Vince Carter to the Knicks

Fri Aug 20, 2004 9:21 am

Theres rumors that keep popping on nba.com saying the knicks got there eye on carter and carter said he would play for the knicks....to me i think sarlary cap room can hold knicks back froming getting him but they maybe gonna trade ? what ya think i hope knicks get them cuz now it would be worth going to a knick game cuz before marbury came the knicks games were wack to me at least

Fri Aug 20, 2004 9:37 am

Why the hell they need him for. They already overstocked with guards

Fri Aug 20, 2004 9:39 am

It's isiah, he'll do anything.

Fri Aug 20, 2004 9:53 am

we're talking about isiah here. he says he's interested in any black player with athleticism. the nypost has speculated in what seems almost every black player with athleticism going to nyk in some dumb deal invovling moochie and whatever

Everyone in T.O. including myself wants VC gone, but the Knicks have nothing to give back. Isiah's already said he ain't givin up Marbury, so it won't happen. Allan Houston has a giant contract no one would take, Tim Thomas is overpaid and is not a star. The only way this trade would happen is if NY gave us JYD, Kurt Thomas, Hardaway/Anderson and Michael Sweetney, plus some serious cash, maybe 4 or 5 million. Toronto would probably include some other contracts like Lamond Murray or Alvin Williams, and maybe a second rounder. This trade would make sense, as NY gets their guy, Toronto gets cap relief and some valuable big men. Then each teams lineup would look like this:
Toronto:
C - Thomas
PF - Bosh
SF - Marshall
SG - Peterson
PG - Rose
Bench - Alston, Hardaway/Anderson, Araujo, JYD, Sweetney, Woods and Mason
With this lineup and a deeper bench, TO easily makes the playoffs.

NY looks like this:
C - N.Mohammed
PF -Baker/T.Thomas
SF-Carter
SG-Crawford
PG-Marbury
Bench - Houston (if he's healthy), A.Williams, Norris, Murray, Johnson, Anderson/Hardaway, Baker/Thomas, Ariza
NY would be overloaded with guards, but they would have a great offense, and are covered for when either Carter or Houston gets injured (you know at least one of them will).

this may be the only scenario that works for both teams, s NY has all the $ in the world, and Toronto gets better for the future.

Theres no way Vince will be aknick, and theres no way Crawford will be starting over houston

it was rumor they was gonna give thomas, sweetny, and furture first round and second

Fri Aug 20, 2004 11:19 am

The question is, who would the Knicks give up to take Carter? Never happening, boys.

Speak for yourself, I know many Raptors fans on many Raptor fan sites that will not agree at all

First you can't give the much cash in a trade, the most cash you can give in a trade is 3 million dollars, and cash in a trade doesn't give you cap space, just money.
What is Toronto supposed to do with that lineup, cap relief? Hope for the future? Kurt Thomas is signed till 2007/2008, so is JYD, and Anderson and Penny make some serious cash....and the only hope Mike Sweetney plays the same position a Bosh, therefore they'd both never be playing together as starters

The total in that trade would be (by year):

Anderson: $20,763,420 (Yr1), $22,711,982 (Yr2), $24,977,581 (Yr3)

Penny: $28,088,420 (Yr1), $30,561,982 (Yr2), $16.477,581 (Yr3)

If the Raptors had to match the first, they'd have to give something like Carter and Alvin, or Carter, Lammond and another player to be within 15%

To match the Penny trade, Carter, Alvin, Lammond, and another player making about 1 million.

Total for New York:

Carter and Alvin (Anderson): $18,434,688 | $20,143,157 | $21,901,626 (Alvin 6.8 mil P/O)

Carter, Alvin, Lammond, Milt Palacio (Penny): $24,209,688 | $25,393,157| $23,701,500 (Alvin 6.8 mil P/O)

That means the first trade we're getting more contract money than we're giving up, which is uselsss, and even if the Raptors were able to shed more which they wouldn't want to do because they don't want to lose players for nothing, the most they'd be saving is abour 3 million which would mean we're still over the cap.
In the last scenarion, three years later, the Raptors finally save some money, but then it's time to sign Bosh.

If you seriously think a starting lineup with KY at Center, Bosh at PF, Marshall at SF  (defensive liability), and Rose at PG again will make the playoffs easily, I don't know what basketball you're watching.
Also the Raptors have a deeper bench now right? Woods and Mason don't neccesarily constitute being deep, if you watced Miami, you'd know why Woods isn't a player the gives depth.
The startng lineup is already weak, and if Andreson was on the bench it would be horrible, Penny would help pretty well, and I'd like to see how JYD, Sweetney and Araujo split those big man bench minutes.....

Well all know this isn't happening unless another team stupidly get's involved because they want some New York scrubs. Yes I said scrubs......

Fri Aug 20, 2004 12:19 pm

I highly doubt this deal is happening. I don't believe NYK can give away draft picks because it still owes PHO one. Unless they have a draft pick from another team, which I don't believe is the case.

If I'm Toronto there are only 2 (and a half) players I would really want from NYK. Sweetney and Nazr. The half would be JC but it's only a half because I would only try to get him if I could dump Rose. I would hate to see another JC + Rose combo...Kurt Thomas has a trade kicker that make his contract very nasty. I'll stay away.

Fri Aug 20, 2004 12:55 pm

its not going to happen
carter= good player ( ok some injury problems) and is very marketable. Other than Marbury no one on Knicks are really attractable to sell tickets.
Without marbury in the deal, carter is not going to NY unless Isiah gives the raptors GM some weed to smoke and let him do the trade when he is high and trade houston for carter lol

Fri Aug 20, 2004 1:04 pm

Erm, I have no idea.

Fri Aug 20, 2004 1:12 pm

Well the Knicks suppose to get everybody in the NBA  So why not!!!

I have seen rip offs this off-season so I don't see why Isiah wouldn't be able to get VC without trading any of his starting players :P

Fri Aug 20, 2004 1:18 pm

i don't know, i hope he stays in ronto

Fri Aug 20, 2004 1:44 pm

As has been mentioned before, Thomas has been mouthing off saying he wants any player. Any player that has had rumours involving him, Thomas has said he would like to bring that player to NY.

Oh, what does Thomas think this is, NBA Live? He doesn't want to give up Marbury who's probably the best NY has atm. It'd be pretty obvious Toronto would want something valuable in return. VC brings fans, the Raptors make money. With whatever NY IS willing to send, the folks at Toronto would never accept since that wouldn't fill seats. Thomas just mouths off anything involving anyone.

Let him keep on dreaming that 3 scrubs for 1 star will work. Let him do that.

The best case for Toronto (if they do want VC out) would be to trade him to Seattle. (Unless Allen gets that huge extension, then it's a bad deal. They'd be stuck with an old SG for another few years earning almost the max, nah-ah, bad trade then. :scold: )

Fri Aug 20, 2004 2:21 pm

well ray allen is only about 27 28 he'll retire in like his 39 's or 40's, so that may not be bad, and over the years , start trading for talented young players.

LMFAO!!

Seriously, this tampering Isiah Thomas has been doing all summer really should be punished.

Oh and the Knicks have NOTHING the Raptors would want. Not Marbury, not either Thomas, not Houston, NOTHING. Carter is NOT going to the Knicks. NOT every player in the league wants to play in New York for the minimum.

Alright, now on to some quotes from this thread.

I guess 93 is your birth year. First, New York can't give us "serious cash". They can only add $3 million in any deal. Second, what valuabla big men? Kurt Thomas? Who is worse than Bosh and Araujo? And probably worse than Moiso (who gained 15 pounds by the way! Now he's not just dumb, he's dumb and packed!). Please stop speculating on trades because you suck at it.

Oh did I mention Isiah Thomas should stop tampering? He's a disgrace to the league.

Agree 100%, Knicks' fans will "kill him", VC's hearth is not big enough for NY's standards.

Bosh, Araujo, and Moiso are NOT better than KT. Bosh has infinitely more value, but at this point, KT's savvy play and experience makes him better than Bosh. Bosh has more value so does possibly Araujo and Moiso (due to KT's contract + trade kicker), but that's it. Both KT's in the division are better than all 3 Raptors.

Thomas already screwed up the knicks even more with jamal crawford coming for all those contracts about to extend.
Please Carter stay in Toronto, great player but WAY too injury prone.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 7:02 pm

I don't see the Raptors trading Carter anywhere in the near future, they are pretty adamant about keeping him.

Sat Aug 21, 2004 8:09 pm

A trade thats never gonna happen in a million years... trust me

Carter said he wants to play for the knicks.. if he starts saying things like that what gm wouldnt say that they are not then trying to work on a deal.

The only thing the Raps would except is Marbury and expiring contracts (which the knicks dont have to offer) and Thomas wouldnt even dare trade starbury.

Also as a knicks fan myself i really wouldnt the thought of having Houston AND Carter both on the injury list at the same time so my votes a hell no!
