Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Coverage is pretty average. Out where I live I only get about 1 bar. Phone calls connect most of time. Internet is the dodgy thing. Can only really use when connected to wifi.

Good to know it's not just me. Like I said it's a bit better than it used to be, but can't compare to the Telstra and Optus networks.

After over 3 months and dozens of applications, I have my first job interview tomorrow.

Good stuff, best of luck.

Thanks guys, it went pretty well. Apparently if I get hired, I'd be the only trade qualified printer they've had, so that was a plus on my resume. It'd be a different experience. At my old place, I was pretty much the bottom of the food chain because I was the apprentice, but at the place I got interviewed, I'd be the main guy. Also, instead of printing on paper and cardboard, I'd be printing on fabric (they do a lot of basketball and high school seniors jerseys).
Speaking of basketball, the boss said he actually played for the Brisbane Bullets and played college ball in the States... so putting basketball in my interests on my resume turned out to be a good move as well

He asked me to come in tomorrow so I can see how everything is done.

Sounds very promising, fingers crossed.

Nice. I bet Ben knows the boss, since he's had some involvement with Bullets & their jerseys over the years. Best of luck.

So I didn't get the job. Turns out I was ousted by another applicant. It's a shame because I really could have done that effectively, but I guess it's back to the drawing board, as they say.

Stressful times...We're getting ready to get the keys to our new house next week, but because we broke our current lease, we have to find someone to move in to our current duplex as soon as possible to avoid having to pay both a mortgage and a rent at the same time...Good news is that I already got dozens of emails about it after posting an ad on Craigslist, so it looks like we should be able to find someone to take over before the end of the month.

Damn, sorry to hear that. I know how much it sucks having been in that position before, but hopefully something even better will come along soon.

Hopefully one of those applicants will be suitable and you can avoid getting into a situation where you have to pay both. Congrats again on the new house, I believe you might've mentioned it in the Good News thread before, not sure if I offered my congratulations at the time.

Thanks Andrew. I'm working 11 hours a day and I come home to only reply tons of emails about the house and making arrangements for people to come see it...Can't wait for this month to be over, I'm gonna have a heart attack at this point.

My copy of NBA 2k12 was supposed to arrive today, and didn't. Never had an Amazon order be anything other than early before. Here's hoping nothing's gone wrong and it's just late.
Thu Oct 20, 2011 10:46 am
As I've mentioned before, my copy of Ultimate Jordan took a long time to arrive. That was the first time I've had anything from Amazon arrive late, I too have usually received stuff earlier than projected or pretty much on time.

I just searched back through my email, and the last thing that shipped from them was estimated to take a month and a half, whereas this was estimated at three weeks. Looks like they've used more realistic estimates, thus things seeming to take longer.

I got a contract extension for 6 months, which means I have a job when I finish uni this semester in what I want to do with my life.

By next July, I should be a lawyer!

2k12 got here this evening. On the other hand, went to QI Live, which consisted of an hour-long Stephen Fry monologue, and questions being recycled from the first three seasons of the TV show, along with the worst panel in the history of panels (Colin Lane, Denise Scott, some other guy I've never heard of who wasn't remotely amusing). This went for 10 minutes, followed by an intermission, followed by another half-hour or so of actual QI, though still with recycled questions. In all, Stephen Fry's monologue was longer than both actual QI segments combined. Complete waste of $200.
Then I got home to find out that I'd recorded ESPN instead of One, and as such had missed the first half of the Wollongong-Gold Coast game, which was complete shit anyway, and not only did Sydney also somehow manage to win, leaving me at 0-2 for the round in the NBL tipping comp, they did so by 23 thus giving me a margin score of 28.
And now 2k12 is insisting on installing DirectX. I already have DirectX. Fuck off.
This has been a massive waste of a day.

As far as I know, pretty much all games go through this step, it's nothing to be concerned about. If you have the most recent version of DirectX, it's not going to overwrite anything. Just click "yes" when prompted to do it and you should be fine.
