Let's reminisce about your favourite past NLSC members

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I remember that. He even included that in his list of patch features.

True, but we obviously have some good posters still lurking. If those guys talk about the stuff that interests them, I think that'll bring other good posters out of the woodwork and set an example for newer posters still learning the ropes.

As far as activity is concerned I think it's also worth noting that we've split General Talk into a few different sections over the years. If all the TV, movie and non-basketball video game discussion was taking place in one general off-topic section as it was several years back, General Talk would look a lot busier. That's not to say the other issues we've brought up aren't a factor because they obviously are, but I think it does accentuate the situation.

I think one of the things that can account for this lull in the forums is the fact NBA Live doesn't even exist anymore. Sure we have a 2k section, but I feel like this site is still predominately catered towards the NBA Live series. The majority of the patchers did most of their work on NBA Live and this site is essentially catering to games that are growing older and older. I agree with the point that was made earlier saying that a lot of the patches that were very important, almost to the point of necessity (especially with the pieces of shit EA churned out during the latter incarnations) and without that it kind of stagnates the community.

Overall Jae, I think we just were a part of this community at the right time. I think it was the perfect storm of Live being at the peak of its quality and features that were sorely lacking from the original games that were implemented by fan made content which fostered a more active community.

That's a fair point; a majority of our news posts are 2K related these days and those are our busiest sections right now, but we obviously haven't changed our domain name as yet and we've got a long history as an NBA Live site. When it comes to the general/off-topic sections though, a lot of people had already moved on to 2K or weren't really playing basketball video games anymore. People came for the games, which they still do, but they also stayed for the general sections. We're not seeing as much of that, though again I think it's accentuated slightly by the general sections being divided up. Combine all the active threads in General, Entertainment and Video Games Central into one section and that section would look a bit more active.

I don't have any money! Don't hurt me!

I lurk most of the time. Just haven't really seen a lot of topics where I'm motivated to post in. I guess time away has left me a little detached from this place for the most part and made a little hesitant to engage in discussions.

I'd say you're probably not alone there. Well, we'd certainly welcome people creating some new threads to stimulate discussion if there's something you're interested in talking about. It's what this section is for, after all. :)

i think a lot of people spent some time away and are either too busy to come back or simply hesitant on posting again. a few years ago, i came back from my hiatus and i felt like i didn't even know the place. this badger guy was annoying the shit out of everyone and there were only a handful of names i recognized.

For sure. I obviously haven't had an extended period of time away from the site so I guess it's less noticeable to me but I can definitely understand how that would be a factor. At the end of the day I think we have to soldier on, make the most of the situation and make good use of the facilities as it were, and enjoy ourselves.

Ay.
I forgot about this place for a few years, it's cool to come back and immediately see this. My life's a lot less hectic than it once was, but back in the day this was one hell of a place to cool down and find some stability. And it's funny to read old posts about my 12-year-old "romantic life".
Anyway, I'm relatively busy nowadays, so I don't really see posting with any regularity, but I just figured I'd say hey to all the dudes that I knew (thanks for the kind words Jae) and thank you guys, cuz this forum really did help me out a lot.

.....I lied. I'm not that busy. I'm gonna go smoke pot, jerk off and watch Bored to Death now.
