Kidd ties Bird for Career Triple Doubles

Jason Kidd got his 59th career triple double against Chicago, tieing Larry Bird for 4th place all time.

No 1. Oscar Robertson - 181
No 2. Magic - 138
No 3. Kareem - 78
No 4. Bird/Kidd - 59

no way.. he's like 30 now..plus a player gets like 6-7 triple double in a season at most...so i doubt he'll even reach Kareem's record..not to mention Big O's whopping 181 triple doubles

Still, Kidd's place on the all-time leaders for triple doubles is impressive. Though there's no denying the Big O's skills, he was a 6'5" guard in an era when 6'5" was a good height for a forward. He combined his impressive skills with a natural advantage.

On the other hand, Kidd is a 6'4" guard in a league where the average height is 6'7", and there is a greater number of players who are much bigger than he is. While height and weight aren't the only factors in determining how well a player rebounds the ball, they are a natural advantage. For Kidd to have 59 triple doubles after only 9 years in the league when it should more difficult for him to hit double figures in rebounds in a single game shows just how good a player he really is.

Having said that, Oscar Robertson's accomplishments are by no means unimpressive. It's just that there always seems to be an excuse regarding the state of the NBA when it comes to today's players recording impressive statistical accomplishments. Often the players of yesteryear don't get enough credit, but I think that holds true for the players in recent times too.

so i doubt he'll even reach Kareem's record..

Yea, cause right now he's averaging 5.9 per year, and this year isn't over, so lets say about 6 per year. The thing is that will he be able to play at this level for another 5-6 year.

i'm not so sure he'll be passing up kareem. these past few years, kidd has worn himself out carrying the team during the regular season. and he's no spring chicken anymore.

i think he knows this and skiles jr knows this. seeing how their division lead is safe, kidd won't be getting a lot of minutes the rest of the season. and i think these next coming years, whatever team he plays for will try to monitor his minutes so he will be fresh for the playoffs.

i wonder why NJ hasn't gotten kidd a legit backup PG. former net anthony johnson seems to be doing a decent job for indy

magic would have surpassed robertson had his career not ended somewhat early. grant hill would probably me close but a bit below kidd if not for the injuries. jason kidd is basically a mini-magic in every possible way physically and statistically speaking.

Later on in his career magic became a better shooter
But jason kidd is the closest we have to a magic replica... although lebron one day might be closer. Kidd makes his teamates better.

magic would have probably shot a lower percentage if he werent 6'9 and hadnt created havoc on defensive matchups his floor sight was unbelievable though so im not sure if im right. i do know he'd still got a ton of assists no matter how short he couldve been. i wouldve liked to see how many rebounds barkley could've amassed if he were 7 but then again, generally, the shorter you are the better the hand eye so again i have no idea if chuck would've been any better i would presume so, but you never know.

if G Hill wasn't injured all these years i think he'd surpass Kidd. I remember Hill had something like 12 Triple Doubles in one season

yup. grant hill was sick. if i remember correctly, in his second or third year, he averaged 20-10-7.

his rebounds were a tad under 10, 9.6 i think, but still, that's awesome
