I really wonder how the foreigner treats him ???
Can mention in the same breath to O'neal ?
Ps: i am a chinese.
Thu Feb 12, 2004 3:29 pm
Who cares if your chinese man?
As for Yao, he has a world of potential, good fundamentals and footwork, but he is still a work in progress. I dont think he's ready to be the leader of the rockets. One day he will be tho..
Thu Feb 12, 2004 3:41 pm
the game today against LA really impressed me.. he controlled the ball way more.. he is transforming into the leader.. Maybe with a bad lost in the playoffs will get him off next season.. You can't be taught until you lose..
Thu Feb 12, 2004 3:54 pm

He is doing good today~
All the palyers went nuts
And YAO proved that he deserve the starter of the ALL-STAR GAME
Thu Feb 12, 2004 5:36 pm
i didnt see the game but SHAQ fouled out with 5 calls coming in the 4th quarter?
either, yao totally outplayed shaq or the refs were smoking some serious weed. 5 fouls in one quarter??? c'mon
Thu Feb 12, 2004 6:07 pm
Yao Dominated fat shit shaq.....sorry i am really anti laker i hate them

but yao definatly the future big man! unless someone else comes along!
Thu Feb 12, 2004 9:00 pm
He could be great, one of the best of his time. But he's not there yet.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 4:24 am
I think yao is good, the lack of good centers makes him even better if you know what mean. He hasen't improved that much from last season by judging from the stats, but he is relieable and is a very important force. I think his weight gain probably helped him a bit, and if he just gain some more, like 20pounds, he will be a unstoppable.
I think he should get like 5minuts extra to play, if he can handle it. He performs in his 30 minuts better than Jim, Steve and Cuttino who almost play 40minuts every game
Fri Feb 13, 2004 6:52 am
Right now, Yao Ming should become the best center in the NBA, there aren't too many other prospects (oh...I hope Darko). There is only one player that probably will determine if Yao becomes the best in the NBA. Rasho Nesterovic. If Nesterovic stays where he is, Yao will be, if Nesterovic is horrible, Yao will not be the best center in the NBA.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 10:13 am
Rasho Nesterovic isn't going to be a great center in the NBA. I am 100% sure of that. He is not going to be even close to Yao, and he isn't now.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 11:03 am
I never said he would be. I said if he's as good as he is now, Yao Ming will be the best center in the league, but if Rasho is horrible, Yao Ming will not be.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 12:26 pm
This is what I think of yao:
He ws way too over-hyped coming into the league. In his last year in china he averaged 32 ppg. Before that was hardly even close. He only had 10 ppg in his first year.
And YAO proved that he deserve the starter of the ALL-STAR GAME
He didnt deserve it. If you went down to Africa and told everyone there to vote for Motumbo, he'd be starting in the East. If the NBA translated their site into every language, there would be a whole bunch of different starters each year.
Yao still needs some years and weight. Right now, he's to thin. But if he gets big he'll be the most dominent center ever. He has good range.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 1:16 pm
Mehmet Okur got a good future ahead of him..
Darko Milicic is all projected right now..
Maciej Lampe is projected..
those are the future big men that will compete with Yao for the best big man in the league
Fri Feb 13, 2004 1:44 pm

actually it went 10, 20, 21, 27, then 32. learn the facts before you speak.
He didnt deserve it.
now tell me who else in the league can compete against shaq physically like yao did? who else doesn't back down from shaq? who else can dominate over shaq, even if it was just one night? and who else can get smacked in the head hard by shaq and still dunk on him?
If you went down to Africa and told everyone there to vote for Motumbo, he'd be starting in the East. If the NBA translated their site into every language, there would be a whole bunch of different starters each year.
if that's your theory, how come i dont see dirk and pau get voted to start? the nba has german and spanish sites.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 1:51 pm
Shaq had more internet votes than Yao but Yao had more non-internet votes than Shaq. So you can't just say Yao was voted in just because everyone in China was voting like crazy.
Just comparing internet votes only, Shaq would be the starter not Yao.

Eh... maybe I'm slow but I just wanna make sure if I'm assuming this correctly. Are you meaning that if Rasho is horrible, Tim Duncan will be moved to center position, thus making Yao not the best center in the league? If not, I really don't understand what you're trying to say here.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 3:52 pm
A legitimate case can be made for Shaq being the greatest centre to play. Ever. I dont like what he's aloowed to get away with, but thats the refs fault for not calling the game properly, not shaqs for playing the game within the boundries. He has also said some ridiculous stuff before, but he was just saying whats on his mind. Im not saying i agree with it, but everyone has said things they dont mean before.
Yao's style isnt new though.. Its just like rik smits, but alot of new nba fans wont remmeber him too well..

Yao ming stat wise does not deserve to be an all star in west.
Shaq,
Miller are 2 that deserve it 10 times more. Yao has to earn it.
To be honest he is just another Bradley.
He has the body to be the most dominating player in the NBA since Chamblerin. If he were to be more aggresive he would be the best player in the world. But Yao is like Nowitzki he does not wanna be great, his goal in life was to make the NBA if you look at Shaq his goal was to be the best. Yao does not have the passion to be a great NBA player that is needed.
Don't get me wrong here guys. In 20 years Yao Ming will be in the Hall Of Fame as one of the best International players to ever play in NBA. But right now hes not better then Dirk, Peja, Kirlenko, Ginobli, all 4 of these guys deserve an all star spot before Yao.
To say Yao is voted in on stats is the most arrogant statement ever made. There are Cs in this league that have better stats. Ming was voted in because the all star ballot is stupid. THe fans vote for who there favorite player is not who deserves to be in the game. Also his race has something to with it, no offense to any one but you think 1 person in china voted for any C in west besides Yao ??? Comeon now. If you vote by stats Miller or Shaq deserve to start.

I disagree. His offensive game is much better than Bradley's.

He's still young so he has lots of time to learn to become more aggressive. Shaq was a lazy player on defense early in his career but in his prime he started to player better defense. Although now after many injuries he's started to become lazy on defense at times.

Yeah stat-wise he doesn't compared to Dirk, Peja, AK, Ginobili but remember Yao is only in his second year, and if you compare his stats to the second year stats of Dirk, Peja, AK, and Ginobili they're not that far off.
Mark Nordstrom wrote:

Yao had fewer internet votes than Shaq anyways so opening the voting to China and other overseas countries actually helped Shaq more than it helped Yao. Shaq had more non-internet votes than Yao, so if you want to blame anyone for voting for Yao, blame the people in America and Canada.
Anyways people don't always vote just by stats for events such as the all-star game - they vote for people they want to see play. Several years ago Cal Ripken Jr was voted in as the shortstop for the baseball all-star game but he wasn't even the best shortstop.
Fri Feb 13, 2004 8:18 pm
yah but Ripken is one of the best to EVER play the game of baseball at SS and 3b. Its totally different he was voted in because he earned it over his career. Yao has not earned it and will not for years to come.
Offensive game ?? LOL, I got a question if here were 6'5 would he be as good ?? no his offensive game works because hes 6inches taler then most guys who guard him.
Anyways just push his ass around and it eliminates him from game. Also he tends to play when hes facing someone great like Shaq but does not get focused day in and day out. Maybe because he was the best player in china and did not need to bring his A game every night.
Right now my Bradley assumption is right, you push both around and be physical they dont play good afterwards.

Offensive game ?? LOL, I got a question if here were 6'5 would he be as good ??
He'll probably be a Guard. There's so many "if's" in basketball. What if Shaq were 6'0?? We'll never know.
There are Cs in this league that have better stats.
Shaq, and who else? C'mon, Benji, make a list.
Also his race has something to with it, no offense to any one but you think 1 person in china voted for any C in west besides Yao ???
Do you think people in the U.S. vote just for Cs from that country??
Also, the fan voting is about who you like. I'm sure there are people in China who doesn't like Yao, just like people in the U.S. who doesn't like Shaq.

Considering how many people thought Yao would wash out entirely...he's better already then most everyone thought he would be. Because of that...I think we should give him time before we start making projections about his entire career.
Sat Feb 14, 2004 8:08 am
here is my list
Shaq,
Miller
Camby(having a great year in denver) THERE WINNING
Dirk should be at C because he plays it most of time
TD plays C most of game to.
E. Dampier (if he were in east he would be starting C)
Gasol is avg more ppg then Yao, just as many blocks to.
Thats 7 guys who should start at C in west BEFORE YAO. Compare the stats girls.
