro-Am, and perspective on some of the improvements to shooting mechanics in recent years.
  • The Orlando Magic have unveiled what is perhaps our new least favourite alternate jersey. Bring on the Nike contract!
  • Australia had a fine performance against the USA in the preliminary round of the 2016 Olympic basketball tournament. We're still picking the USA to win the gold, but are we more optimistic about the Boomers' chances of winning a medal?
  • We wrap up Episode #171 of the NLSC Podcast with another edition of Trivia Time!

Episode #172 (August 19th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #172 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane, Kenny, and I as we discuss all of the NBA 2K17 news that had broken before we started recording, the 2016 Olympics in Rio (specifically the Australian Boomers), and our worst ever session of 2K Pro-Am in NBA 2K16.

On this week's show...

  • 2K has been releasing NBA 2K17 screenshots all week, which has given us all something to analyse. What do we make of the screens that have been released so far?
  • What we really want to see, however, is gameplay, and deep dive developer blogs. Once again, we discuss how quiet this preview season has been.
  • On a brighter note, NBA 2K17 will be appearing at Gamescom, which should at least mean more to talk about next week...and shaky, over-the-shoulder footage.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: We have what is easily our worst and least enjoyable session of 2K Pro-Am in NBA 2K16, but we're not ready to give up...yet. Also, more on Arcane's MyCAREER.
  • LeBron James will remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers, with the largest per-year contract in NBA history. He's also taken some shots at Michael Jordan.
  • The basketball tournament at the 2016 Olympics in Rio continues to be an exciting one, as the Australian Boomers are in the thick of the medal hunt.
  • We play another round of Trivia Time! This week's segment highlights the importance of doing the proper research when devising questions.
  • Episode #172 of the NLSC Podcast wraps up with a cool story about Michael Jordan and a passionate fan.

Episode #173 (August 26th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #173 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane, Kenny, and I have plenty to discuss this week with a barrage of NBA 2K17 news, some very enjoyable sessions of 2K Pro-Am in NBA 2K16, and the conclusion of the basketball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games.

On this week's show...

  • After a very quiet preview season, the floodgates have seemingly opened on NBA 2K17 news. We begin with a few thoughts on the "Friction" trailer.
  • Hands-on impressions from various media outlets have given us some information about a few of the key changes to gameplay this year. We break down some of the key points, and give our opinions.
  • Does this year's Achievement list tell us anything about NBA 2K17, specifically the direction of MyCAREER?
  • Player ratings are starting to be revealed, and Karl-Anthony Towns' 88 Overall in particular has caught our eye.
  • Speaking of Towns, he's been revealed as the cover player for the MyNBA2K17 app. As hinted at a few months ago, the app will include face scanning capabilities, but unfortunately the PC version has been left out.
  • We reflect on an incident involving basketball gamers and NBA 2K's community managers on Twitter last week, which rubbed quite a few people the wrong way.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: a couple of very exciting sessions of 2K Pro-Am, featuring some clutch performances.
  • Following their best ever run, the Australian Boomers fell to Spain in the bronze medal game at the 2016 Olympic Games. We're certainly proud, but also a little disappointed, not to mention miffed with the officiating.
  • We wrap up Episode #173 of the NLSC Podcast with another edition of Trivia Time!

Episode #174 (September 2nd, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #174 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! The release of NBA 2K17 is getting closer and closer, and once again we've got a significant amount of news to cover. We also have some stories to share about the latest exploits of the NLSC squad in 2K Pro-Am, and a trip down memory lane with NBA 2K12.

On this week's show...

  • We tip things off with a discussion about The Prelude, the downloadable experience for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K17 that will preview MyCAREER.
  • A recent 2K media day has given us quite a bit of information about NBA 2K17, and a lot of it is very good news. A lot of positive impressions are also coming out of the recent community event.
  • At last, we have our first deep-dive developer blog, courtesy of Gameplay Director Mike Wang! The man they call Beluba has given us some very promising information about this year's game.
  • How optimistic and hyped are we for NBA 2K17, just a couple of weeks away from the Early Tip-Off Weekend?
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: a goal is achieved by the NLSC squad in 2K Pro-Am. Also, some unfinished business is finally completed in NBA 2K12.
  • We wrap up another episode with our new favourite game, Trivia Time! The score is close, and we have a fresh new batch of questions for at least the next six weeks.

Episode #175 (September 9th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #175 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! We're in the final countdown to NBA 2K17, so it's been another busy week with several previews. Join us as we react to the latest news, share our recent basketball gaming experiences, and talk about a couple of other topics that caught our attention.

On this week's show...

  • We now know a lot more about what to expect from MyCAREER in NBA 2K17, by way of a developer blog and a trailer. What do we think of this year's approach?
  • The MyNBA2K17 app is out now, but as of recording, it isn't much use yet.
  • A couple of new tidbits about MyLEAGUE and MyCAREER have given us some ideas for league expansion. We're also really glad that there'll be no four point line.
  • The Arena Authenticity trailer spotlighted some cool presentation elements, but are we particularly hyped about them?
  • We discuss what certainly appears to be a hoax about a PC version of NBA Live 17, and recap what we know so far about the next game from EA Sports.
  • In another social media gaffe, Ronnie 2K continues to alienate basketball gamers who dare to express legitimate complaints about NBA 2K.
  • Our Week in Basketball Gaming includes some of our final sessions of 2K Pro-Am - though there might be a couple more - and a return to NBA 2K11 for the Jordan Challenge. Also, a bit of talk about NBA Live 16 (yes, it's been a while).
  • We wrap up Episode #175 of the NLSC Podcast with another game of Trivia Time!

Episode #176 (September 16th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

Episode #176 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Arcane and I are your hosts this week, and with the imminent release of NBA 2K17, we have some final previews and developer blogs to talk about. We also discuss an issue from the past week that has us a bit riled up, with a couple of profanities slipping through as a result. Just a heads up for anyone who strongly objects to a bit of bad language!

On this week's show...

  • NBA 2K17 is almost here! A new Momentous Trailer marks the occasion; did it hype us up?
  • We give our thoughts on The Prelude, from the glimpse at the story to our hands-on impressions of how the game feels on the sticks.
  • Face scanning has had mixed results so far, but at least one of us is happy not to be dealing with the PlayStation Camera anymore. There's also been some good news, as the MyNBA2K17 app will support face scanning for the PC version.
  • NBA 2K17 will feature an expanded roster of broadcasters, and dynamic commentary. We certainly like the sound of that.
  • Although it's put an end to an idea we had for a game of MyLEAGUE Online, the developer blog for MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and the aforementioned MLO has delivered some otherwise fantastic news.
  • MyTEAM has received some solid improvements in NBA 2K17, but we're still a bit sceptical about how good the pack odds will be. How honest is that trailer?
  • NBA 2K17 has taken a shot at NBA Live (or more specifically, NBA Elite 11) which frankly, we find to be a little petty. We discuss the potshot, and things get a little profane in the process.
  • We wrap up Episode #176 of the NLSC Podcast with Our Week in Basketball Gaming. This week, it's the swansong for the NLSC 2K Pro-Am team in NBA 2K16, some unfinished business in NBA 2K11, and more tales from MyCAREER.

Episode #177 (September 23rd, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #177 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! As you might expect, this week's episode is basically the NBA 2K17 Show, as Arcane, Kenny, and I talk about our first week with this year's game from Visual Concepts.

On this week's show...

  • Before we get into our initial impressions of NBA 2K17, we note that our community is already hard at work figuring out how to mod the game. In fact, some of the first mods have already been released!
  • We tip off our NBA 2K17 impressions with our take on gameplay, including our opinions on the new shooting mechanics, the responsiveness of the controls, and more.
  • After "Livin' Da Dream" left us feeling underwhelmed last year, we're actually not too down on the story in this year's MyCAREER. There are a few other things we're liking about this year's mode, too.
  • Unfortunately, 2K Pro-Am has been somewhat of a frustrating experience so far. We comment on the new features we like, the removal of customisation out of the gate (which we don't), and some annoying moments with the mode's gameplay.
  • On a more positive note, we have a lot of good things to say about MyLEAGUE, MyGM, and MyLEAGUE Online. We're all looking forward to getting into some more franchise gaming in NBA 2K17.
  • We wrap up Episode #177 of the NLSC Podcast with a few final first impressions of NBA 2K17, with the disclaimer that we'll be playing this game for a while, and some of our opinions may be subject to change the more we play.

Episode #178 (September 30th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & Kenny

Episode #178 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! We've got plenty more NBA 2K17 impressions to share with our listeners this week, as well our thoughts on a couple of recent NBA stories (hey, remember real basketball?).

On this week's show...

  • We tip things off with another quick update on some recent advancements in NBA 2K17 modding. Our community has continued to make some exciting discoveries over the past week.
  • Our plans to pick up where we left off with the NLSC 2K Pro-Am team have hit a snag, as the mode has not been kind to us. In fact, following patch 1.03, it's close to unplayable. We share a few of our complaints.
  • Once again, we touch on the fact that Virtual Currency rewards have been severely nerfed in this year's game, and wonder if the new patch has reduced them even further.
  • While we have our complaints this week, it's not all bad news. We still have a very high opinion of offline/single player gameplay in NBA 2K17, and have some positive experiences to share.
  • Wrapping up Our Week in Basketball Gaming, a few thoughts on finishing the Jordan Challenge in NBA 2K11, ahead of next week's Wayback Wednesday feature.
  • After 21 NBA seasons, Kevin Garnett is hanging up his sneakers. We reflect on the career of The Big Ticket, the last remaining NBA player from the 16-bit era.
  • From the sounds of things, Chris Bosh's career might also be over. However, given the health scares he's endured the past couple of seasons, it may be for the best.

Episode #179 (October 6th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

Episode #179 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we discuss our past week in basketball gaming, a few NBA 2K17 news stories, and a couple of recent events in the NBA.

On this week's show...

  • Patch 1.03 has now been released for the PC and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K17. Further tweaks are also forthcoming.
  • Our modding community continues to do some fantastic work, as 3D editing has come to this year's game.
  • It's been brought to our attention that in order to upgrade your MyPLAYER beyond 95 Overall, you need to level up your reputation in MyPARK. We're not too thrilled to hear that.
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: 2K Pro-Am has actually been fun! Also, some of our recent achievements in MyCAREER.
  • Bad news for first overall pick Ben Simmons, as he'll be out for some time after fracturing his foot before his rookie season has even begun.
  • We wrap up Episode #179 of the NLSC Podcast with a nice story about David Blatt.

On the next podcast, you should talk about how retro modding is coming back via NBA 2k17! You stated in one of your articles that certain rosters that people used to make arnt really made anymore. This year we are changing that (with two rosters released and another in the works).

We have many talented cf modders like PeacemanNOT, mr.star and TBM who are doing some classic players.

Pretty cool stuff!

Definitely something I'll look to note in the next segment on modding.

Episode #180 (October 14th, 2016)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

Episode #180 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Join Arcane and I as we discuss the latest official updates for NBA 2K17, an epic game of 2K Pro-Am, a new twist in the Chris Bosh saga, and more.

On this week's show...

  • Patch 1.04 has come through for the PC and PlayStation 4 versions of NBA 2K17. We break down the update, noting the difference in the size of the patches between platforms, and provide some impressions.
  • We spotlight some recent NBA 2K17 modding projects, including one that's been receiving some mainstream gaming press. As always, our community is doing some outstanding work!
  • Estimates of the Week 1 sales of NBA 2K17 are lower than the figures for NBA 2K16. Is it just regression to the mean, or is the compressed preview season to blame?
  • In Our Week in Basketball Gaming: Arcane's game gets fixed, the NLSC enjoys an epic double overtime victory in 2K Pro-Am, and NBA 2K14 PC doesn't compare favourably to NBA 2K17.
  • We wrap up Episode #180 of the NLSC Podcast with the latest development in the Chris Bosh saga. Are the Miami Heat shooting themselves in the foot with the way they're handling the situation?

Thanks for mentioning my roster/Devo and Skillzfromthe6.

I'll probably be making a "Mod review" video that highlights some of the projects.

Thanks again,
