Congratz on the Championship Andrew. Well done ... (Y)

But a question ... If I read your Recaps right, KG has averaged a triple double through the finals. So why is he listed with 6.8 apg?

I believe those were KG's playoff averages, not the Finals, as 6.8 is impossible in four games.

Thanks. :) Those are actually his numbers for the playoffs, I guess I should have put a note about that.

See below. ;)

2004 Offseason
Projected Draft Depth: Very Strong

Retiring Players

F Mark Bryant (FA)
G Chris Childs (FA)
C Derrick Coleman (Phi)
C Chris Dudley (FA)
G Tim Hardaway (Chi)
G Avery Johnson (GS)
F Grant Long (FA)
F Karl Malone (LAL)
F Tony Massenburg (Sac)
F Charles Oakley (FA)
G Wesley Person (Mem)
G Brian Shaw (FA)
F Monty Williams (Phi)
C Kevin Willis (SA)

Some surprising retirements, namely Wesley Person (33) and Monty Williams (32). Karl Malone retired without a ring or the all-time scoring title. I also thought Derrick Coleman would stick around a little longer.

Draft Lottery

1. Portland
2. Milwaukee
3. Seattle
4. Washington
5. Miami
6. Phoenix
7. Houston
8. Houston (from Utah)
9. Cleveland
10. Boston
11. Toronto
12. Minnesota
13. Atlanta

The playoff teams will pick in the following order:

14. Golden State
15. Denver
16. Detroit
17. Memphis
18. Orlando
19. New York
20. New Jersey
21. LA Clippers
22. San Antonio
23. Philadelphia
24. New Orleans
25. Indiana
26. LA Lakers
27. Sacramento
28. Dallas
29. Chicago

Washington had the most chances in the lottery, but failed to get a top three pick. Portland only had 89 ping pong balls in the lottery, which was fifth best. Milwaukee had the second most chances and snared the second pick, while Seattle (4th) beat out Miami (3rd) for the third draft choice.

Houston should be able to upgrade their roster through the draft, thanks to the strong rookie crop and two top 10 picks, courtesy of a trade with the Jazz.

Re-Sign Players

The Bulls re-sign F Kevin Garnett for 7 years at 279,600 points per year
The Bulls re-sign G Jamal Crawford for 3 years at 216,000 points per year
The Bulls re-sign F Lonny Baxter for 1 year at 99,300 points

Kendall Gill announced he will not re-sign with the Bulls

Gill has dropped to 51 overall, KG has remained at 97 overall, Baxter went up to 55 overall and Crawford is now 63 overall (up from 62). I can certainly spare Gill, while I'm willing to give Baxter another chance, KG is the team's MVP and Crawford has shown slight improvement (and was a key player in the championship run).

2004 Rookie Draft

First Round

1. Portland - F E. Sloan (74 Overall)
2. Milwaukee - F T. Dane (70 Overall)
3. Seattle - G O. Bryant (71 Overall)
4. Washington - G O. Boden (74 Overall)
5. Miami - F I. Hayne (68 Overall)
6. Phoenix - G T. Betts (67 Overall)
7. Houston - F H. Croshere (69 Overall)
8. Houston (from Utah) - C R. Hawken (67 Overall)
9. Cleveland - G B. Earhart (60 Overall)
10. Boston - F C. Spencer (70 Overall)
11. Toronto - G G. Roberts (58 Overall)
12. Minnesota - G E. Sorrell (58 Overall)
13. Atlanta - G A. Pitt (62 Overall)
14. Golden State - F S. Wells (58 Overall)
15. Denver - F J. Benzer (57 Overall)
16. Detroit - C B. Harding (54 Overall)
17. Memphis - G J. Jacobs (51 Overall)
18. Orlando - G M. Strong (60 Overall)
19. New York - C R. Terry (54 Overall)
20. New Jersey - F E. Burns (47 Overall)
21. LA Clippers - G C. Lynch (49 Overall)
22. San Antonio - G J. Gilmore (47 Overall)
23. Philadelphia - G J. Faulk (47 Overall)
24. New Orleans - C C. Brewer (47 Overall)
25. Indiana - F K. Akinwande (45 Overall)
26. LA Lakers - C E. Hanson (46 Overall)
27. Sacramento - F C. Burgess (44 Overall)
28. Dallas - F P. Russell (44 Overall)
29. Chicago - F Jose Horne (43 Overall)

Second Round

30. Washington - G S. Tyler (42 Overall)
31. Milwaukee - F B. Gill (45 Overall)
32. Miami - F C. Hall (41 Overall)
33. Seattle - F D. Mason (39 Overall)
34. Portland - F S. Irwin (44 Overall)
35. Phoenix - F E. Morrison (40 Overall)
36. Houston - Forfeited
37. Utah - F N. Hill (39 Overall)
38. Cleveland - F V. Chandler (38 Overall)
39. Boston - G R. Tyler (38 Overall)
40. Toronto - C M. Royal (39 Overall)
41. Minnesota - G D. Andrews (38 Overall)
42. Atlanta - C E. Rider (37 Overall)
43. Golden State - G B. Tolbert (37 Overall)
44. Denver - G O. Findlay (37 Overall)
45. Detroit - C B. Marshall (37 Overall)
46. Memphis - G R. Clark (36 Overall)
47. Orlando - F C. Martin (37 Overall)
48. New York - G B. Oxford (34 Overall)
49. New Jersey - G W. Brunson (35 Overall)
50. LA Clippers - G A. Boylan (34 Overall)
51. San Antonio - G A. Lovell (37 Overall)
52. Philadelphia - G A Billings (33 Overall)
53. New Orleans - G A. Falla (34 Overall)
54. Indiana - C A. Gamble (33 Overall)
55. LA Lakers - G E. Mack (33 Overall)
56. Sacramento - G B. Galan (32 Overall)
57. Dallas - G A. Robards (31 Overall)
58. Chicago - Khamidi Payne (33 Overall)

Houston certainly made the most of their two top 10 picks, selecting two big men in the high 60s. It looks like Boston has another steal with the 10th pick in B. Earhart. My picks are fairly weak, but that's to be expected with the 29th pick. I don't know if they'll stick around for too long.

Sign Free Agents

Since I'm over the cap, I can't really take part in this part of the Offseason.

Key Free Agents

G Allen Iverson (83 Overall) - Sixers
G Jason Terry (70 Overall) - Hawks
F Kenny Thomas (68 Overall) - Sixers
C Stromile Swift (65 Overall) - Grizzlies
G Stephen Jackson (65 Overall) - Hawks
G Brent Barry (64 Overall) - Sonics
G Troy Hudson (62 Overall) - Timberwolves
G Penny Hardaway (61 Overall) - Suns
F Darius Miles (60 Overall) - Cavaliers
C Vlade Divac (59 Overall) - Kings

All made it through to the start of the season unsigned, so I've signed them and traded them to those teams.

Training Camp

No significant improvement, but fortunately no decline at all. I focused on shooting, with only Blount and rookie Horne showing improvement (+1 for Inside Scoring).

Chicago Bulls 2004/2005 Roster

Starting Five
C: Eddy Curry (64)
F: Kevin Garnett (97)
F: Scottie Pippen (58)

Indiana took a Gamble. :D

Very nice recaps, I hope you go on to the 2nd season, increase the difficulty through the sliders, let some bad things happen, take risks, be happy (Y)

I'll definitely be making some slider changes in an effort to increase the difficulty (I'm playing on Superstar, but as I've said before, human intelligence will eventually overcome artificial intelligence). I'll be increasing the free throw difficulty, as I shot over 90% in the playoffs.

I've also been attempting fewer dunks and layups, especially in my season opener (see below). I attempted more jumpshots with KG in particular, who was shooting around 54% last season (which isn't too bad, but still a little too good).

Anyway, the season opener:

Chicago 82, Toronto 71

A pretty good season opener. A slow paced game with Toronto trailing by as many as 17 in the second quarter. They sorted themselves out in the third quarter cutting the deficit to six, but never came any closer.

Top Performers

Kevin Garnett (POG): 22 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal
Jamal Crawford: 11 points, 3 rebounds
Kirk Hinrich: 10 points, 7 assists
Donyell Marshall: 10 points, 5 rebounds
Scottie Pippen: 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
Khamidi Payne: 7 points, 3 assists
Tyson Chandler: 6 points, 15 rebounds, 1 block
Eddy Curry: 4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block

Lamond Murray: 21 points
Vince Carter: 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals
Alvin Williams: 11 points, 6 assists
Morris Peterson: 8 points
Antonio Davis: 4 points, 11 rebounds

Current Record: 1-0
Next Opponent: New Jersey Nets (1-2)

Rookie Watch

Khamidi Payne looked pretty good in his debut. I kept him on the floor for 17 minutes, and he responded with 7 points and 3 assists. Jose Horne played 11 minutes, but didn't really get a chance to show what he could do. With Scottie Pippen likely playing fewer minutes this season, there are a few extra minutes to divide up between the reserves, so hopefully my rookies will have a few good games.

Offseason Correction

I actually signed Kurt Thomas and traded him to the Sixers, not Kenny Thomas. Oh well, at least I've ensured he'll be on an NBA roster this season.

Andrew have you considered playng Chadler pf and KG sf, as Pippen is on the way out.

Curry
Chandler
Garnett
Crawford
Heinrich

aint too bad, give KG more oppurtunities to play on the perimeter, as u do want him to shoot more.

Postby HonorGlow on Fri May 07, 2004 4:29 am

Yes, I also find it tough to divvy up the minutes to the rookies fairly. As some people know, I just let the rookie play a good portion of the first half when the game is up in the air and then sit him down and let Shaq takeover right when you feel the CPU wants to do the inevitable comeback.

Hope this season goes well, I'm suffering through a 3 point loss from the Clippers...too much trying to get my starting center a triple double. But it's a long season as Abdul-Jabbar once said.

Since he's unlikely to play again in real life, I'm leaving him on the IR for now. I'll see how Payne plays though. I might bring Jay Will back later in the season.

I've tried playing KG at small forward Laddas, but he doesn't get as many rebounds. I might give it another go though, as Chandler improved in the offseason and played pretty well in the season opener.

TheBigEasy wrote:How did you do that? What did they trade to you in return?

I just signed them for the minimum then traded them for scrubs, then released the scrubs. The CPU teams always accepted the deals since it favoured them so much.

LOL you swapped Kenny Thomas and Kurt Thomas too!

Yep. I just glanced at the name in the Free Agents and did the sign-and-trade without paying much attention. Oh well, at least I've avoided having good players sit out the year in the Free Agent pool.

Hey Andrew,

Congrats on the championship mate, I would've posted earlier, but I got caught up!
Anyway, excellent off season. Looks like you can devolop that rookie of yours, both of them. Bad luck about 'Tim Bug' retiring, but he got his ring!
Good to see KG resigned for a maxium, and Crawford. Bad luck about Gill, suppose he's cleared the way for Robinson and Crawford!

And by the way Andrew, with the free agents, hasn't AI still got years left, or is he up for grabs this offseason?

Anyway, onto the season issues..
Great first game, good to see the rookie Payne is doing alright. And KG again, well, an early bet for MVP again. Good work on Hinrich, I hope he plays well for you, he's a good handler.

One last thing, with Pippen seeing less minutes, I'd say, start Donyell at SF, and Pippen, although I'm a fan and bias, bring him in for 20 minutes or less a game. He can come up big, but I think he'll be better acting as a co- coach (more leadership roles than a captain) this season. I like the way, that there isn't many trades to, it's the original Bulls. Great work, and good to see your staright into it, no mucking around for Andrew!!

Looking foward to your next game, keep it up.
Might catchup to you on MSN...

Congrats Andrew on your Title :D .

Good to see your continuing on with this Bulls Dynasty.

Yeah i agree with Macca you should play Pip off the bench now that he is declining.

Good Luck with your new season.

He does, but I'm playing this Dynasty on the PS2 (I have the PC version of course, but I started this Dynasty first and am enjoying it too much to quit it and start a new one on the PC). The console versions were released before AI and KG signed their extensions this past offseason.

Macca wrote:One last thing, with Pippen seeing less minutes, I'd say, start Donyell at SF, and Pippen, although I'm a fan and bias, bring him in for 20 minutes or less a game. He can come up big, but I think he'll be better acting as a co- coach (more leadership roles than a captain) this season.

I'm definitely thinking about bringing Pip off the bench. I'm going to give him a few games to see how he plays. He had 10, 5 and 5 in the first game, which isn't too much worse than last year's numbers. I'll probably move him to the bench later in the season though.

Thanks for the continued interest everyone. :)

Chicago 88, New Jersey 85

A poor fourth quarter on my part saw New Jersey almost overcome a 16 point deficit, but I held on in the closing seconds for an 88-85 victory. Kirk Hinrich, who struggled against Kidd in the 2004 playoffs, had an excellent game and was named Player of the Game, the first time in a long while that a player other than KG has been given the honour.

Top Performers

Kirk Hinrich (POG): 26 points, 4 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals
Kevin Garnett: 18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists
Jamal Crawford: 10 points
Donyell Marshall: 10 points, 5 rebounds

Jason Kidd: 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
Kerry Kittles: 18 points, 6 rebounds
Richard Jefferson: 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists
Kenyon Martin: 8 points, 6 rebounds
Alonzo Mourning: 8 points, 8 rebounds

Current Record: 2-0
Next Game: @ Milwaukee Bucks (0-2)

Thoughts

I'll try bringing Pip off the bench in the next game. To tell you the truth, I'm not really into this season so far. With the exception of the late run in the New Jersey game, the opponents seem too easy, possibly because everyone's Primacy is so low (resulting in the CPU using too much of the shot clock too often). Still, I'll stick it out a few more games, and perhaps make some slider changes to see if I can make it a little more challenging. The weird simulated stats (Kobe Bryant 12.3 ppg for example) are also a little off-putting; one of my pet peeves of NBA Live 2004.

Really nice recap loved the Draft , FA coverage and thats a good idea about signing FA's and trading them back to there old team that happens alot to me so il try that.
where does Lonny Baxter fit in to your team, does he get many minutes?
About Kobe's numbers when i was doing my Knicks season in its second year half of last years allstars were averaging about 11-18 ppg but still up as MVP runner  hope EA fixs that issue.

Well done on getting the ring last season look forward to reading about the glory of this one, keep us updated on how the class of 04 are doing and how they have turned there teams around

Lonny Baxter's actually getting a little more time this season. He's still stuck behind a lot of talent in the frontcourt, but with Pip playing fewer minutes, it allows KG to play at small forward giving Baxter a little extra playing time.

hey andrew, Ive been following you dynasty for several weeks now. (i only now decided to sign up to the forums) and let me say, i love the reading =)

Can i throw you a suggestion? What do you think of starting Chandler at center and have curry come off the bench.
I have played several times with Chandler and he can be extremely productive defensively and his rebounding skills are exeptional.

And I agree with the one that said that maybe Marshall could replace Pippen in the starting job. Pippen could be that extra magic off the bench.

keep up the awesome dynasty.

Thanks for the comments. :) I've thought about starting Chandler at centre with Curry coming off the bench. I tried it last season when Curry was slumping, and would have kept Chandler as the starting centre had Curry not broken out of the slump.

I see you've already figured it out, but for anyone else who's wondering, the forum's settings allow you to change your username yourself when you edit your Profile.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I haven't played Live 2004 for a while. As soon as I play some more games, I'll post some recaps. :)

I know I haven't updated for some time, but I haven't played Live 2004 for a while and I really don't know if I'll be continuing this Dynasty. If I do, I'll certainly keep posting some updates. Anyway, I want to thank everyone for reading, I really appreciate you taking an interest in all the recaps. :)

PC evidence...

Postby HonorGlow on Fri May 21, 2004 2:03 am

But this is just evidence that you need to play the PC version, Andrew. I think half the fun is moding the game and putting legends, international players, players in the NLSC community, yatta yatta as rookies into the league and eventually meet up with them during the course of your Dynasty. Keeps me interested for the next upcoming season…

And of course, trying to shut down Cocobee entirely has fueled me to no end!

But I also feel that there's been a bit of a lull in the 2004 excitement as the sprinklings of 2005 has surfaced here and there...

But also, I think some of us have put down the game to watch the REAL PLAYOFFS.

Just to rub it in to all of you... I'm going to Game 2 this Sunday to see the Lakers!!! You all can jump in the car if you want...yes, Cocobee, I'm a lucky bastard.
