[Game 26] Lakers 82 - Sixers 79



After losing to East's top seed in their last game, the Philadelphia 76ers dropped a close against West's #1 this time.

Allen Iverson missed a heave at the buzzer that could have sent the game to overtime as the Los Angeles Lakers escaped with an 82 - 79 win.

Kobe Bryant scored 27 points and grabbed 10 boards and got nice support from Pau Gasol (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Lamar Odom (14 points, 8 rebounds).

Thaddeus Young led Philly with 18 points and 9 rebounds and came up with big plays in the final quarter but wasn't enough to take down the Lakers. Iverson and Lou Williams added 15 points apiece.

Toney Douglas broke a 69-all deadlock at mid fourth quarter with a 3-pointer. Los Angeles came back to take the lead at 76 - 75 before Young scored 4 straight points to make it 79 - 76 for the Sixers with just over a minute left.

The Sixers though failed to score again and baskets by Gasol and Odom made it 82 - 79 with 18 seconds left. Philadelphia had a chance to force overtime but Iverson missed a 3-pointer.

The 76ers played without Elton Brand and Jrue Holiday, but both are expected to be back in their next game.

With the win, Los Angeles (20 - 6) secured the top seed in the West. Philadelphia on the other hand dropped their second straight game after winning 4 straight and fell to 14 -12 and could still fall out of the top 8 with the 9th seeded Toronto Raptors (13 - 13) threatening.

@Larvae He still hits an occasional buzzer beater here and there but yeah, he clearly has lost a step. He can't even dance with Kobe anymore. Love your T'Wolves association by the way.

@Gamebreaker Iverson is averaging the most attempts in my team but he also has the worst FG%. I think now that he's older, his being an undersized shooting guard is becoming more of a factor now that he doesn't have the quickness and explosiveness to rely on. Next season, I've been thinking of playing him exclusively at PG or even having him come off the bench, if I even decide to bring him back at all.

The Philadelphia 76ers continues to put their playoff hopes in jeopardy as they got blown out by the Phoenix Suns, 98 - 80.

The Sixers lost their third straight game, setting a cloud of doubt upon the team's playoff hopes. The loss dropped the 76ers to a 14 - 13 standing and although they are in sixth place, they are tailed closely by the Atlanta Hawks (13 - 13), Cleveland Cavaliers (13 - 13) and the ninth seed Toronto Raptors (13 - 15). A win would have secured a playoff spot for Philly.

The 76ers have 2 games left, at home against the Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat. They only need to win one to secure a playoff berth.

"We've got to win the next game, simple as that." said Allen Iverson.

The Phoenix Suns actually took off to a slow start, with Amare Stoudemire picking up 2 quick fouls and had to be substituted early in the first quarter and Phoenix trailed by 3 going to the second quarter. Amare's sub, Louis Amundson, picked up the slack pretty well as he scored 12 points in the first half as the Suns took a 6-point lead going into the halftime break.

The 76ers were able to keep the game close until Andre Iguodala got injured in the middle part of the 3rd quarter. Iggy was having a good game up until that point and he was leading the team in points and rebounds. After Iguodala left the game, Phoenix immediately pushed the lead up to double digits and extended it to 80 - 65 in the early part of the fourth. Iguodala was able to return with the game already far from reach.

Steve Nash led the Suns with 17 points and 13 assists. Grant Hill added 19 points. Amare contributed 12 points and 3 rebounds in limited minutes.

Iverson had 17 points and 10 assists for the Sixers. Iguodala scored in double digits for the first time in 7 games, finishing with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Thaddeus Young chipped in 17 points off the bench.

AI was actually upset at Sixers' big men for letting Louis freakin Amundson score 12 points.

AI was great. I played him at point and ended up with a pretty nice statline (17 pts (8/15 Fgs), 10 assists, 0 turnovers).

[Game 28] Sixers 70 - Bobcats 60



The Philadelphia 76ers finally secured a playoff berth after beating the Charlotte Bobcats, 70 - 60.

Allen Iverson scored 18 points, had 5 assists and 3 steals for the 76ers. Andre Iguodala added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The 76ers overcame a very slow start and took control of the game with strong defense in the third quarter. The Bobcats (11 - 18) immediately jumped off upon tipoff and built a 21 - 8 lead. Philadelphia settled in and staged a 14 - 0 run to take the lead at 22 - 21.

Philly then displayed tough defense in the third quarter, limiting Charlotte to only 10 points as the 76ers took a 10-point lead going to the fourth. The 76ers were able to extend the lead some more in the early part of the final quarter before the Bobcats were able to close to within 6, 60 - 54. The 76ers regained their bearings and pushed the lead back up to 10 again after back-to-back baskets.



Thaddeus Young had a rare off game, finishing with only 4 points. He did have 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Lou Williams, who received a DNP in the team's blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns, scored 11 points, going 3/4 from downtown.

"I wish Allen (Iverson) the best of luck in the playoffs. It's definitely great to see him trying to lead Philadelphia in the postseason again." Bobcats coach Larry Brown said of his former protege.

Raymond Felton led the Bobcats with 16 points and 7 assists and was the only Bobcats starter to score in double figures. Raja Bell scored 13 points off the bench.

The Philadelphia 76ers improved to 15 - 13, tied with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers at the 5th, 6th, and 7th spot. Philly finishes out the regular season against the Miami Heat.

The Philadelphia 76ers seemed primed for the playoffs as they thrashed the Miami Heat, 102 - 89.

Six 76ers scored in double-figures as Philadelphia concluded the regular season on a high note. Andre Iguodala has been playing well lately and he led the way for Philly to the tune of 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Marreese Speights contributed 17 points and 6 rebounds while Thaddeus Young added 16 points and 6 rebounds.

"We are happy with this win. Hopefully we can play this well in the playoffs." said Allen Iverson, who scored 16 points and had 4 rebounds and 3 assists.


Wade: "I think I need a little help here, Jermaine.."

With the win, the 76ers (16 - 13) took the 5th seed and will be facing the 4th-seed Orlando Magic in the 1st round.

Philly started out the game well, with Iguodala and Iverson combining for 18 of the Sixers' 25 first quarter points. The Miami Heat converted on 4 consecutive triples in the 2nd quarter to steal the lead, 42 - 40. The 76ers regained the lead shortly and continued to lead well into the 2nd half. The Heat though kept the game close and tied the game at 60-all midway in the third quarter. Philly would answer with a 9 - 1 run and took an 8-point lead going to the final quarter.


Even D-Wade can't chase this.

Jermaine O'Neal led all Heat scorers with 20 points. Dwyane Wade scored 18 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

Miami ends the regular season with a 15 -14 record, good for the 8th spot in the East. They will be facing top seed Detroit Pistons in the 1st round.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young has been named Sixth Man of the Year for the 2009-2010 season.

The third-year player averaged 12.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and shot 54% for the season. He also shot a career-high 39% from three. He played all 29 games off the bench.

"I had to adjust from being a starter the year before to becoming a sixth man, and I think it worked out pretty well." Young said.

"Thad is a very important piece in this team. He provides energy and offense off the bench. When the 2nd unit comes in, he becomes the focal point in our offense." said Sixers coach Eddie Jordan.

"He's just scratching the surface of his true potential. He will become a star in this league for many years to come." Allen Iverson added.

Another remarkable thing about Young was his durability. He played all 29 games and didn't miss a single game. Iverson, Elton Brand, Lou Williams and Andre Iguodala all missed games.

"I'm glad I was able to stay away from injuries. I credit that to my conditioning."

Philadelphia 76ers pointguard Jrue Holiday was named to the All-Rookie Second Team for the 2009-2010 season. Holiday averaged 8.4 points, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals.

It was an up and down season for the 20-year-old rookie. He immediately became the starting point guard for the Sixers from day one and he started the season strong, even named East Rookie of the Month for December. But injuries started to plague him and he missed 7 of the 29 games. He struggled in the second half of the season and saw his minutes decrease upon the arrival of another rookie guard Toney Douglas from the New York Knicks.

"Jrue is indeed still very raw but he's got a lot of potential. He needs to improve his decision-making, shot selection, among others." said Sixers coach Eddie Jordan.
