Re: Playoffs - Conference Semis vs Bulls [2-0]

I ordered 2k15 the other day, so I'll most likely be starting a new game.

Four seasons is the average length of my four dynasty/association games so far. I just feel like it's time to move on and start fresh with a new group of players.

Hopefully I can win another championship on the way out (Y)

Damn, that last game had a crazy ending. Nice way to come back though, finish them off. Rose hit a game-winner against me the other day as well, though it wasn't a long-ass contested three.

All I could do was laugh when Rose made that shot. I thought I'd done enough to win that game, but it's hard to predict something crazy like that happening.

2016 NBA Finals Preview

Image

1. Washington Wizards [62-20] vs 1. Oklahoma City Thunder [57-25]

It's the finals match-up that most neutral NBA fans wanted to see. The seemingly unstoppable defending champions Washington, against the team they defeated in six epic games to win the championship last season, the Oklahoma City Thunder. But the re-match angle isn't even the biggest storyline in this series. The fact that Kevin Durant will be facing his former team is a huge story in itself. Add to that Bradley Beal, Andrew Wiggins and Nerlens Noel - who were all key members of the Wizards' title-winning team - will be battling against them this time around.

Durant, a Washington D.C. native, was sensationally traded by Thunder GM Sam Presti on Christmas Day 2015 after he failed to agree upon an extension to stay in Oklahoma City. It was the biggest story of the season and will undoubtedly generate plenty of media discussion in the lead up to game one. At the time many people questioned whether or not the Wizards had given up too much to acquire a player who they could have signed as a free agent six months later. But a MVP award, scoring title and an NBA finals berth later and it seems as though the deal was well worth it. In fact it could be argued that both teams came out of the situation stronger.

Oklahoma City managed to add three highly talented young players to their team and are still contending for a championship. This is their fifth straight finals appearance and they will be hoping that they can pull off a repeat of 2013 when they defeated the Milwaukee Bucks to win their first title since relocating from Seattle. They have been perennial bridesmaids - losing to the Heat in 2012 and 2014, and also to the Wizards in 2015. It could be argued that this time around they are in the strongest position that they have been in to win the title, given the amazing depth of talent they have on their roster. Led by superstar Russell Westbrook, they are a super athletic team which thrives on smothering opponents on the defensive end.

Their front court combination of Serge Ibaka, Nerlens Noel, Larry Sanders, Robin Lopez and Emeka Okafor will be extremely hard to penetrate. John Wall may have to rely on his outside shooting because he will find it tough to get the type of baskets in the paint that he loves so much. Such big man depth should give the Thunder an advantage against DeMarcus Cousins. The dominant center doesn't have the best stamina and having those five guys wearing him down all game could nullify his impact in a big way.

One obvious marquee match-up is of course John Wall and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook (24ppg, 5rpg, 6apg) has led the Thunder in scoring in the playoffs so far, but Wall's form has been on another level. He is averaging an amazing 21 points and 15 assists per game in the post season. If Westbrook can somehow manage to limit how much Wall is involved in the Wizards' offense, it would go a long way to helping the Thunder win. Wall of course was named the Finals MVP last season after averaging 19 points and 12 assists. Whatever happens it will surely be a great spectacle to watch two of the best athletes in the world going head to head.

The other key match-up is between Kevin Durant and Andrew Wiggins, the master and the apprentice. Durant is in career best form at the moment and looks absolutely unguardable. Wiggins did manage to keep Durant to just 23 points per game in the finals last season. He will be looking for a similar effort this time around if he wants another ring. With Durant averaging 42 points per game over the 15 playoff games that Washington have played so far - including a playoff record 86 in game 5 against the Bulls - the task ahead of Wiggins seems impossible. One thing he does have in his favour though is his speed and athleticism. He could possibly exploit the fact that Durant won't want to get into foul trouble and aggressively attack the rim against him.

Despite all the big names, it could actually be the benches that decide this series. On paper it looks like Oklahoma City have a big advantage in this department with the likes of Reggie Jackson, Larry Sanders, Jeremy Lamb and Robin Lopez. They certainly pose a much bigger scoring threat than anything the Wizards have on their bench. Veterans like Kevin Martin, Nick Collison and Samuel Dalembert have been in the league long enough to know how to impact important games though. Hopefully for Washington their stars keep performing and they won't need any major contributions from their role players in this series.

It should be a pretty even series. Hopefully I don't get any foul trouble, or this could get ugly.

My body can't take this matchup. OKC look scary good. I honestly think this series will come down to Russell. If you lock him down, I don' t see the rest of the team putting up as many points as they could.

Not really. I just meant that I can't afford Durant, Cousins or Wall to sit out parts of games with foul trouble because my bench would get slaughtered against OKC's starters

Judging by the first game it should be a great series.

Westbrook is definitely the toughest guy to guard because if you get tight on him he just blows past you and gets to the basket. But he also has good range so you can't leave him wide open.

I have to make sure that Wiggins and Beal don't get going either. Both are capable of scoring 30+ and I can't afford to let them get hot.

Great match-up, after game #1 it should be exciting, 2 of the absolute best teams in the association.

It's getting a bit like my battles with Miami on my Live 10 games. The best team in each conference all season facing off in the finals every year.

Great fun (Y)
