Episode #68 (February 26th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

It's that time of the week again. Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #68 of the NLSC Podcast, where we recap the 2014 NBA trade deadline, discuss its impact on this year's video games, talk about a new(ish) modding breakthrough and more.

  • The trade deadline has come and gone. NBA 2K14's rosters have been updated, but NBA Live 14's have not. We talk about the issues with NBA Live 14's roster updates and reflect on EA's good track record with NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10.
  • What are some of the features that we miss from previous NBA Live and NBA 2K titles? When do we think we'll see some of them again, if ever?
  • On a similar note, today's games are fully featured, but are they truly deep, well-rounded and varied experiences?
  • JaoSming talks a little about a new update for NBA 2K14 that actually modifies the game's animations.
  • We run down all of the deadline trades and commiserate our ill-fated predictions. Also, is being bought out the new "dealt at the deadline"?
  • Raymond Felton adds to the New York Knicks' embarrassment this season.
  • Bill Simmons was allowed to call last week's Boston Celtics/Los Angeles Lakers game. It was far more entertaining than the game itself.
  • We wrap up the episode with a couple of other news items from around the NBA.

Let us know what you thought of this week's show along with your take on any of the topics that we discussed. Topic suggestions and mailbag questions/comments are also welcome in this thread.

Episode #69 (March 5th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

We’re a little light on basketball video game news this week, but there’s plenty going on in the NBA to talk about. Join Arcane and myself for Episode #69 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • NBA Live 14 has received a post-trade deadline roster update, but it’s a few days out of date.
  • We’re collecting feedback for our NBA Live 15 Wishlist. Start posting your ideas and suggestions ASAP!
  • A few noteworthy players have been bought out and subsequently picked up by other teams. We give our thoughts on those late season signings.
  • We also take a quick glance at some recent winning and losing streaks, while expressing our support for former Australian Boomers head coach Brett Brown in his current gig with the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • LeBron James had a big night with 61 points, though Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins wasn’t as impressed as others were by the performance. Do we agree with the Human Highlight Film?
  • Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash may be done for the season. Should they even consider returning at this point?
  • New NBA commissioner Adam Silver had some interesting things to say at the 2014 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. We comment on some of his ideas.
  • We wrap up this week’s show with some talk about the games we’ve been playing lately, basketball or otherwise.

As always, we welcome your thoughts on this week’s show, as well as any of the topics we discussed. We also invite you to send in your mailbag submissions and topic suggestions here.

Episode #70 (March 12th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #70 of the NLSC Podcast! Despite being a few months past the release of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, and a few months out from the preview season of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, we find ourselves with a fair bit to talk about this week.

  • NBA Live 14 received a major roster update last week. A bulletin was also posted, addressing the lack of updates so far and providing us with the inside scoop on Synergy data.
  • How important is it that we compile the NBA Live 15 Wishlist? What impact can we expect to have?
  • We talk a little about our week in basketball gaming, consisting mostly of BIG Moments in NBA Live 14, The Park in NBA 2K14 on PS4 and JaoSming's Street Career mod for NBA 2K14 PC.
  • JaoSming takes us through some recent modding developments, including Vl@d's upcoming tool, an unexpected development for NBA Live 2004, and a couple of other projects.
  • Moving on to the NBA, we take a look at some teams that have been struggling, as well as some teams that have been on fire.
  • Phil Jackson has reportedly agreed to join the New York Knicks' front office. Can he make a difference?
  • Should fights be allowed in the NBA? Marcin Gortat thinks so.
  • Games can now actually be streamed without problems on the NBA Australia portal...well, it's worked once, at least. Last week's offering was Gerald Green's career night in the Phoenix Suns' win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
  • We wrap up the show with some talk of other stuff we've been playing, as well as non-basketball games that we're looking forward to.

Episode #71 (March 19th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming
Special Guest: Vl@d Zola Jr.

A couple of us are feeling a bit under the weather this week, but we were still eager to get together to talk basketball and basketball video games. Tune in to Episode #71 of the NLSC Podcast, featuring Arcane, JaoSming and myself, along with special guest Vl@d Zola Jr.

  • Vl@d and JaoSming take us through the latest developments for RED MC. Some awesome stuff is in the works!
  • EA Sports continues their face scanning for NBA Live 15, while also meeting with NBA coaches to gain more insight into their strategies to better hone the game's AI.
  • A quick glimpse at some dunks being motion captured for NBA 2K15 leads to a discussion on dunking in basketball video games.
  • The full roster of NBA Legends is now available in NBA Live 14 Ultimate Team. We talk a little about what we want to see in the future as far as Legends in NBA Live are concerned.
  • We can honestly say, JaoSming had the worst luck when it came to the random gift Locker Code that's currently available for NBA 2K14.
  • We're giving away some digital copies of NBA 2K14 PC. Listen to the show for full details on how to win the first Steam code, and get your entries in ASAP!
  • Phil Jackson is now officially president of basketball operations for the New York Knicks. Michael Jordan thinks he'll do a great job...do we?
  • Kyrie Irving is injured again and may be done for the season. Let's hope there's no NBA Live equivalent of the Madden curse.
  • We recap the last week in the NBA, including teams that are hot, teams that we jinxed, and teams whose losing streaks we're definitely not taking responsibility for.
  • The Miami Heat have hit a bit of a rough patch, though it made for an exciting finish against the Brooklyn Nets last week. On a side note, ESPN fails at trivia.
  • We touch briefly on March Madness. Our brackets will surely be busted.
  • Episode #71 closes with some talk about Sony's new virtual reality endeavour, Project Morpheus.

Episode #72 (March 26th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Episode #72 of the NLSC Podcast provides a perfect opportunity for one of us to fondly recollect the Chicago Bulls' 1996 season. No prizes for guessing who! Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself as we cover the latest basketball gaming news, talk about how we stay interested in basketball gaming at this time of year, and mention a couple of recent events in the NBA.

  • We've quietly launched a new design in the past week. A couple more additions and changes are coming, which are quickly rundown in some housekeeping notes.
  • EA Sports gave away a free legend in NBA Live 14 Ultimate Team. Which player did we get?
  • Once again, we reflect on NBA Live's comeback and look to the future.
  • Virtual Currency continues to be an issue in NBA 2K14 next gen, as rewards seemingly have been nerfed in MyGM. We wring our hands a little in frustration.
  • On a happier note, JaoSming received some excellent technical support for the MyNBA2K14 app.
  • We discuss some ideas for keeping basketball gaming fresh and interesting after a few months.
  • Thanks to everyone who entered our NBA 2K14 PC giveaway last week! A winner has been chosen, but more giveaways are coming shortly.
  • If you dislike sleeved jerseys as much as we do, there may be light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to LeBron James.
  • It's a quick NBA discussion this week as a couple of us are pressed for time. We mention the recent performance of a couple of players and some amusing stories from the past week.
  • We wrap up the show with a brief mention of some other games we're playing, along with some recent gaming news.

Episode #73 (April 2nd, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

With JaoSming hitting the books this week, Episode #73 of the NLSC Podcast is a two man show featuring Arcane and myself. Tune in for a discussion of legends in NBA Live, the latest news and results from around the NBA, and some other gaming topics.

  • We open the show by recounting some of our favourite April Fools' Day gags from around the web this year.
  • A new BIG Moment in NBA Live 14 goes old school with Magic Johnson. Could we see legends having a bigger presence in NBA Live 15?
  • Some news and notes from the latest installment of Coach's Corner are also discussed.
  • The NBA 2K13 servers have now been shut down. This sets us thinking: will next year's server shutdowns render NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 next gen unplayable?
  • We mention a couple of housekeeping matters, including details on some forthcoming features.
  • The Miami Heat are on top of the East for the first time this season, while the San Antonio Spurs set a team record with their current winning streak. Will we see a rematch in this year's NBA Finals?
  • Brooklyn has won fourteen straight at home and seem to be in good form at the right time. Can the Nets make some noise in the Playoffs?
  • We discuss an interesting comparison between Kwame Brown and Roy Hibbert.
  • Kyrie Irving may possibly return to action for the final few games of the season, which prompts another discussion about Aussies in the NBA.
  • The Philadelphia 76ers' losing streak is over at 26. Our condolences to the Detroit Pistons and their fans.
  • Who's making the eighth and final seed in both Conferences?
  • We wrap up the show with some talk about other video games.

Episode #74 (April 9th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

We've recorded Episode #74 of the NLSC Podcast and it's out now for your listening enjoyment (sorry, Leftos). Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself as we discuss our favourite basketball video games, ideas for future releases from EA and 2K, the race to the 2014 NBA Playoffs, and more...even wrasslin'!

  • We tip things off with a couple of housekeeping matters, specifically the forthcoming mobile design for the Forum and the future of the NLSC Top 10 Plays of the Week.
  • Once again, we remind everyone to add their feedback to the NBA Live 15 Wishlist ASAP. We also speculate on when we think we'll start seeing information and previews for NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15. Spoiler: Probably not next week.
  • 2K Sports partnered with the Make-a-Wish Foundation to do something pretty cool for a young man who loves NBA 2K.
  • JaoSming takes us through some exciting developments in modding...exciting enough to get him out of bed in the middle of the night, in fact.
  • The subject of highlight plays in basketball video games is brought up. How can they be implemented without being gamebreakers?
  • We also discuss the feasibility and likelihood of career games being carried over to the next year's release. Could it be done without cheapening the experience?
  • Kevin Durant has surpassed a scoring mark set by Michael Jordan, leading us to once again quickly revisit this year's MVP race.
  • Speaking of milestones, Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash moved up on the career leaderboards. We comment on their place in NBA history.
  • Joe Dumars is reportedly on his way out in Detroit, but is Isiah Thomas on the way in? Meanwhile, Mitch Kupchak looks to remain with the Lakers.
  • We make a few more predictions as the NBA regular season winds down, as well as weigh in on the Nets' season sweep of the defending champion Heat. Foul or not a foul by Plums?
  • You'll never guess what recent gaming announcement has Arcane excited! (A new Fallout game?)
  • Wrasslin' fans JaoSming and Andrew reflect on Wrestlemania 30, the Undertaker and other events from the world of the squared circle.

Episode #75 (April 16th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

If you're looking for some NBA and basketball video game discussion this Easter Weekend, tune in to Episode #75 of the NLSC Podcast! Arcane, JaoSming and I get together again this week to discuss the upcoming 2014 NBA Playoffs, speculate on the direction that NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 will take, and reminisce fondly about our exploits on the virtual hardwood.

  • We tip things off with some housekeeping notes, including the full launch of our mobile design and the impending return of the NLSC Top 10 Plays of the Week.
  • The official site of the Boston Celtics provided us with a very cool glimpse behind the scenes of the team's face scans for NBA Live 15. Looks like we could be seeing a huge jump in the game's aesthetics.
  • Another Coach's Corner has been posted, as usual giving us a few more tidbits on the further development of the NBA Live series.
  • What direction do we see NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 taking? We talk about our expectations for the immediate future of both series.
  • Basketball video game modding is getting more attention in the mainstream gaming media, as Polygon posted a piece on MGX's Space Jam mod.
  • JaoSming talks a little about his latest projects and recent modding developments. We also announce a new project by bigh0rt.
  • We reminisce about our earliest experiences with basketball video games, and some of the fond memories we have of playing them over the years.
  • Turning our attention to the NBA Playoffs, the sixteen participants have been set but the seeding isn't finalised. Nevertheless, let the predictions begin!
  • Should the format of the Playoffs be changed, as Adam Silver has hinted?
  • We make some early predictions for the later rounds of the Playoffs. Will the Heat threepeat?
  • The episode closes with some reflections on the 2013/2014 regular season.

What did you think of this week's show? What are some of your earliest and/or favourite basketball video gaming memories? Do you share our take on the Playoff format? Let us know what you think! Both Arcane and JaoSming have had to take a rain check on this week’s Podcast, which of course reduces the panel to yours truly. Hopefully, we’ll all be available to bring you a regular episode next week, but in the meantime I thought I’d invite the community to send in some mailbag questions, so that I can try my hand at a solo Q&A session.

Worst case scenario, I’ll hold onto the questions for all of us to answer in an upcoming episode. However, if there are enough questions, I’ll record a short episode and post it a little later on today. We also have a few more goodies to give away, so if I do end up recording a Q&A episode, I’ll probably have another giveaway to go along with it. Otherwise, listen out for that in a future episode.

With that said, if you’ve got some questions you’d like me to answer, topics you’d like me to give some quick thoughts on, or predictions you’d like me to embarrass myself with, let me have them!

Episode #76 (April 30th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

We're back! After sitting out last week, Arcane, JaoSming and I are back in the "booth" with Episode #76 of the NLSC Podcast. We've got a lot to talk about this week, from NBA Live 14 content and another NBA 2K14 patch to the 2014 NBA Playoffs and the Donald Sterling controversy.

  • We open the show with some talk about an upcoming feature and the return of the NLSC Top 10 Plays of the Week.
  • Speaking of the Top 10 Plays, sharing videos from the PlayStation 4 version of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 just got a whole lot easier.
  • NBA 2K14 next gen will be receiving a fifth official patch and a shoe update. No patch notes until release, though. Hmm...
  • JaoSming provides an update on all the work that's going into bigh0rt's NBA JAM 2K14 mod for NBA 2K14 PC.
  • NBA Live 14 Ultimate Team is receiving new content throughout the Playoffs. We also have an update on the NBA Live 14 rosters, and a reminder about our NBA Live 15 Wishlist.
  • We get to our feature discussion for basketball gaming this week: What does it mean to be dedicated to a series?
  • The 2014 NBA Playoffs are well underway, and a couple of teams have already gone home. We give our thoughts on all the first round series.
  • You may have heard a thing or two about Los Angeles Clippers' owner Donald Sterling during this past week. We have a couple of things to say about the matter as well.
  • A couple of the NBA's regular season award winners have been named. No complaints so far!
  • We wrap up this week's episode with a couple of questions in the return of the Mailbag segment.

Episode #77 (May 7th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

We may be at least a few weeks away from the NBA video game preview season, but we do actually have some news on this year's games to discuss in Episode #77 of the NLSC Podcast. Join Arcane, JaoSming, and myself as we talk NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, modding developments, and of course, the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

  • NBA Live 15 has been confirmed, but unfortunately, it's console only. We briefly mourn that fact, but pledge to campaign on behalf of the PC platform if the opportunity arises.
  • Similarly, NBA 2K15 is already available to pre-order, on the same platforms as last year. The price of the PC version leads us to speculate on a next gen port.
  • Kevin Durant has been confirmed as the cover player for NBA 2K15, the same day he was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player. With NBA Live 15's cover player still yet to be announced, we throw out a couple of suggestions.
  • Speaking of this year's games, we also talk about some of the predictions that JaoSming made in his most recent Dumb Mondays feature.
  • A second Steam key for NBA 2K14 PC is up for grabs. Get your entries in before next week's show!
  • In a quick modding round-up, JaoSming has some news on RED MC, and bigh0rt gets some more love for the NBA JAM 2K14 mod.
  • Moving on to this week's NBA discussion, we give our thoughts on the latest award winners to be announced.
  • We're coming off one of the most exciting first rounds in NBA Playoffs history. Will the second round be just as entertaining?
  • A couple of other recent stories are discussed, including a possible return to Toronto for Vince Carter, and the firing of Mark Jackson.
  • We wrap up the show with a couple of quick mailbag questions.

Episode #78 (May 14th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

It's that time of the week again! Tune in to Episode #78 of the NLSC Podcast featuring Arcane and myself, as we talk about the past week in NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 news, some recent modding updates, and the second round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

  • EA Sports are selecting the NBA Live 14 Gamer of the Year. Unfortunately, we're not in the running.
  • Speaking of contests, we've drawn a winner in our latest NBA 2K14 PC giveaway. More giveaways will be coming soon!
  • The fifth patch for NBA 2K14 on PS4/X1 should be dropping any day now. Still no release notes as yet.
  • bigh0rt continues to do some great work with NBA JAM 2K14 for NBA 2K14 PC. The newest addition? The Meme Team!
  • Vlad has provided a quick update on the next big release for RED MC. JaoSming should have more details for us when he's back on the show.
  • NBA Jam on Android received another update. Unfortunately, the rosters weren't touched this time around.
  • Servers are being shut down for a bunch of EA games. We discuss server shutdowns and what it could mean for games like NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14, which rely heavily on online components.
  • Moving on to the NBA Playoffs, we talk about the chances of the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers, who are facing 3-1 deficits to the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs respectively.
  • The Indiana Pacers were terrible in Game 5 of their series against the Washington Wizards. Will there be an upset after all?
  • Back in the West, the series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers continues to be exciting, but not without controversy.
  • We finish up this week's episode with a quick mention of some recent coaching changes.

Episode #79 (May 21st, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

The 2014 NBA Playoffs roll on, NBA 2K14 has received a new patch, and the latest Draft Lottery has inspired more talk of conspiracies. Join Arcane and I as we discuss all that and more in Episode #79 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • There isn't much in the way of NBA Live news at the moment, though voting for the NBA Live 14 Gamer of the Year has reached the second round. New challenges also continue to be added to Ultimate Team.
  • The fifth patch is out now for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K14. We have to admit, it's more substantial than we expected.
  • 11 new Euroleague Teams will be added in NBA 2K15. Do we think they'll get their own mode, and/or integration with the current game modes?
  • In some housekeeping notes, we remind everyone that we're looking for knowledgeable basketball gamers to help us expand our Wiki resources.
  • JaoSming's NBA Street mod for NBA 2K14 PC has been released, and we encourage you to check it out!
  • It's down to the final four as the 2014 NBA Playoffs have reached the Conference Finals. We talk about the first couple of games, and give our predictions for the rest of the series.
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers have won the Draft Lottery for the third time in four years. Are we buying into the conspiracy talk?
  • Kevin Love's days in Minnesota appear to be numbered. Will we be seeing a repeat of the "Dwightmare", and will we all be calling it "Lovesickness"?
  • The Charlotte Hornets are officially back, with their new logos and the original team's history and records. We have to say, it's been a lot better handled than the Melbourne Tigers' re-branding.

Could you guys talk about byronray14's 2k10 update mod.
viewtopic.php?f=125&t=94913&hilit=podcast

Although I have contributed to the mod he has put in a lot of hours updating teams, art, and creating cfs to update 2k10.
I think some people would be interested in knowing about this mod.

Episode #80 (May 28th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

JaoSming makes his return to the booth this week alongside Arcane and myself for Episode #80 of the NLSC Podcast. Join us as we talk about another community member joining the NBA 2K development team, some recent modding developments, the 2014 NBA Conference Finals, and more.

  • E3 2014 is right around the corner. No announcements as yet, but we expect to hear a few things about NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15.
  • bedwardsroy19 is the latest community member to get a job as a developer on the NBA 2K series. So...who's next?
  • Once again, we put out a call to any knowledgeable basketball video gamers to help out in expanding our Wiki resources.
  • We cover some recent modding news, including JaoSming's latest developments for NBA Street 2K14 and some efforts to bring NBA 2K10 up to date.
  • JaoSming has achieved a dream by buying the Boston Celtics...in NBA 2K14 next gen's MyGM mode. Was it worth all the VC?
  • Moving on to the real NBA, we agree that the Conference Finals have been a bit anticlimactic so far. We offer our predictions for the rest of the series.
  • We mention some other interesting NBA news and notes, including a couple of statistical milestones.
  • The show wraps up with JaoSming's impressions of Remote Play with the PlayStation Vita.

Episode #81 (June 4th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & Arcane

With the NBA Finals upon us and E3 right around the corner, we've certainly got a few things to talk about in Episode #81 of the NLSC Podcast. Join Arcane and I as we speculate on NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15, cover a couple of other news items from the past week, and make our predictions for the rematch between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

  • We open with a couple of housekeeping notes regarding future episodes of the Podcast, the Wiki, and a celebration of the 20th Anniversary of NBA Live.
  • A few more issues have arisen with the NBA Live 14 rosters, but a new update will apparently be coming through at some point. We've also been told that these issues should be ironed out for NBA Live 15.
  • Neither NBA Live 15 or NBA 2K15 have been officially announced for E3, but we expect there'll be some news coming out of the event. We speculate on what we might see.
  • We'll be getting a look at NBA 2K15 during Game 1 of the NBA Finals. "OMG Trailer" Part Two, perhaps?
  • We're holding our last NBA 2K14 Steam key giveaway. Get your entries in before next Wednesday!
  • Moving on to this week's NBA discussion, we recap and react to the end of the Conference Finals. What's next for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers?
  • Because we're so good at predictions, we make our picks for the rematch between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
  • The Los Angeles Clippers could soon be sold for $2 billion, but Donald Sterling is looking to sue the NBA. We take another look at the controversy and the "freedom of speech" arguments that are being made.
  • On that note, we discuss some comments by Mark Jackson that have recently come to light, which may have ultimately cost him his coaching job with the Golden State Warriors.
  • Looking ahead to the offseason for a moment, we consider some of the big moves that might happen. Yes, we make some more predictions!
  • We wrap up the show with some talk about a few other games that we're interested in at the moment.

Episode #82 (June 12th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

It's been an eventful week with the 2014 NBA Finals tipping off, the preview seasons for NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 getting underway, and of course, E3 2014. Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself as we chat about all the recent news and events in Episode #82 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • We react to the NBA Live 15 Open Letter from Executive Producer Sean O'Brien, as well as the "Most Valuable Players" TV spot for NBA 2K15.
  • The first screenshot of NBA Live 15 was released earlier this week, and it shows a huge improvement over NBA Live 14. We give our impressions, and talk about some of the community's reactions.
  • Since JaoSming is back on the show this week, we have another status report on IFF editing in RED MC.
  • We give our thoughts on the NBA Finals so far. We're all sticking with our original predictions.
  • As tiresome as the story has become, we once again weigh in on the latest controversy surrounding Donald Sterling and the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers.
  • Derek Fisher, Mark Price, Kevin Love, Patty Mills, and a couple of topics from the NBA Reddit round out this week's NBA discussion.
  • E3 didn't give us any juicy information about this year's NBA titles, but there are a few other games that we're interested in. We wrap up the show with a few thoughts on some noteworthy stories coming out of this year's event.

Episode #83 (June 17th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

The NBA Finals have concluded, bringing about an end to the 2014 season, however the offseason and NBA video game preview season are both just getting started. Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself as we discuss the Finals, NBA Live 15 news, and more in Episode #83 of the NLSC Podcast!

  • We recap and react to the latest NBA Live 15 news, as the Twitter Q&A with Sean O'Brien provided us with some interesting (and promising) tidbits.
  • Do we think we'll see any NBA Live 15 previews during the Draft? What about NBA 2K15?
  • As another exciting preview season looms, we reflect on JaoSming's latest Dumb Mondays article, which talked about the pessimism and cynicism that previews can often bring about.
  • JaoSming provides another quick update on RED MC and the modding community.
  • The 2014 NBA Finals are in the books, and the San Antonio Spurs have dethroned the Miami Heat to capture title number five. A couple of us were particularly happy to see that.
  • What's next for the Heat and Spurs? Will we see a rubber match? And where is Carmelo Anthony going to end up?
  • We wrap up the show by offering a few final thoughts on the 2014 season, and rate our enjoyment of it accordingly.

Episode #84 (June 25th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #84 of the NLSC Podcast, in which we discuss the latest NBA Live 15 news, a rumour that's making the rounds, RED MC news, the 2014 NBA Draft, and a few other topics we felt like chatting about this week.

  • We open this week's episode with the latest details on RED MC. The .iff editing functionality has some teething problems, but awesome stuff is on the way.
  • Before we started recording, some new screenshots of NBA Live 15 were released, once again spotlighting the graphical improvements in this year's game.
  • We'll be hearing more about NBA Live 15's gameplay come August, but in the meantime, we talk about a rumour that began circulating earlier in the day.
  • Arcane finally has the full version of NBA Live 14! As such, he provides some initial impressions of the complete game.
  • A reminder that if you want to get your hands on a free copy of NBA Live 14, be sure to enter our giveaway before July 1st!
  • Some NBA 2K15 news will be coming this Friday. We certainly hope that it will be substantial, and not an announcement of an announcement, nor more NBA 2K14 footage.
  • Will we ever see college basketball and football games from EA again? EA is definitely interested in developing them, should all legal barriers be cleared.
  • We give our thoughts on the Charlotte Hornets' new uniforms. Hooray for no sleeved alternates!
  • LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony have opted out of their contracts, while Tim Duncan will return for one more year. We react and speculate.
  • Trade talks that would have sent Kevin Love to Golden State have fallen apart. Where do we currently think that he, and other big names, will ultimately end up?
  • We make some final predictions before the 2014 NBA Draft, and JaoSming provides a fun piece of trivia to close the show on.

Episode #85 (July 3rd, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for another installment of the NLSC Podcast! In Episode #85, we discuss the lack of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, some false information that's making the rounds, and the beginning of the 2014 NBA free agent frenzy.

  • No NBA Live 15 or NBA 2K15 news this week, but we reflect on the letdown that was last week's NBA 2K15 hashtag campaign.
  • For all the retro gamers in the audience, a new update has been released for NBA Live 96 on Genesis. We're impressed with the amount of work that's gone into it.
  • JaoSming outlines his plans for a new series on his YouTube channel this Summer, featuring NBA 2K14 PC. He promises not to mislabel it for additional views.
  • Do we anticipate playing much of NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 during the offseason?
  • Speaking of NBA Live 14, the winners of our giveaway have been selected.
  • In light of recent comments by Peter Moore, we revisit the dreaded business models of "free to play" and "free to wait".
  • We give our reactions to the 2014 NBA Draft. Not surprisingly, one of us had a prediction that was way off.
  • The Chicago Bulls have made a strong pitch to Carmelo Anthony, but will he end up in the Windy City? We ponder that question, and discuss some deals that have already been agreed to.
  • While discussing Jason Kidd's jump from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks, a new euphemism is coined.
  • We wrap up the episode with an entertaining Tweet from Muggsy Bogues.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! :)

Episode #86 (July 14th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for another installment of the NLSC Podcast! In Episode #85, we discuss the lack of NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news, some false information that's making the rounds, and the beginning of the 2014 NBA free agent frenzy.

  • We still find ourselves in the calm before the storm as far as NBA Live 15 and NBA 2K15 news is concerned, but we do have a couple of tidbits to mention, including a giveaway, more player face scans, and a couple of rumours that have been making the rounds.
  • JaoSming will be debuting a new Tuesday feature, which should be fun for us all as we wait for the new games to come out...or indeed, news on them to come along.
  • In this week's modding discussion, we talk about the speedy updates to the Ultimate Base Roster for NBA 2K14 PC, R4zoR's outstanding cyberface tutorial, upcoming projects by JaoSming, and some RED MC notes.
  • We tip off the NBA discussion with the biggest story of the offseason: LeBron James' return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. What do we make of the situation, and how good will the Cavaliers be this season?
  • Can Chris Bosh now be The Man in Miami? Will Dwyane Wade stick around?
  • Carmelo Anthony has re-signed with the New York Knicks, leading JaoSming to make a bold prediction.
  • As we discuss the other player movement that's taken place so far, we question the criticism of bandwagoning, and wonder whether it's acceptable to follow players rather than teams.
  • Several noteworthy role players are still free agents, so yes, we go ahead and make some predictions.
  • We wrap up the show on another amusing Tweet, thanks to Skip Bayless.

Episode #87 (July 26th, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew, Arcane & JaoSming

Join Arcane, JaoSming and myself for Episode #87 of the NLSC Podcast! We're coming at you a little later than usual this week, but the delay has allowed us to cover a few additional news items.

  • We give our thoughts on the info that came out of FanSided's interview with NBA Live 15 Executive Producer Sean O'Brien.
  • The cover design of NBA 2K15 has been revealed, along with the curator of its soundtrack. Does that make us Happy?
  • JaoSming's "Beat Jao" challenges have received a great response so far. Not to be left out, The Friday Five gets a shameless plug.
  • We provide a quick round-up of some recent news and developments in the modding community, for both NBA Live and NBA 2K.
  • It's time once again for us to play fashion critics! Gold championship tabs on jersey collars: yea or nay?
  • The NBA offseason is grinding to a standstill with the big names off the market, but we find a few things to discuss, including the latest speculation surrounding Kevin Love.
  • We wrap up Episode #87 with another fun fact.

Episode #88 (July 31st, 2014)

Hosts: Andrew & JaoSming

It's a brand new dynamic duo this week, as JaoSming and I host Episode #88 of the NLSC Podcast! Tune in for all the latest NBA Live, NBA 2K, NBA and modding chatter.

  • EA Access memberships will give Xbox One gamers the opportunity to play an early trial of NBA Live 15. As PlayStation 4 users, do we feel left out?
  • Big NBA 2K15 news is apparently coming next week. Surely, not another announcement of an announcement?
  • NBA 2K15 will also be playable at Gamescom this year. We can only imagine that several people will break the "no video" rule, giving us a glimpse of the game in action.
  • We comment on the latest rumours of NBA 2K15 PC being a next gen port. Our fingers are still crossed as tightly as possible.
  • One of us scored big with the latest NBA 2K14 Random Locker Code; the other, not so much.
  • As this year's hype train prepares to pull out of the station, we discuss whether or not we're excited to be along for the ride.
  • Catching up on some community news, we talk about recent modding developments, as well as our weekly features.
  • LeBron James is going back to #23. Another famous #23 is OK with that, and so are we.
  • There's a lot of optimism with Derrick Rose at the moment...but weren't we saying that last year?
  • James Harden and Dwight Howard get our sarcastic nod for Teammates of the Year.
  • Proposed changes to the Draft Lottery, a new head of the NBPA, and Steve Nash round out our NBA discussion.
