Re: Bugbear's Next Car Game - Steam Early Access Sale $20

Played the latest update yesterday, still shaping up very well and it does feel like the cars handle a little better. However, it seems as though the CPU opponents can't reset their position. I guess that avoids AI cheese, but in demolition derby it resulted in one of them getting stuck behind a bunch of cars and me driving around for a long time trying to find them and take them out. I feel like we need some kind of map showing the position of active opponents...or maybe I haven't delved deep enough into the options?

In any event, great work going into the game. Really liked the new Sandpit track.

So the game is called Wreckfest now....pretty meh on the name change but I supposed Next Car Game is a bit too generic to sell.

The game has multiplayer now, doesn't seem to be a whole lot of people but even with 200+ ping its fun on a bun. Still waiting for the career stuff to start coming in, but we do have a tiered grading system for cars a la Forza and iirc a total of 6 cars now.

STOP STOP STOP

latest update ruins the game. No personality, barely any damage, reworked tracks which ended up just causing a massive graphic downgrade, more lag online, AI isn't fun, bugs and poor performance......

.....but 2 new cars and 1 new track?

no doubt they'll fix it, but huge screw up on their part....this was 7-8 months in the making from the last update, promises of physics this and PBR lighting.... just :lame:

ah, evidently they essentially rebuilt the entire game...damn. So consider this going back to the first update or something? I really hope this pans out.....

GO GO GO?

Recent updates have made some parts of this better. Damage is back, some kind of sense of speed is back (still helped by increasing FOV though), and online is behaving well. Cars still aren't as loose as they used to be on dirt, but a quick tap of the brake fixes that.

It is nice that after so long between updates we've gotten like 4 since it went live.

An update!

They've implemented the barebones aspects of single player. You have to spend money to replace parts that wear down (repair coming soon I guess), 2 new tracks, and.....

ermergerd this gaaaame.....

A few more tweaks to the handling, a new car, and "sexy grass" has made all the difference. I was feeling like the game was still very incomplete, until I tried Flatout 1 again. Realized I was seeing the same amount of variation, if not more, in cars and tracks in Wreckfest in comparison. Still a lot of WIP track-wise, but this game is definitely not lacking in content as badly as I thought it was.

    5 Demo Stadiums
3 Gravel/Sand locations, one with multiple routes in it and all with reverse variants
3 Tarmac locations, one that is pretty "professional" in nature and all with reverse variants
3 Stadium locations, one with an inner/outer oval and the others having figure 8s and ovals
2 Mixed locations, similar to rallycross

With the new Asian car that's 8 cars that can range from D class to A class, plus the lawnmower

And then the different gamemodes. Elimination races based on time or laps, team races or demos, respawning "deathmatch" demos, and then sprint cups that are 3 2-lap races on a track with points and varying grid positions.

Add modding, and you got a happy Jon. There is a hidden incomplete gamemode (that doesn't seem too incomplete, probably some incompatibility somewhere) Folk Race which is a cup variant with heats, semi-mains, and an A & B main event. Very easy to swap out "default" and "aggressive" profiles to make all the AI aggressive. And texture modding seems easy...except I still don't like texturing.

Adding to all of that the random market of parts and their durabilities and crews that gain EXP and can repair parts, that if you ignore actually affect car performance.....and nevermind online play.....

yeah, this game is pretty damn sweet as-is...only wish their updates came more often & quicker.

Here, gameplay of all courses

Latest update gave official modding support and plugins/tools for custom cars.

Unfortunately, there was a report that the company filed bankruptcy and on twitter they half-responded to it saying they're not done until the fat lady sings.....

With a track editor/plugins or official support for custom tracks, the community could definitely keep the life of the game going, but $40 is steep for a sandbox that needs community content.

But in the mean time, glad there are official tools and hopefully this game sees the same support that the original Flatout got.

Modding is a game-changer. People have already given the game the old damage back, done arcadey or sim AI sets, and now they're converting in Destruction Derby 2 tracks.

The also have Flatout-esk driver ejections on wrecks, more weathers, other new tracks, stationwagons, an F1 car, just a bunch of ridiculousness to have for a game with soft-body physics.

Another update just went through, new course that is similar to old Flatout courses, which is awesome, and a new figure 8. New damage mechanic now too, the Destruction Derby-style triangles are now "armor" health, which protects the chassis. So once the panels go away, or if you hit the underside of a car, that is how you actually affect overall health now. Skeptical at first, but it's been a fine change.

Mod-wise the Destruction Derby mod is pretty much complete track-wise. Simple Workshop subscription and enable in-game via the mod menu. The guy added little effects and changes to make it a bit more arcade-DD-like, but nothing outrageous. The old courses look and play real noice in this game. - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =688649575

And people are now putting out actual banger-style ovals. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =710019828 - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =709112865

Also, half-off for $20 for the Steam sale - http://store.steampowered.com/app/228380/

.....almost 2 years. wow

Well OK. They've finally added their career mode. 5 tiers of events ranging from multiple demos or races, to multi-heat races with quarter/semi/final races. Reach some points threshold and move on to the next tier.

Gameplay is the best it's been I think. Damage was improved to where I don't need a mod for it and the overall feeling of anything can happen was long missed. The tracks are finally being finalized too.

They added a bunch of cars, so there is a nice variety of compacts, mid & full sizes, and wagons now. All with customization. They just need new/better liveries now.

The biggest negative over the course of this game's development for me is the removal of part damage. The whole "Street Rod is an inspiration" for this game, I think, was an empty promise. I was hoping that having a backlog of parts to put into a car until you have to throw them out was going to be the main repair/replace part of the game, having good/faulty parts affect handling, or even just having to pay for a replacement car or something. A little on the arcade-side now with that, but it works really well.
