The Philadelphia 76ers hired Jim O'Brien as coach Tuesday, The Associated Press has learned.
The former Boston Celtics coach replaces Chris Ford, who was promoted from assistant on an interim basis after Randy Ayers was fired on Feb. 10. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the hiring will be announced at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
O'Brien stepped down as coach of the Celtics on Jan. 27 after clashing with Danny Ainge, the team's executive director of basketball operations. O'Brien was 139-119 with the Celtics and led them to the Eastern Conference finals and semifinals the last two seasons.

Jim O'Brien did a great job in Boston I think considering Danny Anige wanted them to go to the lottery to rebuild but he manage to keep them in it before he resigned. I think he will do a good job in philly. AI might give him some issues though but if you can handle Walker I think you can handle AI at least some what.

Obie is a good coach, don't forget that before he got to boston they could barely thread the 400 mark, once he was in there for his first full season he had them 6th seed in the playoffs.

Given his stance on the Celtics firing up three pointers last year, perhaps he won't clash with AI as much as we'd expect.
