Ron Artest for Bonzi Wells?

Wed Jun 23, 2004 2:47 am

June 22, 2004 -- GUESSING games are hereby cancelled on several channels:
Come July 1, Tracy McGrady will be the newest Rocket Launcher to look off Yao Ming down low more times than not.

The Clippers have separated themselves from the NBA pack as the most ardent suitor for Shaquille O'Neal's slighted services.

And all that's standing between Rudy Tomjanovich from being hired as Lakers head coach is an interview with Kobe Bryant.

These are a few of my favorite things gleaned from sources very much in the know.

Steve Francis was named in the exchange program prophecy. In less than two weeks when Francis' base year salary status all but evaporates, he'll officially join the Magic along with Cutino Mobley and throw-in Bostjan Nachbar. Juwan Howard and Tyronn Lue will join McGrady in Houston. McGrady earns $13.3 million in '04-05, while Howard pockets $5.4M and Lue $1.65M. Francis is on the books for $12.3M, Mobley $5.88M and Nachbar $1.49M.

From what I'm told, McGrady only had eyes for the Rockets from the git-go. Phoenix interjected itself into the conversation early because it quickly offered to swap Shawn Marion.

The Pacers got consideration late from the Magic (but not McGrady, not really, despite a long, tight relationship with Jermaine O'Neal) when they proposed a deal involving Jeff Foster, Jonathan Bender and Al Harrington, who asked to be traded in his final meeting with CEO Donnie Walsh (no promises were made) regardless of whether Ron Artest is kept or dealt.

Both players blew off the team's last meeting and were fined 5G apiece; Artest has been dangled to the Grizzlies for Muncie, Indiana's Bonzi Wells and a No. 1 pick Memphis doesn't have but is trying to obtain. When the Rockets-Magic arrangement is completed it'll be the most important relocation of an NBA scoring star that doesn't implicate the Birmingham Barons.
Should Shaq shift to the Staples Center's other NBA tenants, my Paper Clips would instantly supplant the L.A. Kings as the second best basketball team in the building.

Do we dare imagine!

Several seasons ago, owner Donald Sterling preferred remaining coach-less during the summer simply to save salary. Now he's prepared to do whatever it takes, it appears, to acquire Shaq as well as extend his substantial salary several seasons in order to keep him beyond the next two.

An entrenched LA monitor reveals how much the Clips ? $3.8M under the $43.8M cap ? want to do business. Elton Brand ($10.96M), Corey Maggette.

Whoever thought this would happen. There was a rumor yesterday saying that if Artest wasnt traded for one of the supertars thats available this summer, then he would most likely go to Memphis. I didnt think we could get him this cheap though. A 1st rounder and a Bonzi for Artest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I think that would be a good trade for Memphis and would definitely make them serious contenders now.GO GRIZZLIES :!: :!:

Artest for Wells is too little for Indiana, meaning I'm not willing to give up my Defensive player of the year for an ok swingman.

Nah, I doubt this will go through. Some writers are just tossing out anything that pops into their mind. So many trade rumours this off-seaon, it's getting confusing.

"Player A could be traded for Player B, nah...can't he's already being traded to that other team, remember?"

the grizzlies may not need artest. Shaq is a possibility, according to ESPN, they have the most to offer aside from the magic.

What does Orlando have?

but the grizzlies arent going to trade their entire team for shaq. they said we would end up trading posey, gasol, jwill and bonzi for shaq. i think it was one more player added to our side too, but not sure and we arent going to do that for shaq. we have alot of depth, but we would only have watson, battier, miller, swift, shaq, smith, wright, outlaw and thats about it.

as for us getting artest, thats more of a deal than shaq going to dallas. they have been talking about it since 2 days ago, and the grizzlies have been trying to get the 15ht pick from boston, so thats why they were probably trying to get it. artest also doesnt seem comfortable in indy no more because he didnt even show up for their meeting. he also probably doesnt like the comments bird made about more white players being in the league. it could be anything why artest wants to leave, but either wya it goes its a true deal that has been worked on for the past 2 days cuz thats when i saw it.

Indiana cant trade Artest unless they recieve Talent!

That's a good deal for Memphis, but I don't think Bird should be too keen on letting Artest go.

ON topic: Remember Artest was an All Star selection as well as DPOY. So I don' think they'd trade a player like Ron Ron for Bonzie, as good as Bonzi is. They'd have to get someone like Swift as well.

OFF topic: Hey Andrew, can't we just start a new thread where all trade rumours and signing rumours go in the one thread and then whenever a new news story has come in, you change the title like patchers do with new releases? Just a thought!

Not a bad idea, but there's quite a few rumours at the moment, with a couple of them getting a lot of replies. If we confined all the rumour talk to one thread, the discussion would be all over the place.

this trade would only make sense if Bonzi was on Portland and the two were swapped.......Portland seems to be the prefered destination for nut cases, i don't know why

Well looks like the people that said it wouldn't happen were kinda wrong. The Pacers we're the ones to offer the Grizzlies and David Aldridge said it last night on TV that we were in trade talks. The Grizzlies also drafted Burks who is a PG in the draft. Then they drafted Emmett who is a sg. We didn't draft all those guards for nothing. The new rumor consists of Bonzi Wells and Earl Watson for Ron Artest. It wouldn't work cap-wise so more would be added.
