copy pasted from my response to you at OS

08 has sig shots which was expanded for 100 some odd players by a mod. 08 has a very bad, unfixable, sim engine though for dynasty mode

07 has better freestyle control than 06, but it separates the dunk and layup buttons. 07 is the most "sim" imo after community patches. also it might have the most community patches than any other live PC game

06 is the most arcadey/fun game with the overpowered FSS moves, yet it has the best pacing of the last 5 games. This game does have the "EA Glitch" for CPU come backs to keep the game close/challenging

05 is the best game without any patches. only downfall is the lack of fast breaks which was kind of fixed by a community aiact. This game also has the "EA Glitch"

All of the above have regular roster and art updates from the NLSC

04, is my personal favorite with emotion on player's faces and an immersive dynasty mode with magazine covers, empty stadiums for crappy teams, in-game tickers for other games around the league, trade/draft/signing/releasing/training custscenes and the such. the major drawback is the inability to include all current 30 teams in dynasty mode since the bobcats weren't a part of the league yet. There is a "ryff studio" mod created by some chinese patchers that updates the game for this season. IIRC, up to the trade deadline. This one does have the EA glitch as well.

06 through 08 are the same graphically, 05 has an inferior lighting system but a shadow system. 04 doesn't have good graphics really...unless you use ENBseries to mask it.

If you got questions I'll be glad to answer them, each game has pros and cons that make it or break it. So if you could tell me if you would rather have a realistic sim game, a fun game, or if realistic stats are your thing I can direct you to the right game and patches.
Opinions are my own.

I agree with what Jao said I did really enjoy 03 & 04 with how much of the gae could be modified though graphics might annoy you at this stage. 06 was fun and with the Superstar Freestyle you did have a bit more control on what move you wanted to perform but 07's Superstar Freestyle was more versitle in allowing to use more than 1 set style at a time.

for modding wise 03-06 were easy to mod and more enjoyable. 07 & 08 weren't as enjoyable as there were limits to what resolution files could be in.

Whats the "EA Glitch"
Allen Iverson passing on family values:

A.I.: son, what you doing there?
A.I.'s son: practicing my math for my test tommorow
A.I: practice? practice? we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test - practice. we talkin' 'bout practice. not the test, not the test - practice.

It's also called the comeback code or comeback logic; as Jao said, it basically involves the CPU doing whatever it must to get back into the game to keep things close and challenge the user, even if it means temporarily gaining superhuman abilities while the user's players seemingly forget how to play basketball. It can be quite difficult to counteract to say the least.
