How To: Make Bump Maps/Green Texture (For Cyberfaces)

Postby Kevin on Fri Jul 17, 2015 5:13 pm

FOR PHOTOSHOP USERS:

This is how I personally do the bump maps or green textures.

1.) First step is to open Photoshop and load your texture.

Image

2.) Then, go to Filter >> Stylize >> Emboss and play with the settings but mostly, I go with these.

Image

3.) This will be the result.

Image

4.) After that, create a new layer and paint the color green all over it. (008b00) <-- code/hex that I always use

Image

    5.) Result is this.

Image

6.) Then, go to Layers and change the layer type from Normal to Overlay.

Image

    7.) Result:

Image

8.) Now go to the Channels Tab, copy the texture in the layer entitled "Green" and then paste it to your Alpha 1.

Image

9.) Now just save it as DXT 5 interpolated alpha, import it, and you're done.

Credits to R4zor for the Emboss stuff.

PS: I did this tutorial in 20 minutes so I may have missed some things or didn't explain some things the right way. Just comment down below your questions so I can answer it.

FOR GIMP USERS: (submitted by UNTAMEDBEAST)

This is how I do all of my greenmaps with GIMP

First open the face texture
Image

Then go to FILTERS<DISTORTS<EMBOSS
Image

[size=100]In Emboss set the AZIMUTH to 360 and the DEPTH to 2

Image
Image

After you Emboss the image go to COLORS<COLORIZE and set the HUE to 120 the Saturation to 100 and the LIGHTNESS to -60
Image
Image

Then right click the image in the layers box and go to ADD LAYER MASK then click add a GRAYSCALE COPY OF LAYER
Image
Image

After you add the Grayscale Layer right click the image in the layers box and go to show layer mask
Image

Now go to COLORS<BRIGHTNESS-CONTRAST and change the BRIGHTNESS to 55 and the CONTRAST to -15
Image
Image

After that right click the image in the layers box again then go to APPLY LAYER MASK
Image
Image

Then go to FILE<EXPORT AS and save you image ass a .dds file (if you don't have a dds plugin here is a link) https://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/
Image
Image

When you save the image save it as BC3/DXT5
Image

And that's it place the Greenmap texture into your cyberface and see how it looks  (Y) (Y)

For those without Photoshop, you can use SSBump Generator. Use it to create a normal map which you can then color green. You can also make green channels for uniforms and balls this way.
