McDyess to Detroit

Postby MVP on Tue Jul 13, 2004 1:21 pm

Wow, just heard McDyess has agreed to a deal with the Pistons. A 4 yr deal worth about $23 million. That adds some depth even if McDyess isn't even close to his old self.

Nice pickup by the Pistons, but it's a shame that his career has fizzled. It looked as though he was going to be one of the top power forwards in the league.

What happneed to McDyess? The name was always familiar, but I never really knew about him. Did he have the same fate Grant Hill did? Hall of Famer to be until a bad injury?

Not exactly. Grant Hill was at a much higher level when he sustained the injury that has been nagging him ever since, but it's a similar kind of situation. McDyess was shaping up to be a great power forward a la Shawn Kemp, but it doesn't look like he'll get a chance to return to that level.

Noooo! I hate it when that happens! It happens to all my favorite players. Out of curiousity, I'm also trying to look for some footage of the injuries that ruined the bright career of several players.

Thats a nice move for the champs.Dont count him out yet.Til he retires,he aint done yet.I think he capable of pullin out a 82 game season and averagin a good number of points. But he gonna be comin off the bench most likely unless somehow Detroit dont get Sheed back. And whats gonna happen to Darko now? Is he gonna get more time or he gonna be ridin the bench like he did this year?

darko=bench
ok maybe a couple more minutes this season :)
pistons are deep upfront which is hurting Darko's time to try shine.

Darko will have his time.
So, Pistons get McDyess at a reasonable price (23mill) and will get Sheed for 5,6yrs starting at 10m/yr. Given this crazy offseason i feel that both deals are bargains. Joe D kicks ass

Joe D know what the hell he doin and I dont think he would have to overspend anyways cuz they are the champs and it wont take much for people to come there

McDyess definitely adds more depth, as a replacement for Okur.

If he stays healthy and the rest of the team stays or they trade for some better talent,I can see them repeatin.Unless the team they play in the Finals is a TEAM too.

I think re-signing Rasheed Wallace will be a factor as to whether the Pistons repeat. He gives the Pistons front-line scoring....that is something they need.

I just found out...Rasheed has agreed to a deal with the Pistons. So, they kept what they needed.

Starting at 10 million and getting a 12.5% raise every year......

I also question how much time Darko will this year. I don't think anymore than 10. Both Big Ben and 'Sheed command at least 35 mpg, although Brown may cut that down after the AS break to conserve their energy. That leaves 26 minutes at both the PF and C spots...I think Dice will play around 20 mpg.

Stop worrying about Darko, he's being developed, whatever minutes he gets are sufficient. It isn't Darko's time to shine, yet.

they also signed Carlos Delfino who will back up SG and SF positions. He's kinda like Ginobili, which is good. Finally we get a SG.

Lindsey Hunter and Darvin Ham might be each offered 1yr deals, so this is their last trip with the Pistons.

I think the Pistons can afford to keep Darko as the "Human Victory Cigar" for at least another year. If McDyess goes down with injury again he might be able to prove himself.

Give Darko more time, he's like a high schooler but worse-he's from a different country. It's harder to come from overseas than skip college ranks, and even with that it takes time to develop.
