PRELIMINARY MVP

Mon Aug 23, 2004 11:25 pm

Who was the MVP of the preliminary play?

My MVP's for each team would be:

Australia: Andrew Bogut
China: Yao Ming
Spain: Pau Gasol
Puerto Rico: Arroyo
Argentina: No idea! Has Manu done well?
Serbia and Montenegro: No idea also
New Zealand: Kirk Penney???
USA: Tim Duncan
Lithuania: Their captain
Greece: No idea
Angola: Dont have one
Italy: Don't know either

Help me out with the other teams!

Tournament MVP so far... I would say Yao. If you took him away...China would become...nothing

Serbia and Montenegro: No idea also

Bodiroga would be the pick, though Radmanovic and Vujanic have had some good games.

New Zealand: Kirk Penney???

I'd go with Phil Jones, for some reason Penney hasn't had the minutes - could be his D. Pero's a bushpig, Dickel's a crybaby and Phil Jones has done well though he hasn't always shot too well. Still shooting 40-odd % in certain games isn't that bad.

Greece: No idea

Probably Papadopolous - their centre. No one else really comes to mind.

Italy: Don't know either

I would say Basile has been their best, from the limited stuff I saw. But apparently Dennis Marconato has made some noise also. Chiacig their other centre is an absolute waste of space.

Angola: Dont have one

They're just lucky African nations get a chance at all.

Lithuania: Their captain

Damn I forgot the guys name again, is it Siskauskas? He has probably been their most consistent, and at 6'7 or 6'8 has done a lot of ball handling. Stombergas had a couple of iffy games, and so did Jasikevicius - though he was the hero against USA.

I think the quarters and semi's are going to reveal the true MVP of the tournament. I don't think Ming deserves the MVP honours for the tourny so far. He hasn't exactly carried China anywhere, and on top of that after their 2nd (I think) game he was ready to quit, talking about retirement  And now if he beats Serbia after I said that, I'm going to have to swollow my feet whole with the shoes and socks on and all

Australia: Andrew Bogut
China: Yao Ming
Spain: Pau Gasol
Puerto Rico: Arroyo
Argentina: Ginobili (he was great against Serbia and Scola has done well too)
Serbia and Montenegro: Bodiroga (Rakocevic, Vujanic, Radmanovic were ok too)
New Zealand: No idea (maybe Penney or Marks?)
USA: Tim Duncan
Lithuania: Stombergas or Jasikevicius (sp?)
Greece: Papadopulos (or Fotsis maybe)
Angola: No idea
Italy: Basile

My mvp so far is Gasol, Spain is still undefeated and Pau is having a great tournament. BTW, what the hell is Navarro doing??

Australia: Shane Heal. At least he doesnt let guys dunk on him inside.
China: Yao Ming. Yeah, gotta love Olympic one man teams.
Spain: Pau Gasol. Silver medal, easily Gold.
Puerto Rico: Arroyo. Knocked out in the next round but he's done well.
Argentina: Ginobili. Apparentely he's been lighting it up, haven't seen him tho
Serbia and Montenegro: Bodiroga, I can't believe they finished lower than us
New Zealand: Phil Jones has been putting up alot of points, and surprisingly Pero 'Super-Size' Cameron has been impressive lately
USA: Tim Duncan. Eh.
Lithuania: Someone with a name ending in us... I'd actually go for that big 7'2 guy, he's been dominant.
Greece: Papadopolous. Taking advantage of the fact that every other country is small, kinda
Angola: Some guy averaging 11ppg for them who was injured for the USA game
Italy: I'll go that big fella who shoots the three's, Calanda or Galanda or somethin

It's impossible...

BTW, coach assistent of China is Lithuanian...

Tue Aug 24, 2004 5:47 pm

I kno... Del Harris and him really made us a lot better. I read a report saying Yao asked Chinese Basketball to let players go play in the NBA after the loss to Italy... and they said they'd think about it. I guess Yao has a lot of power in a way!

Anything is possible man. As long as we play a good zone defence and force your players to jack up hard shots and miss and get our perometer guys scoring... it'll be all good. But lithuania has an easier task and taking yao out of the game...China is as good as dead unless our guards start scoring...

I haven't been able to watch a lot of olympic basketball over here, but have you?? Your list makes it seem like you haven't. Only mention of players who have been in the news or who play in the NBA. Like you just watched the rosters and looked for a familiar name. The teams you couldn't find a familiar name you put "No idea". Nice list of MVP's...

Thanks Rens... no I havent watched much Olympic ball cause I live in Australia... but I know that Boguts done well... I watch his games!

Yao's done well... I follow the NT.

Duncan- I saw him play Aus. and Lit. - he was clearly the best US guy

P.R: Arroyo... saw him play Aus and he played well when it counted

Spain: He is their leading scorer and rebounder I think

So thats how I got those MVPS...

It was a joke/article on ESPN.com which has Boozer moving from USA to Angola for more money!
