1st/3rd quarter CTD after commercial (3 possible solutions)

Has anyone found a reliable solution to this issue? I let the commercials run and it still crashes.

No, there's no guaranteed fix unfortunately.

Thanks Andrew. I can't even finish my first game of the season in Association because it either crashes after the first quarter, halftime, or third quarter. Very frustrating and I wish I never bought this game (even though it was on sale).

It's sad how buggy most sports games are for the PC. I haven't touched a basketball game on the PC since the early NBA Live series (before Superstar mode) and sadly those 8 year old games have better user interfaces than NBA 2K12.

I've started playing NBA 2K12 again regularly, after finding some time and to test all of NST's features out, and I was met twice in 3 days with the 3rd quarter crash. My controller will be met with the wall hard any day now.

Any "workarounds" or "solutions" that have worked for you, even if "most of the times"?

Has everybody posted their cpu and OS specs and whether the release was retail or DD? There has to be something common.
What about a list of mods you guys are using, or if you have edited the config file, or are each using something that you should not be using that is against the forum rules?
Have you all excluded the NBA2K12 directory from being scanned by your antivirus, including the saves and cache folders?
Is it always in association, or does it crash in my player, nba today, and the legends mode?
Have you all upgraded your video card drivers or even tried downgrading them to previous versions?

If the crash is after the 3Q, it could have something to do with the "spark of the game" since that comes up in between the 3rd and 4th.

FYI, I skip everything mashing the buttons and it never crashes.

My Specs - Win7 x64, no mods, default config file, folders excluded from antivirus scanning, AMD HD Radeon 1gb 6850, 16gb DDR3 ram, AMD FX-6100.

3.6 Virtual Memory

NBA 2K12 requires virtual memory to run properly. If your virtual memory settings are not correct, you may experience stability problems.

To configure virtual memory:

On Windows XP

- From the start menu, open Settings/Control Panel.
- Double click the System icon.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click on the Performance/Settings button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click on the Virtual memory/Change button.
- Select the drive that NBA 2K12 is installed on.
- Select the "System managed size" radio button in the "Paging file size for selected drive".
- Click the Set button.
- Click OK multiple times to return to the desktop.

On Windows Vista

- From the start menu, open Settings/Control Panel.
- Select System and Maintenance.
- Select System.
- Select Advanced System Settings.
- Click on the Performance/Settings button.
- Select the Advanced tab

- Check "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives"

Just to let you know, I have not done this. I have a 1GB page file on the system drive and a system managed page file on another drive that does not have 2K12 on it.

I usually do that too, which is probably why it's only happened to me one or twice, in My Player.

I've had this happen since my installation was clean, no mods, no modified exes back then, and no matter what I've installed, it keeps happening occasionally.

My specs are Core 2 Duo E6750, 4 GB RAM, NVidia GTX 460, and I've tried all kinds of NVidia drivers, doesn't matter.

3.Pause the game with about 3 seconds left in the 1st/3rd quarter
4.Press the button in the top left of Cheat Engine
5.Find nba2k12 and press open
6.Change the value to 2
7.Skip all the halftime ads
8.Pause the game after the halftime ads are gone
9.Change the value to either 2(just finished 1st quarter) or 4(just finished 3rd quarter)
10.Repeat steps 3-9 every game

well I first observed when the crashing was happening, and it only happens when you are not on the bench after the first and 3rd quarter. So at first I was going to find a way to turn on manual substitutions, which I did find, but it causes the games sound to be messed up for some reason. So, then I just found a way to change the quarter. You just changed it to the end of the 2nd quarter everytime, and the crash won't occur because it is not at the end of the 1st/3rd, it's the end of the 2nd. Then you change it back to the original quarter so you can continue your game

And then... all box scores disappear, along with all relevant timeframed stats. YAY.

2K12 is full of little bugs like that that can piss the hell out of me.

While they should be able to save the box score data, the replays and time framed stats are saved in the cache. Due to the way xbox uses it's cache, I don't think they would be able to retain that data. They should be able to do that on the PC since there is no limit to save file data and the game doesn't delete the cache, it just overwrites it.

When I say "timeframed stats", I mean the "Split Stats" for example that are calculated based on box scores. Same goes with the "Last 10 games", "Last month", "Since All-Star Break" stat overlays in-game. They're all calculated based on box-scores.

The fact that box scores get erased when you save in-game is just another bug 2K never fixed.

Nope, but you bring up a good point about another bug, gametrack losing many of its entries by game's end.

Not only that but it loses it's entries after you start viewing them. I know back in the day the developers said that they only have 255 entries to save, so they removed many of the saved individual plays like rebounds, which could account for 80-100 of the replays.
