Superman's Team

Although being only 23, Dwight Howard has become the best Big man in the league. With his athletic ability and strength he is an unstoppable force around the basket. "Superman" will lead this talented team sky high, as he will only get better. Last season was a bit disappointing as the Magic were eliminated by the much stronger Detroit Pistons in the 2nd round. This year Orlando is stronger as they have 4 potential All-stars on their team. Howard, Lewis, Nelson and Turkoglu.

"Dwight has improved his offensive game a lot this summer"- Team mate Jameer Nelson stated. We surely still remember that amazing performance at the Sprite Slam Dunk contest last year where Howard won with some spectacular dunks. Shaq wasn't too happy to see someone taking his Superman nickname and literally fly in the air. "I am the Superman"-Shaq said. Howard said he will do his best to help this team go deep into play-offs, improve his team mates and make Orlando a better team. Although Dwight is a great player, he still has a lot to do to measure with the Magic's All-time greats. Here are the best seasons from each of Orlando's greats.

Shaquille O'Neal- 29.3 ppg | 11.4 rpg | 2.7 bpg-1994/1995 season- Shaq led the league in scoring and also led the Magic to their first NBA Finals where they were swept by the Houston Rockets. Shaq showed the NBA that he is an elite Center by finishing 2nd in the MVP voting.

Penny Hardaway- 21.7 ppg | 7.1 apg | 4.3 rpg-1995/1996 season- Penny was named a starter in the All-star game and also lead the Magic to a franchise high 60 wins. They were kicked out by the Bulls who eventually won the championship. Penny finished 3rd in the MVP voting

Tracy McGrady- 32.1 ppg | 6.5 rpg | 5.5 apg-2002/2003 season- McGrady captured his 1st scoring title (he has 2) as he led the poor Magic team to Play-offs were they were knocked out by the much stronger Detroit Pistons

Ray Allen scored 24 points as the Celtics won in their 1st preseason game

October 5th, 2008

ORLANDO (AP) -- The big three proved to be too strong for the Magic as Ray Allen lead the Celtics with 24 points, including 6 three pointers. The final result was 85-72 in the Celtic favor.

The main reason why the Magic lost is their laziness on the defensive end and lack of rebounds. They were Out-rebounded 30-16 . Dwight Howard led all scorers with 32 points. But he only managed to pull down 6 boards, showing he is still very inexperienced. His dunks and blocks didn't help his team as he collected. "I didn't realize he scored that many points until our coach told us"- said Garnett, who guarded Howard the whole game. Kevin Garnett had a decent game, scoring 24 points, to go with 10 rebounds to round off a double-double performance by the Celtics forward. 4 of the Celtics starters scored in double digits as the only one not to reach the 10 point mark was Perkins. He, although collected a game-high 13 rebounds. Rajon Rondo had a solid game as he scored 14 points and dished out 7 assists. He is quickly showing his potential and quickness, as he also had 4 steals in this good performance. "He can really be something good in this league. His quickness, driving ability and defensive awareness will make him an All-star one day"- Fellow guard Ray Allen stated.

Howard wasn't completely alone at this defeat. He had some offensive help at Rashard Lewis who managed to score 19 points. Nelson was pretty shabby today as he only scored 9 points. The team missed a lot of open shots and didn't run plays as they should. It was a result of bad team chemistry between the players, and the coach wasn't happy. "We can play much better than this and the guys know it"- Stan Van Gundy said. At the end of the 3rd quarter it was already a blowout with a 68-50 result as the Celtics sent their bench on the floor. With 2:00 left on the clock it was 80-64 as the Celtics gave themselves a little bit of slack to allow the Magic to slightly push in the last minute and a half.

Notes: Rafer Alston, recently traded from the Houston Rockets, made his debut tonight. He scored 2 points and had 4 assists in 6 minutes on the floor Hedo Turkoglu got injured in the 2nd quarter as he collided with Gled Davis in midair. He will be able to play the next game but he has a slightly sore finger on his non shooting hand. The next game will be played at Rome, Italy, as the Magic will face the Toronto Raptors.

Bosh's Last Quarter Heroics Sunk The Magic

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Dwight Howard's high flying act gets the crowd going in the 3rd quarter

October 10th, 2008

Image

ROME, ITALY (AP) - Chris Bosh led the Raptors to a tight win as he managed to rack up 24 points. It was a tight game, decide by Bosh's clutch plays and rebounds. The Magic led by as many as 11 but managed to blew everything up in the 4th quarter with their poor defense. The final score was 106-99.

In 2 days time, the Magic travel to Berlin, Germany where they will meet the Phoenix Suns

Bosh had an outstanding game, scoring 19 of his 34 points in the 4th quarter. He outplayed Lewis in the deciding moments and helped Toronto win this game. Bosh also had a game high 14 rebounds. But it was Shawn Marion who kept Toronto in the game for the first 2 quarters. His shooting was great as he only missed 3 shots. "Shawn is really giving his best out there"- Anthony Parker said at the half. "He is shooting, rebounding, stealing the ball and really keeping us in the game". Marion however, only scored 4 points in the second half.

At the break it was 59-51 in the favor of the Magic. But the Calderon-Bosh duo finally worked. Juan Calderon played the point great today as he served his team mates 11 times. He also racked up 18 points for the double-double. However, he played fairly poor on defense. That allowed Jameer Nelson to put on some impressive numbers. Nelson finished with 23 points and 11 assists. He played 3 full quarters (didn't play the 2nd). "He really gave me trouble with his quickness and shooting ability"-Calderon said. "When I thought he was going to shoot, he went to the basket, when I though he was going for the basket, he founded an open team mate for an assists".

The Magic improved slightly in rebounding, having 27 in total. Dwight Howard collected 10 rebounds tonight, but only had 1 block. On the offensive end, he scored 23 points. In the 4th quarter the Magic constantly gave the ball to Rashard Lewis, that enabled him to rack up a team-high 31 points. He missed more than he scored, but he was effective. He collected 5 rebounds as his team lost its 2nd game in a row.

NOTES: Hedo Turkoglu, who was injured in the last game, played in this one as he scored 8 points and collected 5 boards. He said his finger is good now and he has fully recovered. Stan Van Gundy, Orlando's head coach, said that he is looking for a clutch shooter in a trade that could involve R.Lewis.

Trade Rumors Shock The Magic

ImageImage
If this trade happens, The Magic will stay thin at the Power Forward spot

October 11th, 2008

ORLANDO (AP) - After Rudy Gay's statement that he is unhappy in Memphis, he has quickly been put in the Magic by the press. The deal should include Rudy Gay, Rashard Lewis and Anthony Johnson. "I am not ready to comment on this statement yet"-coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Rudy would be an excellent addition to our team, but if we lost Rashard, we would be weakened.

Rudy Gay has stated earlier this weak that he wants out of Memphis. The reason is their weak team. "I want to play in the play-offs, and Memphis can't give me that"-Rudy said. Mike Conley said the same, but he doesn't want to go in the same way as Rudy. "I want to make this team better"-Conley said.

If this rumors are true, it would be an reunion of High-school buddies. Rudy and Dwight Howard played together in high school. "I talked to coach Van Gundy, he said he would like to see Rudy here"-Howard said for the press. "It would be a great addition, we know each other back from high-school, and he is very talented. But I must admit I would hate to see Rashard go, he has been our go to guy the last few games and this would be a step in the wrong direction"-Howard admitted.

Jason Richardson Sinks The Magic With 2 Clutch Plays

Image
J-Rich gets pumped as he knocks a clutch shot in the final seconds.

October 12th, 2008

BERLIN (AP) - Howard and Co. have suffered another defeat. This is their 3rd in a row. The Europe Live Tour isn't going too well for them as the mediocre Suns proved to be more clutch that a "Title contender" team. Although Orlando had 3 players scoring 20 or more, it wasn't enough to win it. The final score was 120-116.

That veteran players can still rack up 20+ points proved Grant Hill as he scored a team-high 24 points. Grant did it all. Dunked, shot the ball well and also had 5 assists. "He played like in his best years" Turkoglu stated. "There was no way I could stop him, he knocked the jumper even when I extended as much as I could". Hill also made some important shots in the 4th quarter. Jameer Nelson was terrific in the 1st half, scoring 23 of his 34 points, including6 three pointers. He really did put on a shooting display. Nelson finished the game with 34 points and 9 assists. He broke his personal record by knocking 4 three pointers in the 2nd quarter.

Rashard Lewis, recently linked in a trade rumor involving Rudy Gay, had a game high 36 points, an astonishing 20 in the 4th quarter. He scored even when double teamed. Lewis also collected a mediocre 3 rebounds in his best performance in this preseason so far. "Man did he play today"-Hill said. "I know I played good, but he really carried his team in the 4th quarter. He is proving that he is clutch as hell".

Steve Nash showed why he was named MVP twice in his career. The veteran guard scored 20 points and dished 11 assists as he showed he still has some skills. Nash also made the play of the day, blocking Redick's 3-points attempt by sending the ball to the stands. By the end of the 3rd it was all tied at 70. Dwight Howard made a bold statement by saying they will certainly win the game. The big fella finished with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks, but his team would lose.

with 1:12 it was tied at 110 as Lewis knocked down 2 straight 3-pointers to give the Magic a 6 point lead 0:55 seconds before the end. But then Jason Richardson answered. As he got the ball fro Hill, he knocked an wide open 3-pointer to make it a 3 point game. Then, with 0:45 left on the clock, Hill has stolen the ball and knocked down an contested 3 pointer. "Lets win this"-J-Rich said. with 30 seconds left, Howard made a spin move on Shaq, went for the dunk, but missed a wide open dunk. J-Rich then ran down the court, made a pass fake and knocked a shot from the top of the key! The arena was wild! Orlando called a time-out. as Nelson had the ball, he got a pick from Howard, but missed an wide open shot. Robin Lopez grabbed 1 of his 9 rebounds, he thrown an full-court pass to J-Rich for the windmill with 3.5 on the clock. J-Rich was pumped(showed on the picture). It was 120-116 for the Suns and the Magic didn't try to come back.

NOTES: The next game is the last game of the European Live tour, and it will be played at Barcelona, Spain against the New Orleans Hornets.

I mean I can try again, but they just can't get open shots, and Turkoglu is slow. I was thinking of starting Alston instead of Lee

Like the idea of getting rid of Lewis as you might get a huge salary cap space then from minus to plus. But if you lost Rashard then you have no power forwards on the team.
Close losses suck, i always hate it so much that I don't wan to play anymore :D
Good luck with next games though (Y)
