The magic words, the seven-time all-star center from Chesapeake admits, could entice him — maybe, possibly — to “explore the option.” But only with a team certain to contend for the championship he hasn’t won.
“They’ve already said they don’t want me back,” says Mourning, who joined the Nets last year from the Miami Heat for four seasons at about $5.5 million per, guaranteed.

Wolves should sign him for LLE

A question that pops into my head every time Zo's comeback is mentioned is, "Is there a way for Zo to make his way onto the Heat's roster"?
Let's assume he can give you 25-30 minutes at PF, at 50% of the old Zo, that's still pretty good on the front line with Shaqazoid! Hmmm...

I thought the same thing when I read the article. It's far-fetched but would be quite a duo. Who do you leave open?

One part of me is happy to see Zo make another comeback, but damn, i hope he's 100%, not like last year.
Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:47 pm
some guys just don't know when to quit
Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:49 pm
I say that sometimes too but when he was unfairly taken out (kideny disorder) I can't blame the guy for trying to go back out there. He loved the game and then that happens and it must have been horrible.
Let the man play, he isn't hurting anything.

If he's healthy, Zo deserves a shot at leaving the game on his own terms. I'd also like to see him return to Miami and team with Shaq, perhaps starting at power forward and then moving over to centre when Shaq needs to rest. It might not be as lethal as it could have been four or five years ago, but it would strengthen the Heat's frontcourt a little.

I wonder how it'd work if he decides to come back and the Nets refuse to waive his contract.

LOL you leave both open because neither can shoot!

Zo does have a bit of range but he hasn't played for a while. Basically if he can take the physical pounding and dish it out like he used to it would be alright for Miami. I'd love to see this happen, but in reality it would be difficult, and if it did happen you have to consider that Shaq and Zo would play probably about 40 games together

Well, I didn't really mean shooting. More like dunking. Both players are pretty strong and in the the PF playing C east, it'd be a mistake doubling one of the two. I didn't mean shooting whise, more as an inside force wise.Zo does have a bit of range but he hasn't played for a while. Even though Zo hasn't played for awhile, I'm sure he'd demand the defensive attention giving Shaq a bit more room to work with. Riley & Van Gundy would have a field day with these two up-front.I'd love to see this happen, but in reality it would be difficult, and if it did happen you have to consider that Shaq and Zo would play probably about 40 games together

Why only 40 games? I don't get it.

I'll take him in LA if we have the roster space.........
Fri Aug 13, 2004 2:26 am
The roster space is probably there but I doubt LA has the money to do so.
Perhaps LA could figure out something to send Grant away, he's a mediocre player with a much too big contract.
Fri Aug 13, 2004 2:37 pm
Mind you, as Rens pointed out he's still under contract with the Nets. He would have to negotiate a buyout before he could sign elsewhere, though seeing as the Nets don't want him and don't mind losing players for nothing (or practically nothing) in return, it shouldn't be too difficult for him to escape New Jersey.

Because either of them could be injured at any one time. I doubt either of them would play 82 games... if they both go down for 20 games at different times in the season, then they won't have played much more than 40 together.
And I agree with you that both would demand defensive attention. I over-exaggerated the shooting thing... we know Shaq doesn't shoot jump shots

Teams would be packing in their D against these two...
What other veterans out there are available, or could be picked up cheap to beef up the Miami bench? Glen Rice, Kenny Anderson, Kendal Gill?

Man, imagine zo and shaq patrolling the lane, with eddie jones on the perimeter... good luck for anyone to drive on those guys.
Fri Aug 13, 2004 9:35 pm
Bryon Russell, Horace Grant & Dennis Rodman are still out there.
Oh, thanks for clearing up the 40 games comment.

Why you one holding his kindey while the other was too lazy to move. and in perimeter well a player not that a quick as he was.
This tandem is not scary.

its not like zo is going to wait out at the 3 point line. Just keep him along the edge of the key and if you double him he can probably hit that shot or just lay it up. I'd like to see zo come back to miami too..... just curious, whens the last time (if there was) a team had the 2 players that went 1 and 2 in the same draft years at the same time?
i would also like to watch as eddie jones forces kobe to drive from the perimiter and watch him get pounded by zo and shaq at the same time

aaaah, if only zo had been a former laker, the irony would be heavenly.

Unless there's been a team since, I believe the last time was Detroit in 1989 (Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre).

I wouldnt mind seeing zo come back.
i always enjoyed watching him, his intensity was great and his game in general i liked watching.

I think it would be a better highlight to see kobe jam on both of em, and if eddie can keep up, then all 3
im not trying to start something, it would just be cool to see.

I dont think he needs a special defensive treathment just as Shaq has, Alonzo never was a player who was dominant at the offensive end so I would rather leave him open then Shaq obviously and let him take all the 12 footers he wants, hes not bad from that range, he aint good either.
If Shaq and Zo would play under the old rules, which alowed the defender to just stay in the bucket and waiting for the offense to come to you, that would be a awesome defensive 1-2 punch, if Zo is healthy ofcourse. I would like to see him back, I always respected him from his basketball skills, to his offcourt personality.
I wouldnt mind having him for the Lakers as a backup center.

Hey, atleast we will see Kobe facialize Shaq....if Zo would play for the Heat the chance of that happening would be good
Im not trying to start anything, but If someone feels offended, please reply

I would not mind seeing zo come back but if they pay him to much money, I'd tend not to want him to come back
