Knicks Add Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Basketball Staff.

NEW YORK, March 4, 2004 – New York Knickerbockers President, Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas today announced that NBA Hall of Famer and native-New Yorker Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has joined the team’s basketball operations staff. Abdul-Jabbar will handle a variety of duties on the basketball side, including scouting and player evaluation.

“Kareem set the standard of excellence in professional basketball, and it is a pleasure to be able to add him to our staff and bring him back to New York,” Thomas said. “His knowledge of basketball will be invaluable to this franchise as we work our way back to the top of the NBA.”

Nice to see Kareem back in the NBA. I believe his last gig was as an assistant coach with the Clippers.

Oh and as the title of .org reads:

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so please, keep imitating me, you're making my already big ego even bigger. Thanx. :D

Kareem was an assistant coach under Alvin Gentry when Gentry was still coaching the Clippers. When Gentry was fired and Dennis Johnson was named interim coach, and not Kareem, he left the team.

Kareem had a legendary career as an NBA player but has had trouble getting any notable position in the front office of any NBA team. There is some speculation that Kareem's attitude as a player has kept him from any gainful employment, which is sad. You would think a player with that much knowledge and experience would catch a break. Hopefully this scouting position works out for him. :)
