There are rumors that these teams have almost completed a deal. It was on ESPN radio earlier today:
Boston gets:
Wally Szczerbiak
Michael Olowokandi
Seattle Gets:
Paul Pierce
Minnesota Gets:
Ray Allen
As a wolves fan, I hope we do it. But I don't know if Ainge is that stupid enough to do it. Seattle gets the best end of the deal, in my opinon. Have you guys heard anything like this or would you be surprised if anything like this happened?
Thu Jul 01, 2004 6:26 pm
First I've heard of such a deal. Good deal for Seattle and Minnesota, but Boston could certainly do a lot better if they're adamant about trading Pierce.

espn boards or where?

I'm not doubting your source, I'm just saying I hadn't actually seen the rumour anywhere myself.
Thu Jul 01, 2004 6:48 pm
I'm confused. lol. First you said you heard it, now you dont? Sorry if I'm missing something, it's real late.

Minnesota is going to be strengthened with the Ray Allen-Garnett partnership. As for Boston, losing Paul Pierce to Olowokandi and Szczerbiak is a bad trade. Olowokandi isn't going to help much juding from his previous playoff performance. I'm doubtful about Wally's ability too.

Andrew didn't say he heard it before. in his first post he said that its the first, meaning first time, he's heard about it

Man- Minny gets the better of this deal! Allen and Garnett and Cassell and Spree and Madsen- nice lineup!
Fri Jul 02, 2004 12:39 am
If we get Ray Allen, thats an automatic championship for the Wolves.Even though we would still have to get a decent center.I would miss Wally World too.But that would be a crunk lineup that we would have so far
Johnson
KG
Spree
Allen
Sam
of the key is if Sam can stay healthy and if everybody can get a fair amount of shots.Everyone of them cept EJ can score 20 ppg easily.

this is a BS trade , never heard of such a thing , and I get the Celtic Post everyday
Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:09 am
lol
Good luck Doc!
That's not a good way to start rebuilding. You give away your go-to-guy, who is both a slasher and a shooter, not to mention an excellent defender, and you get nothing more than a pure shooter who does not defend and struggle to penetrate. Very bad deal!
Yes, Boston still has ricky Davis who is a very good SG, but Pierce is a complete player, why get rid of him? I really don't get it.
Kandy-man? oh please...
Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:18 am
KG + Cassell + Spree + Ray Ray ?
Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:24 am
no chance
this is what I said when questioning whether the Pistons would win the Lakersin the finals
Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:48 am
Wow, Danny Ainge is an idiot. Why would he send away his only All-Star to for two mediocre players, including a bust?
I have no idea why he's so eager to get rid of Paul Pierce.
Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:51 am
I haven't heard of this deal either and I scour rumors everyday...but such a deal would be terrible for Boston. I'm pretty sure they'd put Ainge's head on a stick outside of the Fleet Center. The Kandi Man doesn't exactly solve their big men problems with his history of underachieving, poor work ethic, and injuries. What's in this deal for the Sonics? They deal Allen (expiring), grab Pierce...but that doesn't help their perimeter defense at all (whichh needs a lot of help) or their big man problems. They're looking to deal Allen certainly, but I doubt for a more selfish, 1 on 1 type SG (not saying PP is a selfish player, just more so than Allen).
I checked the salaries and the trade doesn't work anyways. You have to include fillers, but it gets really tricky and after a fwe unsuccessful tries, I stopped (Minny has to give more to Boston, but there's nobody in the right price range, so you either have to give a lot of small salaries or one bigger salary and have Boston give more up).

this must be a joke, i mean cmon, not even the worst crackhead would think of trading Paul Pierce for Olowokandi and Szczerbiak...if the Celtics do so i wont expect them to make the playoffs next season.

Unless the person is Danny Ainge.
Remember now, he traded away Antoine Walker for Raef Lafrentz. I'm sure he could of gotten more than that.

Its just too good to be true,I havent heard nothin yet,i cant believe a radio show, they always come up wit rumors.Til I hear it on espn news or any other sports channels, thats when ill believe

well i once read on slamonline's links that Ainge fired Jim O'Brien because he was winning and that Jim O' Brien didnt want to lose... Ainge wanted to lose and go to the lottery...
Fri Jul 02, 2004 5:35 am
Lets not call him crazy yet.He must have some kind of plan

Whoa, hold on. Ainge traded Walker for LaFrentz, Welsch who played well last year, and Delonte West. That's not that bad if LaFrentz can return from his injury and produce like he did with Dallas.
One of the main reasons O'Brien resigned was a difference in philosophy. Ainge wants a team that runs up and down the court (fast break team), but Obie ball revolves around a sagging defense and half-court offense, with many 3 point shooters jacking up the 3. Ainge also traded away Williams and Battie which made O'Brien pretty upset, as they were leaders of the lockerroom and key defenders for the C's.

From what I've heardit aint going to happen. I heard the Wolves weren't going to trade Wally and that Olowakadi was going to practice with Kevin Mchale over the summer. I also really don't like the trade rather keep Wally I reckon he played pretty well off the bench after injury and who knows what kandi will do next season.

theres a little something, something.
They were talking on ESPN radio about this deal today. They seemed like this was just the outline of a possible trade that is being disscused but that chances of it happening I think are pretty slim. If Wally can get heathly, he can be an all-star caliber player (see 2-3 years ago). and if Boston loses Blount Kandi man might be the best option. He has talent and potential to be a better center in the league, which is pretty slim (center talent level). Ainge is stupid even to do something like this and Seattle is very interested in Paul Pierce but Boston is not going to accept Ray Allen in a deal for him. Sounds like they want a big man in return too (Kandi).

I just spotted that and was going to give you props for it. Good call, although I your trade still doesn't make much sense. Boston will certainly want more than an underachieving big man..and they don't need another swingman.
