If you can get in windows, try running mgadiag and see if there are any file mismatches in the file scan portion of the resulting report.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Tue Dec 06, 2011 6:20 am

I've run it, but I don't see anything about a file scan?

Oddly, it lists the validation key as the actual key, not the fake one listed in the computer's properties.

That is an interesting issue. I would post my issue at sevenforums.com and see if they have answers there.

I don't see anything there that does. I've got a key, it just won't let me enter it. Or rather, when I do enter it, it has no effect on the computer.

It also rebooted again while sitting there doing nothing.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Just had to reboot my own computer, because every single program had stopped responding, and it deleted all my torrents from uTorrent, as well as changing my settings back to the defaults for uTorrent, VLC and PhotoShop, having Encore and Photoshop both insist that a DVD menu I'd put together was not, in fact, a photoshop file, hiding two of the files I was trying to put on the DVD in question, and preventing the second hour of both files from working. Encore treats them as being an hour long, as well as insisting on transcoding an m2v file, while in VLC the right length shows up but moving the play head to anywhere past the hour mark results in the file simply freezing.

What the fuck is going on?

Hard drive corruption/memory corruption? If it's the hard drive, those files may be unrecoverable. Check all your drives for errors, run the system file checker, if you have memory speed options in your motherboard bios, lower the speed and see if it makes anything more stable.

Try excluding the folders where those files are located in your anti virus program. It probably won't do anything, though.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

I've already deleted and recreated those files. They were an m2v and an ac3 created by ripping a DVD to remove commercial breaks, which was less hassle to just redo than to try and sort out. The menu was for game two of the '95 NBL grand final, and I already had menus for games one and three, so it was just a matter of changing some text and moving the team logos to opposite sides of the screen.

Biggest issue right now is preventing a future occurrence. uTorrent has deleted all my torrents before (from the list of torrents within uTorrent only; the files contained within the torrent file are still exactly where they were before), but never blanked my settings as well until today, and I really don't want to have to re-add things constantly. The weirdest thing is that my settings for Photoshop were completely reset, but my settings for Encore were fine, so not even all Adobe programs were behaving in the same way.

How do I check the drives for errors/run the system file checker?

Do the NLSC way. Format your hard drive.

If that doesn't work. Kill it. With fire.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:49 am

Sounds like you are logged on as a different user account or it had to roll back to an old one(previous settings that worked) which are usually saved in the registry. All those torrent files should still be on your drive somewhere even if you deleted them from the u torrent interface. I found some a year back, I think they were in a utorrent directory in the appdata folder off your user account folder.

Step into the now and buy a premium file sharing account and use jdownloader.

So...it's like torrents, but more expensive, less reliable, and it's harder to find whatever it is you're looking for?

Besides, it was all uploads anyway.

Is YouTube out of sync for anyone else? I'm watching videos I've watched before, and that were fine when I last watched them, but they're now completely out of sync for some reason.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:47 pm

Seems to be working fine for me.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:57 pm

You sure? They're starting in sync for me, but then getting way out of whack by the end (25-20 minutes, though it's noticeably off within 5). And if I just skip ahead to the end of the video, it's still in sync. It appears it's only unsyncing if I actually watch it all the way through.

Bizarre.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Definitely sure. I'm sure I'll watch a few more videos before the day is out though so I'll keep an eye out for it on any longer videos.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Rebooted, and it appears to have fixed the problem. Odd.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:01 pm

The universal fix, the almighty reboot. Temporary issue of some description with your browser nixed by the restart, perhaps.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

It's nothing more than the occasional Flash screw up. Nothing odd or bizarre about it.

Saw a few bands on the weekend. Foo Fighters and Tenacious D on Saturday and the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group on Sunday. Both were great gigs, particular the Foo Fighters one. They played for 2 and a half hours and it was an awesome mix of old and new songs. I'll be checking out Opeth on Thursday night, so it'll be a nice week for me :)

EDIT: Here's a couple of pics

So...anyone got any stories of a friend of yours dating the girl you like and were pursuing?

Not that it's happening at the moment but it wouldn't surprise me if it does...

Sounds like you do have a story to tell.

Cool. (Y) I'm seeing Omar tomorrow night. The Mars Volta are one of my favourite bands so i'm excited!

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

They're my frend's favourite band and I've always promised him I'll see them when they come to Brisbane. I've listened to them a few times and while I probably wouldn't listen to them at my leisure, I think they're really talented. I probably fit into the category of people who preferred At the Drive-In.

Re: Dear LiveJournal,

Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:13 pm

At The Drive In were definitely awesome for sure. Mars Volta generally blow my mind in terms of band creativity and imagination, but Relationship of Command by ATDI would have to be one of my favourite albums ever.

Deloused in the Comatorium > Relationship of Command > Frances The Mute > All the other TMV and ATDI albums.
