I'm guessing they're not too concerned about any legal challenges.

Re: WWE Thread

Seeing Smackdown results hints an Edge-Y2J match at WrestleMania.

Re: WWE Thread

Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:53 pm

Y2J needs a title first. :/
My post from above:

Watched the Rumble, love Edge returning, although it doesn't look like we'll be getting a Jericho-Edge Mania match, unless Jericho wins the Heavyweight title in the Chamber, which I highly doubt.

I could still see it happening though, which could also set up Taker/HBK if they're set on having a repeat.

NXT is going to be a reality based program
PWInsider.com is reporting that the new WWE NXT show will be reality based, as the SyFy network has been wanting WWE to do something along these lines for awhile now.

The show will reportedly be a mix of on-air feuds and reality based TV where the viewers can actually follow the wrestlers outside of the ring as well. The viewers will be following the wrestlers from day one, and they will get to know who they actually are, as they fight to become the next big WWE star and hopefully get moved to either the Raw or Smackdown brand.

It should be noted that WWE has been pitching ideas for the new show since the fall of '09, and although there can certainly be aspects of the show different from what we're reporting now, the base idea for the show seems to be that it will be reality based and focus entirely on new talent.

no......no thank you

I don't know, it could work. I must admit I didn't follow ECW much anyway and will probably give NXT about the same attention at most, but hopefully it works out for new talent trying to make it in WWE.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:46 am

I watched ECW to see Christan and Tommy Dreamer....but lately I haven't even bothered to watch it...

may as well start televising FCW stuff rather than run a third brand

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:55 am

Not a bad idea, if they want to glorify a developmental territory.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:18 pm

Miz & Big Show new Tag Champs :eh:
Miz gets pushed way too hard.

Re: WWE Thread

What the hell, so that makes him twice as awesome.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:58 pm

I would have rathered them goto CM Punk's team, or at least splitting them like i had said earlier

The whole point is that it's an interim step, though. The ECW format worked better, really, where you had some established stars as well, to get the younger guys over.

A reality wrestling show? Righto then...

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 4:05 pm

I was talking about elevating FCW as Jon suggested. In any case, I don't think I'll have more than a casual interest in NXT but hopefully it works out for the best and satisfies both the WWE and SyFy from a ratings standpoint. At least it'll get Christian onto RAW or Smackdown.

Meanwhile, based on what happened on RAW it looks like they might do Bret vs Vince after all, or at least a tag match at Wrestlemania 26.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 4:12 pm

I realise that. As I said, merely televising FCW means you lose the step between FCW and WWE, which would result in a worse show due to nobody actually having shown that they can get over yet, and lacks the more established wrestlers to help get the new guys over.

Re: WWE Thread

Tue Feb 09, 2010 4:26 pm

That's true, but it obviously wasn't satisfying the WWE or SyFy so I guess it's Plan B. Maybe having another show like Superstars and using it to get young talent over would've been better than the NXT idea but who knows.

so Cole screwed up again last night

Cole all but announced DX would be losing the tag belts by saying "Who will be the new tag champions we'll find out when Raw returns"

I wouldn't be surprised if JR ends up replacing him when he's well enough to return to WWE TV. Meanwhile, looks like The Rock will guest host an upcoming RAW. I'd still like to see that gimmick end after Wrestlemania but not before Stone Cold's appearance in March and The Rock's appearance whenever that may be.

Pretty big news, WWE is done with "Survivor Series" and wont be using that name anymore.
http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/article ... -ppv-96251

Also they sent out a survey asking for ideas on Themed PPV events which included
PPV Name/Theme Ideas:

Tournament:

Single Elimintation "bracket style" tournament where Superstars would compete in multiple matches during the night to become the winner of the tournament.

Legends PPV:

Each match would feature a WWE Legend.

War Games:

Teams of 5 Collide in 2 cages. 2 participants begin the match with a new participant added every 5 minutes. This process is alternated between teams until all members from both teams are present.

Street Fight:

Main Events would feature a 'Street Fight' stipulation where there are no disqualifications & pin-falls count anywhere. Superstars often compete in street clothes.

Money in the Bank PPV:

The main event "Money in the Bank" match requires Superstars to climb a ladder and retrieve a briefcase hung high above the ring. The winner can "cash in" the briefcase for a championship title shot throughout the year. Qualifying matches earlier in the event will determine participants for the "Money in the Bank" match.

Roulette:

Main Event Stipulations would be determined by the spin of a roulette wheel.

Battle Bowl PPV:

Random Tag Teams compete together - sometimes arch-rivals - with the winning teams being put in a 2-ring Battle Royal. The winner could potentially recieve a championship match.

Of those choices I would be interested in War Games returning and the Street Fight one with wrestlers in street clothes. I loved it when the Rock would compete in the wind pants and shirt.

That's a shame, I think they've got a pretty good concept in the Survivor Series if they actually used it for more than one or two matches on the card, but it seems that the gimmick PPVs have produced good buyrates so I guess we can't argue with the bottom line. Of those concepts, the Tournament (couldn't they just revive King of the Ring? The name fits and the history is there) and Money in the Bank are the ones I like most for a PPV.

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:16 pm

Tournament, Legends and Battlebowl are the ones I'd want to see. Everything else has been done to death before.

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:27 pm

So long as they actually book the "random" drawings. Back in the day, Dusty Rhodes booked a random tag team tournament in WCW that literally was a random drawing (though the finishes themselves were of course booked). Apparently it was a complete disaster.

Re: WWE Thread

Just bring back King Of The Ring on a PPV.

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Feb 12, 2010 3:15 pm

in somewhat related news, TNA's PPV for Sunday has an 8 man Tournament for #1 Contendershipnessness nesss.

Re: WWE Thread

Fri Feb 12, 2010 6:31 pm

Amazing that Hogan's not a part of that. For someone who said he was coming in to be a behind the scenes guy, he sure seems to be on camera a fair bit. It's understandable I suppose, he's a huge name in the industry and they're doing what they can to boost ratings but I can't help feeling it'll eventually hurt them.

Re: WWE Thread

I saw the TNA Screw Job copy thing on OneHD the other week, one of the most pathetic and retarded things I've ever witnessed in professional wrestling. Why on Earth would they even do that? That alone guaranteed I won't bother watching again.
