wow, Detroit won, i'm so overcome by joy that i have a tear in my eye. I got no sleep last night. Billups MVP just like i thought!!!!!!!!!!
this is my kinda recap of stuff
Shane kicks ass, he was about the only person to pick Detroit & give a logical explanation
Hahaha, we don't need Melo, Prince proved to be so so good defensively that all this Melo talk should cease
Everyone hater should apologise. Ppl be talking crap about how the Pistons defense isn't real, well Lakers only averaged 81.3ppg, put that in your pipe and smoke it. It takes so long for ppl (ESPN, SI) to realise that Pistons are the real deal. I also said they have offense but ppl hated on that too, well your wrong now
Everyone criticised Joe D for moves he made. He got Brown the NBA's best coach and he gets crticized???? Carlisle sucked, he was monotonous, and he proved that with the Pacers once again. Jackson is stupid, he allows Kobe to shoot the ball so much, gee lets ignore the guy in the middle won CANNOT be stopped
If Detroit wanna repeat they need Sheed back or another good man-2-man defender. If they lose him maybe they should look into Martin????
ooooh, and RIP is made for the playoffs, the dude shines. Maybe these dudes (Rip and Billups) will make the all-star team. Rip is what Glenn Robinson could have been but never became. After this, i wouldn't trade RIP for any SG in the league. Kobe doesn't pass, AI wouldnt exist with Billups let alone Brown, and T-Mac is not a winner
oh and sucked in Grant Hill....left the franchise to to achieve glory elsewhere, thankyou for helping glory come here, we owe you one
and finally, Dumars is perhaps the best GM in the league. Look, in 5 years he's made some incredible trades that got Ben Wallace, RIP, Rasheed, Williamson and he's signed dudes like Billups, Campbell (who btw came in very handy in the Finals) and drafted Prince (he OWNSSSS!!!!), Okur, Delfino, Milicic.....the only mistake he's ever made was to draft Cleaves, which he then traded for a draft pick. The future is gonna get even better. He built the right TEAM
I think Psycho Jackal said that Sheed is a role player, well i kinda agree, but he did have some great games, and he always shows up on D and he earned his $17 million.....the Pistons were incredible with him, he pushed them over, and he finally got his sweet revenge
TEAM BALL WINS BABY
is this the end of the Lakers Dynasty?????
DETROIT PISTONS 2004 NBA CHAMPIONS
Wed Jun 16, 2004 4:11 pm
I wouldn't class myself as a hater, but I was certainly a doubter. I made the wrong prediction, I'll admit it. The Pistons could very easily have swept this series if not the late charge and less than stellar overtime in Game 2, but I guess it doesn't matter. I'm not going to bandwagon, but it is nice to see a champion from the Eastern Conference.
Wed Jun 16, 2004 4:43 pm
Fine- I apologize for not giving credit to the Pistons when it was due...but the Lakers will be back next year and I will go for them even if they are a lottery team next season!
Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:18 pm
Matt, i'm gonna congratulate you for something right now.
About a year ago, your favourite player was (is?) Jerry Stackhouse of the Detroit Pistons. Then he is traded. And you have no reason to follow Detroit anymore.
I just gotta say, good on ya for keep following your team. You could've hopped on the Washington bandwagon with Stack. But you didn't. You stuck with your original team. I bet that small decision sure payed off hey.
Congrats Detroit. Defense wins championships.

I don't fancy being a player fan over a team fan, if I like a player and they leave the team I'll still support the player but I won't become a fan of his new team, I just don't fancy that.
Good job by the Pistons.

Yeah i stay true to the TEAM rather than the player. I liked Detroit as a kid because of Joe D and G Hill and even though Stackhouse was traded i wasn't gonna cry......look we got Hamilton back
anyways, Detroit kick-ass
I think I'll take Kobe off my #1 slot for SG's. He just didn't pass it and he forced.....not that i'm complaining about it
AI goes back in....T-Mac is very good but he's not a winner
Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:28 pm
As long as AI can have a big season next year, but I'm not too high on that happening, he's really slowing down, and I also feel no respect for Tmac, too much losing and whining.
Pierce is peeping his head up in there.
Wed Jun 16, 2004 5:53 pm
i forgot about Pierce, he's deffinately up there

I can certainly relate to that.
When Michael Jordan came back with the Wizards I was a pseudo-Wizards fan; I took an interest in their record and hoped that MJ would do well, since he's my favourite player. But I never stopped being a Bulls fan, nor did I buy any Wizards merchandise or plan to remain interested in them (interested beyond my fanaticism for basketball and the NBA, at least) once he left.
My interest was basically the player, not the team. If I can remain a fan through Mario Bennett and Kornel David starting at power forward, I have no trouble remaining a Bulls fan with their current roster.
Wed Jun 16, 2004 6:49 pm
Same for me...I've always been a knicks fan since im into basketball and always sticked with them no matter what the roster was.
I'd like to see more good moves in the years to come though
Wed Jun 16, 2004 6:51 pm
Im kind of that too.
I'm a diehard T-Wolves fan but when Chauncey left i'm still a fan of him. I don't like the Pistons that much (like them more since they got sheed) and I'm happy for Chauncey to win the title and the MVP.
Bobby Jackson same thing with Kings. He showed heart for the Gophers and the Timberwolves. Hasn't won a ring but I would love for him to get one in his career.
The only guy I don't like leaving us is Stephon mostly because he sold us out. He is a great player but I just don't like him.
Wed Jun 16, 2004 11:06 pm
Congratulations Matt, happy for you man!
And there's is one positive thing about the Pistons winning.... DARKO HAS A RING!!!

Unlike you all I'm a Shaq fan. Yes, a player fan.
I'll follow Shaq where he goes. There's nothing wrong with that.
Don't worry Sit, the Lakers will never be a lottery team as long as they have Shaq. Even the Hawks could make the playoffs with Shaq. As for Charlotte...hm..
I always thought that the next big SG would be Kobe. Scratch that.
I'm certainly not thinking AI, TMac, Pierce or others will be that good or get better. (especially that T Mac guy.)
Kobe still has a lot of years tho.
Whatever. Bye bye Kobe. I hope you get traded for someone. (I'm wishing for J-Kidd or someone who will PASS THE BALL TO SHAQ!!!)

I admit as a fan of Kobe Bryant, that he played well below his caliber. He was trying to get the hard shots over Tayshuan Prince and they didnt fall, and yet he refuzed to go to he rim untill game 5. I never like to blame the referee, but this has to be said: I have never seen worse NBA Finals officials since I watched this game for the first time, Kobe got fouled ALOT during his trips to the rim and the refs didnt call it, these things also happend for Detroit, Billups was fouled alot, also was Rasheed Wallace, ohwell...shit happens I guess.
Kobe played bad in these series, but people seem to always put the negative sights of players over the positive sight, Kobe has done alot for his team during this season, and has saved them from a loss countless times, more then Iverson, T-Mac and Paul Pierce did combined Imo. I still woudnt pick them over Kobe because Kobe is still a winner and he wants to win, the only player out of that list that wants to win is Allen Iverson Imo, T-Mac definetly not, and I didnt even notice Pierce, he has had such a quiet season.

*cough* KOBE THREAD *cough*...
Hey Matt, can you belive this shit, I turn on Sports Tonight hoping to catch a clip or two of the finals and what do they show? A quick caption of the score which Tim Webster repeats along with something about an upset, and Chauncey Billups winning MVP. No highlights or any kind of image. Pathetic ignorant cunts. Not even a highlight...

live and breathe spurs even the admiral injured season

before that i was split between the grizzlies because its my hometown, but they betrayed us so they can go screw a pineapple

I'm a LA fan first, a Shaq fan second. Wherever he goes, I'll support him. But if his team is playing against LA, I'll be for LA. Same goes for Kobe, I'll support him, but if he's against LA, I'll be rooting for LA.
Great great great series by the Pistons, I would say I give them credit, but I've given them credit all along.
Congrats Matt, they did an amazing job. The rings prove it.
Thu Jun 17, 2004 7:33 am
enjoy your cake, matt
coincidence that aretha franklin was singing the national anthem before the game? for those who don't know, she is a fairly large women...
with the pistons winning championship, i hope all this talk here about the eastern conference being inferior IS FINALLY PUT TO REST
Thu Jun 17, 2004 8:04 am
They still are compared to the West.
Talks about the East being weak(er then the west), won't stop until it's balanced out.
Detroit = Good.
Rest of the east isn't as good, yet.

Detroit = Good.
Rest of the east isn't as good, yet.
Indiana and New Jersey are still up there with Detroit.
Miami with additions will also be up there with those East teams, now the rest of the Eastern teams need to buck up.
