The Unofficial 2003-04 NBA Awards

Mon Mar 29, 2004 5:43 pm

AWARDS 2003-04

I have decided to try and do this properly...I introduce my new thread: The unofficial 2003-04 NBA Awards (I can't use the name: 'NLSC NBA Awards' because I'm not sure if its copyright or if i can use it- am i stupid or what!)

Anyway- this what I'm trying to do:

My aim is to get everyone to voice their opinions and to find out which players, this forum honestly; as a group, thinks should win the awards for the 2003-04 season. Then when the awards are announced by the league, we will be able to see how close or how we think compared to the panelists who actually vote for this stuff...

So how will I carry this out? From today (Monday, 29)- for a week, posters will be able to put down their own top 5 candidates for the different awards. Then next Monday- I will be able to make a shortlist of the 5 most mentioned candidates for each award...from the responses of everyone!

Then we will have a voting period and the final results can be posted and we will have an unofficial list of the NBA award winners for the 2003-04 season! :)

What do y'all think?

RULES

No spamming
I also would prefer your honest opinions on the different players you think should win the award!

The Awards:

Most Valuable Player
Defensive Player of the Year
Most Improved Player
Sixth Man
Rookie of the Year
Coach of the Year

Also:
Who do you think will win it all? (And a realistic contender for the crown please!

There's no problem with calling it that. It's a thread for NLSC forum members to post their opinions about the annual NBA awards. I guess unofficial is a good term as well, since our votes don't count towards the actual selection of this year's award winners in the NBA.

Forgot my pick for this year's champions. Even though I'd like the Timberwolves to win (I'd actually prefer Chicago to be on top of the league, but that's obviously not happening this year), I'll have to pick the Lakers. Given my luck with predictions, I should have just prevented a Laker championship.

I've seen those picks somewhere before. As they say, great minds think alike. (Y)

Who do you think will win it all? LA Lakers

Wed Mar 31, 2004 2:42 am

Hey; my picks are below, and I think you'll find all is order.
So without further adoo...

Most Valuable Player: Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal. Both were in the running last year, but I'd say KG over J.O, becuase Kevin will finally get his respect, though J.O...next year??

Defensive Player of the Year: Ben Wallace, Ron Artest. Both are good picks, Big Ben for a 3- peat at his title, or a great defensive player and mind in Artest. Both bring it every night and deserve it.

Most Improved Player:
Michael Redd, Zach Randolph. These are great picks becuase Redd has improved to a season where he was an All Star, and Zach is now starting, and was anyway with Sheed, and his numbers show he's filling the whole nicley.

Sixth Man: Rafer Alston, Antwan Jamison. You new with the MAvs, either Walker or Jamison would be 6th man, and Jamison has still put up goodnumbers, event hough he ain't starting. Rafer is performing really well in that he has come from the NBDL and shown in clutch situations that he can win games, even if he isn't as good as some other PG's.

Rookie of the Year: Carmelo Anthony, Kirk Hinrich. In a team with so many yong players, the Bulls have been lead by a yuong rookie ahead of is age. Hinrich has held the Bulls together, some days peiceing together a win. He has part of the tea resting on him, as he continues to perfrom. Melo, as a pick, will recieve this because he has helped carry a team in the WEST, to a playoff contender. Everyone is sayin that James is the new Jordan, what about Melo??

Coach of the Year: Hubie Brown, Rick Carlisle. Hubie has done an amazing job with Memphis this year in that, at the satrt, no one had picked them to be a playoff contendee, and they've all played as a team, and when that happens, you will win even the toughest gaes. Coach Carlisle has for the past 2 years, been on top of his Pacers, this year, more so. O'Neal has helped Carlisle with the team that, is certifed to win, with the best record in the East, it's a top and strong choice for the big crown.

And to win it all, I'd say between Indiana Pacers in the East and in the West, Kings look hot. Both have the best record, and have severl times shown that they can win hard games easily, aginast some other former contenders. Both have great cases, but are evenily matched.

My 4 cents as always...
Macca
