Knicks reportedly choose Baker over Dampier

Mon Aug 09, 2004 8:20 pm

If true, it could end Dampier pursuit

The Article wrote:If the deal with Baker is done, the Knicks may be out of luck with Dampier. Repeated attempts to work out a sign-and-trade with the Warriors for Dampier have fallen short, with Golden State GM Chris Mullin having rejected two sign-and-trade offers that included Nazr Mohammed and Kurt Thomas.

Without the mid-level or a sign-and-trade, the Knicks have no way of adding Dampier. Dampier has also been talking to the Hawks and has reportedly been offered a six-year, $50 million dollar contract for them. However, he's been reluctant to join a team that is rebuilding.

Not such a bad move if - and that's a big if - Baker can return to the form he showed at the beginning of last season. Dampier would have been a better long term investment though. If this is true, I'm guessing Dampier will remain in Golden State or will be on his way to Memphis.

pls correct me if im wrong but this is what i know.

knicks would like to sign damp for mle if the sign and trade won't work. but they just forgot they used most of mid-level it on baker. so knicks just not pick baker over dampier but was stock with an early agreement on baker. (though if damp really want to play for knicks for signing the mid-level then knicks should make ala-boozer and screw the verbal deal they have with baker)

i knew it, i knew it, i knew it....its another player that was suppose to go to the knicks but it never happened... looks like the grizz will get him because even if the hawks get him they want swift from us so they would trade dampier to us in december.

I don't blame Mullin for rejecting offers that include KT and Nazr. KT has a nasty trade kicker that makes his contract turn from bad to ugly. They don't exactly need a center with DD and Foyle there. Uncle Cliffy, Biedrins, and Murph at the 4. No need for 2 other big men either.
