PC Shuts Down

Thu Oct 07, 2010 11:25 am

My pc shuts down after the game is running for a few min. No other game does this.

what are your computer specs?

Re: PC Shuts Down

Thu Oct 07, 2010 11:57 am

i used to get bsods in 2k10 quite a lot, drove me nuts till a guy on a forum told me to up my cpu voltage, which was odd since i played crysis and countless other games wo any issues. but for whatever reason 2k10 managed to make my cpu fail when more intensive games and benchmarks gave no indication of any problem.

assuming your specs are not just too low to run the game at all or you got a full out hardware failure going on you might look into your voltages.

tired monitoring your PC temps while playing the game?

Are you overclocking at all?

It is most likely a safety measure when the temperature of hardware gets too high. If it only happens when you are playing games, it might be that your videocard is getting too hot.

Install this program to see your system temperatures. Leave it running and play for just a couple minutes, then ALT+TAB out of the game and check all the temperatures.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

My Rig:

Win 7 - 64 Bit
Intel Q9550 Chip
ATI 5770
4 GB RAM (Gskill)
3 SATA hard drives
blue ray drive
ASUS P5Q Intel P45 Socket 775 Motherboard
Power Supply: one month old 80 Plus Gold Certified (I can't remember the wattage)

After further screwing around, I think it has something to do with either 1) My usb ports, or 2) my power supply (which is new). Its when I plug in two USB controllers that it cuts out on me after a while.

I play all kinds of games (Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2 etc..) at MAX settings and never have a problem. It happened for the first time when I installed 2k11 today.

Thoughts???

Nope, never Over Clocked...

If other demanding games such as Modern Warfare 2 and BF:BC2 doesnt have a problem then I can eliminate GPU or PSU problems as these games are more demanding than NBA 2k11 (assuming it is as demanding as 2k9/10).. My videocard doesnt heat up much when playing NBA 2k9/2k10 but I hear the fan rev up when I play BF:BC2 :)

I would look into the USB and controller in this case. Tried other ports?

I downloaded this software and ran the game in windowed mode so I could see the temps. It lasted about 7 mins. All temps were within acceptable ranges according to the monitor.

Did you install the game from a disc or did you download it? If it's a download, where did you bought it?

I think you are on the right track with your troubleshooting assumptions. You can try to eliminate the USB port as the problem by not having any plugged in and let the cpu play by itself, and see if it still shuts down. If it doesn't, try using only one controller and see if it shuts down.

Okay, so I did something that worked today. I have several PC controllers, and I switched them up. The ones that I was using when I had the problem were RUMBLE controllers. The controllers I tried later today were NOT RUMBLE controllers. When I used the non rumble controllers, I had no problem.

So, this begs the question. 1) Either NBA2k11 has issues with RUMBLE controllers that are not xbox 360 controllers, or 2) My drivers might be bad?

i am using the dualshock 3 ps3 controller with the motionjoy driver for win 7 64, set to xbox 360 emulation and had np at all cept my controller freaking out once and resetting forcing me to quit out the game and swap it out to a new usb port.

but no crashes or anything. oddly i can see my f430 wheel in the game controllers options for some reason tho, dunno why the game recognizes it heh, but been swapping between this and f1 2010 so not been bothered to disconnect it.

is your CPU's fan dirty?
because when it's dirty, the air will not flow to your CPU
and then your CPU will become HOT
when your CPU become HOT, it will automatic shut down

I went as far as to try two other controllers. Two logitec "cool" controllers that have a fan built into them to keep your hand warm.

I installed the drivers that came with the controllers, and had no problem whatsoever.

My logic was that if these controllers took extra power (to power the fans in the controllers) it might have the same effect as the rumble controllers. So, at this point I have to include that something was REALLY wrong with my rumble controller drivers?

Has anyone else been able to use logitech rumble controllers on this PC version of NBA2k11?

I use one rumble2 and one "ordinary| logitech gamepad

Grrrrrrr...I have this problem too. Happened all the time in 2K10 for me also. I tried reformating my whole PC, and it still kept on shutting down. I'm gonna try switching some USB stuff around...

Re: PC Shuts Down

Mon Oct 11, 2010 12:29 pm

For me the issue was drivers, not the graphics card overheating.

I switched controllers (to non-rumble controllers) and updated the drivers and I was good.

anyone know how to turn rumble off on the xbox 360 controller? i tried switching usb stuff around and it is STILL shutting down my PC. It's only this game that's doing it.
