Team USA goes down

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:17 am

what a terrible lose by our mens teams today. i can see loseing to some teams but we got owned by puerto rico. was not even close as we lost 92 to 73. they better turn this around and quick otherwise we will not even get a medal this year. of course not getting a medal might force people to make changes to the way we pick our team for the olympics and in return give us a better quality team from now on.

OMG,i can't believe that.

yeah Puerto Rico owned the USA team. whenever USA tried to climb back Arroyo or someone else would hit huge shots like the 3 pointer off the glass. My respects go out to Arroyo cause he played amazingly. I guess stockton did teach him a thing or too. I think he could potentially be a better player in the NBA.

It also seemed like there was a piece of glass or something covering the rim for the USa team because every shot kept rimming out and every shot for puerto rico would go in as if the rim was wider.

I still think the USA team will win it though.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:30 am

i hope so. i think in the future we need a wider variety of players though. we seriously lack real shooters.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:31 am

I hope this serves as a wake-up call.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:32 am

The US got owned, there is no way they will win anything like this

This is the wrong section for this post. USA Basketball talk goes in other basketball league's section.

As someone ( I forget who ) said, Team USA isn't a team. It's a bunch of guys put together...big named guys (well, they could've been bigger, but still)...they don't play like a team whereas other teams do do that.

Team USA needs more time to gel with eachother or something, it's just not gonna cut it that way.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:53 am

and Puerto Rico isn't supposed to be a contender. What happens when USa meets Germany or Argentinca, or China? :?

It seems that if USA wants to win the gold in 2008, they should bring the best of the best. not guys like okafor, guys like kobe, kg and tmac and shaq (but he's gonna be old in 2008)

edit. Forget the NBA players, just put the And 1 mixtape players on the court and you'll get the gold and a good show (Y)

Team USA will have a huge amount of turnovers given all they do is walk with the ball, cradle the ball. Bah, don't be silly.

NBA players > And 1 players.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 5:58 am

they need to bring a team. all of these guys are used to being the go to guy and now they are being asked to be role players? it dont make sense. i was one of the people earlier who said that we are playing teams. i think my quote was, other countries are useing teams in the olympics while we are useing 12 players.

geezzz  forgot to add the "j/k", sorry bout that lol

Germany didn't qualify for the Olympics and Team USA needs to make it to the 2nd round to possibly play against China or Argentina... which they probably won't

oops sorry forgot about that one too

They looked pitiful out there today, and couldn't even hit open shots. Gotta give props to Puerto Rico they played good, especially Arroyo. I think it's over for the USA team, they already got one wake up call in the pre-Olympic tour so I don't think this was a wake up call, just a sign of things to come.

On the bright side, I thought the Puerto Rico team had nice jerseys.

Lol, bright side for who? They won, having nice jersys isn't a bright side for us? :? :P

Mon Aug 16, 2004 11:57 am

I was saying like from my point of view, since I was going for the USA team and they got stomped, I didn't get to enjoy the game. But on the bright side I did like Puerto Rico's jerseys, if that made any sense.

i would rather have people who have more pride in thier country be on the mens basketball team. these guys probably wont get a medal but they wont care. thats what bugs me.

Even with Garnett, Kobe, T-Mac, 'team' USA would find it difficult.
The only player who could guarantee victory is Shaq, the most dominant player in the world - because no one on the international stage has his size.

Mon Aug 16, 2004 4:06 pm

^^^^although Garnett was the saviour of the 2000 team, especially vs Lithuania and T-Mac has played international ball. Kobe would be the best perimeter shooter but in the end CHEMISTRY is what wins

Wait till they face a Euro team. I think they'll easy account for Aus. Aus lost to Greece by playing shitty defence inside and outside and only Heal was a danger

Man, I really hope USA don't win the gold medal this year﹐ I'm not hatin' on the team or anything, just that I wanna see it as a wake up call for the real superstars of the NBA to actually join (and not just say they will join) the USA national team. It's crap how T-Mac, KG, Shaq, Kobe, Big Ben (yea, I know he pulled out for safety reasons, but hey, everyone else in the olympics went, so thats not a good excuse), Ray Allen and others great players don't play in the olympics. I really hope this team doesn't win any games at all, just so that it can wake up those 'superstar' players so that they do join the team in the next World Champs. I'd hate to see the olympic basketball competition become like the olympic soccer competition were every country sends their B or C teams.

Team USA aint gonna win a medal this year without key players like MVP Kevin Garnett, Kobe and Shaq.
