Yinka Dare passed away at 32 years of age

Sun Jan 11, 2004 2:41 pm

The 7-foot-0 Nigerian center played 110 games in four seasons with the Nets, averaging 2.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. He had only four career assists, none in his first two seasons.

Pffft conspiracy! 4 assists... pfft... everybody knows that Yinka was a star... i don't know why they still hide it.

R.I.P Yinka: The greatest Basketball player of all time, and thanks for the NLSC memories!! :D

A heart attack at 32...I know many of us laughed at Yinka during his NBA career, but this isn't funny. :(

Sun Jan 11, 2004 2:48 pm

Yinka's star struck career is barely a laughing matter, Andrew. ;) ;)

Sun Jan 11, 2004 2:52 pm

Good point.

Sun Jan 11, 2004 3:15 pm

Man, that's pretty sad. Perhaps he had too many nights out drinking with Jayson Williams and Charles Barkley?

Very young to die, and who would have thought a professional athlete would suffer a heart attack!

RIP Yinka. After all this guy provided some classic NLSC moments (y)

Sun Jan 11, 2004 3:24 pm

hey andrew, Put him in the legends pool under your next Roster update as a memorial

Sun Jan 11, 2004 3:28 pm

a legend with an overall rating of 15?

Sun Jan 11, 2004 4:06 pm

More like 115.

Sun Jan 11, 2004 4:32 pm

Yinka Dare...the man who thought that the "C" on Christian Laettner's jersey, ment "Caucasian"

R.I.P...

Sun Jan 11, 2004 4:37 pm

the heart attack is probably form being so tall.
I don't think it can be healthy being 7'0.

Sun Jan 11, 2004 5:52 pm

I still remember his first assist in 1997, a three pointer by Lloyd Daniels.

Wow, this is unthinkable, I know we used to laugh at this guy but seeing a 32 year old guy die of a heart attack is a pretty sad one. My hearts are with his family and friends.

It's not unprecedented though. Former Celtic, the late Reggie Lewis, suffered cardiac arrest during a shootaround - I believe he was in his mid to late 20s.

R.I.P the great Yinka Dare...and the greatest player and person in the whole world...thank you Yinka Dare we will not forget you

Wow! I remember reading about Lloyd Daniels. Apparently quite a talent, but blew his chances with drungs and alcohol. I'm thinking Yinka's first career assist had a devastating affect on Daniels and lead to his downfall! The pass of death!

Wasn't Yinka trying to make a comeback just recently? Wasn't there an article or something? (Sorry I haven't read the one above yet, so I don't know if there's any mention)...

Sun Jan 11, 2004 8:07 pm

I believe he made the Golden State Warriors' training camp a few years back, but was cut before the season started. He last played in the NBA in 1998, but I'm pretty sure he played a few seasons in the CBA.

Sun Jan 11, 2004 9:09 pm

Sun Jan 11, 2004 9:32 pm

MVP!MVP!MVP!

After years of dominanting the nba, Yinka had change the way the game was played. So the U.S. Governament with help from the F.B.I. and C.I.A. they try to stop the almighty Yinka. After many attemps so assinate the great one, they finally come up with the idea of framing Yinka that he betted on the nba, ala Pete Rose in baseball. With this lie they were able to bann Yinka out of basketball, making room for lesser talanted players like Micheal Jordan to take over the game.

The C.I.A. also limited the amount of playing time for the Messiah Keith Closs. Knowing that Keith would dominant the league as did his idol yinka did. One move that is bann from the NBA and 48 states is yinka's famous "triple murder crossover." Because it broke too many ankles. The Yinka Dare "come Dare with me" video series is illegal to be in procession of.

We need a new guy with miserable career!Keith Closs?Travis Knight?Oliver Miller?Felton Spencer?Bill Wennington?

Mon Jan 12, 2004 12:44 am

Man i couldnt believe it when i saw it on nba.com in the headlines.
32 years old! a heart attack.....thats very young.

Mon Jan 12, 2004 1:09 am

It is very sad that he died at 32 but some guy died playing soccer and he was even younger,if I remember right he had an heart attack too

Mon Jan 12, 2004 1:10 pm

Well I put him on my 90s East team for ESPN NBA. He's rated 99 -- like he should be -- and he's an absolute monster down low. I put him against Wilt and he destroyed him! Anyways, he deserve to be there, after all he's done for the NBA and this forum.

Mon Jan 12, 2004 10:27 pm

R.I.P. Yinka... He died at the climax of his art ... Like Bruce Lee or John Lennon ... Assists will never have the same flavour for me

Tue Jan 13, 2004 10:21 pm

Everyone's starting 5 is a little bit depleted now. I'm gonna have to sign Keith Closs to play PG for me.

R.I.P. Yinka.
