Best Rookie of the Year in the Last Ten Years!!!

Sat Mar 27, 2004 4:33 pm

Which Rookie of the Year had the best rookie season in the last ten years? Could it be AI and his scoring, Air Canada and his exciting plays, Tim Duncan and his overall play, or this years probably Rookie of the Years King James, and Melo?

Now after you have answered the first question, which one transformed into the best player in their following years?

Sat Mar 27, 2004 4:38 pm

i was gonna say shaq ... but that was 11 years ago

but i'll have to say Tim Duncan for answer to question #1 and Kobe for #2

Unless question #2 refers to any player who improved the most after their rookie season, Kobe doesn't qualify - he wasn't ROY in 1997.

I'm tempted to say LeBron after the year he's had so far, but I'll go with Tim Duncan for the first question. For the second question, I'd have to say Jason Kidd. Though he played well in his rookie campaign, he's become a much better player since - a perennial All-Star and capable leader.

Shaq
Duncan
Brand
Grant Hill
Francis
Carter
AI
Kidd
Lebron or Melo

Duncan & Kobe

Kobe doesn't qualify - he wasn't ROY in 1997.

I gotta say AI has had the best rookie season, he won ROY and was #1 draft pick (I think). Backup choice: TD :)

For question 2, probably J-Kidd. Like Andrew said, his rookie year was alright with the Mavs, but since then, he has been the leader of the team whether at the Nets, Mavs or Suns. Every game he plays it like it's his last. He is human and he will have a bad patch at times but he has a natural ability like Magic did, he sees the floor so well!!

as i understand the question.
question 1 definitely DUNCAN (won ROY award)
and queston 2 will be BRYANT (a player that
transformed into the best player in their following years

#1 Duncan
#2 GHill - the dude was a triple double machine in his second year. Slam Mag even dubbed him "Better than MJ?"

The second question is related to the first, which refers to the Rookie of the Year. I assume VCFAN was therefore also referring to a former ROY in the second question as well.

1. damon stoudamire, id say tim duncan, but there have been other big men with comparable rookie years -- dream, robinson, etc., but stoudamire averaged 19 points and mid 9 assists per game. neither magic, stockton, or isiah averaged 9 assists in their first season. the only players i can remember to have done this are mark jackson and oscar robertson. i think stoudamires rookie season is a rarer occurence than duncans or lebrons.

2. im tempted to say jason kidd because his numbers improved the most drastically from his rookie season, but it realistically probably goes to duncan since he's won 2 championships and 2 mvps. jason kidd and iverson would probably tie it for second.

on a sidentoe, the growth of the skeleton generally continues until about age 18 for girls and about 21 for boys......... of course this is a generalization, but maybe lebrons still growing....... a scary thought
