Resolutions and monitor size

I am getting a new gaming PC, and monitor etc and don't know which size to get. There is good and bad points for different sizes.

If some of you guys have seen or bought these resolutions can you comment? I don't know anyone who has these bigger ones and buying the PC through the net so I can't go into the store to see them. So I have to choose without seeing them.

1680x1050 - 16:10 ratio, 22 inch size, since it's lower resolution it can hopefully play well the future games that are hard to get good fps (like Crysis)
1900x1080 - 16:9 wider ratio, 23-24 inch size, bigger but more pixels = gets less fps in the newer games.
1920x1200 is out of my price range.

FPS won't be an issue with 2k9 and 2k10. Which do you think would look better for 2k10? 16:9 is same ratio as used on TV's for consoles and movies. Does this make a big difference or will both look good? The main thing I don't know is, is 24 inches too big for a computer or is always bigger = better? I will also watch TV on this monitor. Thanks for your help.

At this point I think I'll be going 1920x1080 since fps in games shouldn't be an issue (will be using dx9 not dx10 with 275GTX), unless someone who has this monitor size can advise me otherwise. Playing 2k10 with user vs user should be fun.

You might not notice the difference in a 20" monitor that is 1680x1050 or 1920x1080, but if the monitor is 24" or higher, go with 1920x1080. Although, choosing an LCD with a low pixel response time is also key. Who cares if the resolution is high when all you see is ghosted images.

Haha. It's a nice problem to have. It's just hard when monitors are such a visual thing and we all have different visual tastes and buying through the net gets cheap prices but no test out for your own eyes. For example, it's the same with soundcards, you judge sound quality off other peoples reviews (and ears), argh don't get me started. Oh well... cheers..

Thanks pdub. I believe it's 5ms. And that under 8 is usually okay, I know that it varies from model to model but the reviews said ghosting with gaming and movies was okay. Monitors are getting ridiculously cheap. I got my last 19inch LCD for A$280, and now these two are for A$250-280. It says on the official Samsung site the bigger one retails at A$450, and 6 months or so later, it's at the price it is now. Good for us, I guess. I think it's similar with video cards with Ati and Nvidia pushing each other to lower prices.
