Perkins and Brewer sent to Toronto for Bargnani

Image

Toronto has today traded former number one pick Andrea Bargnani and rookie Vince O'Mahony to Oklahoma City.
In return they receive center Kendrick Perkins, swingman Corey Brewer and the Thunder's 2012 first round draft pick.

Rumours are doing the rounds that Thunder superstar Kevin Durant was involved in this deal being completed.
It is believed that Durant met with coach Brooks and made clear his feelings about his lessoned game time this season.
A deeper roster has led to extra rotations and it has affected the chemistry between the likes of Durant and Westbrook.
The talented pair's numbers are down this year compared to the last 2 seasons. Clearly they weren't happy sharing minutes.
Durant averaged almost 32 points per game in each of the last two seasons. He is currently scoring only 24 per game.
Westbrook has gone from 9.6 apg in 2009 to 12.2 last season, but is only managing 7 per game this season.
It had seemed that the Thunder hierarchy were pleased with their roster, but they were keen to keep their star player happy.
The 2010 MVP has been the foundation behind the Thunder's earlier than expected championship challenges.

General manager Sam Presti commented on the deal:
"I can't predict the future, but as far as I'm concerned this will be the last deal we make for quite a while.
Andrea is a player we've been interested in for quite a while. But circumstances didn't allow us to pursue him until now.
With his contract running for several years we didn't have the option to sign him for nothing or save cap room and forego other options.
So we signed guys like Al [Horford] and Kevin [Love], and they've done really well for us. Kevin is established as a starter for us now.
We finally had enough pieces to interest Toronto in discussing a deal. They've been sorely lacking a quality center for many years.
Perk and Corey are good enough to start for most teams in the league. They never complained about having a bench role here though.
Being a number one pick puts a lot of pressure on a player. We hope that he can fulfil his potential with our team."

Toronto have been looking for a true center for many years and will be happy to acquire former Celtic Perkins.
The Raptors are his fourth team in just three years. They hope he settles in Toronto and plays out his career there.
Brewer was an excellent back-up to Durant during. He will likely fight Linas Kleiza for a starting berth in Toronto.
Bargnani was the star player in Toronto since Chris Bosh left for Miami. He's been in great form this season too.
The 7 foot Italian is averaging 27.6 ppg, 11.3 rpg and 2.5 bpg and has started in all 14 of Toronto's games so far.
This deal gives them a deep bench. With the likes of Amir Johnson, Jerryd Bayless, DeMar DeRozan and of course Brewer.

Don't know what to say about trade, let's see how Bargnani can play in Thunder as a bench player.

I'm sure I'll rotate between Bargnani and Love in the starting PF spot for the rest of the season.

Shame I can only have 5 on the court at once. :x

Not really feeling the trade but if it makes things more enjoyable and handling the roster a little easier then I guess it's a deal worth making.

I know. It wasn't really a deal that fits in with my story, but I've wanted to get Bargnani for a couple of seasons now. He's 7 ft tall and can shoot.

It's interesting the team you can make with some of the players I've traded away during the last couple of seasons.

C - Perkins, Collison
PF - Horford, Krstic
SF - Green, Brewer, Outlaw
SG - Mayo, Cook, Sefolosha
PG - Maynor, Law

The Bobcats fell asleep after the first quarter, it seems. Solid debut for Bargnani.

Stoudemire out of big clash

Image

Reigning MVP Amare Stoudemire strained a calf muscle in training today and will miss the Knicks game against Oklahoma City.
The powerful forward has so far picked up where he left of last season, averaging 30 points and 12 rebounds per game.
It comes as a big blow for the Knicks as they were looking to seriously challenge the NBA champions in New York.
After picking up Michael Conley from Detroit in the off-season, they are 13-4 and leading the eastern conference.
Conley has filled the vacancy left by Chauncey Billups perfectly. He is averaging 13 points and 10 assists a game.
He makes up another 'big three' with Stoudemire and recently acquired Carmelo Anthony, himself scoring 26 a game.

This game was being built up by the media as a potential early season glimpse at a possible Finals match-up.
Oklahoma City are still going strong after two championships and are currently leading the west with a 13-2 record.
The Knicks still have Anthony and Conley available and will be looking to give their home fans a goof performance.

Great season from my man K-Mart so far. (Y) Terrible shooting by the Bobcats though, you seem to have recovered nicely from a terrible first quarter. I reckon that NY with Stat would provide you a formidable tough game, but your team is too deep at each position to lose against the Knicks.

I don't know what happened to them. They really should have beaten me after that start.
Bargnani was solid. He seems to be a bit more mobile than Love and could potentially be a great scorer for me.

Andrew wrote:Shame as far as it being a marquee matchup is concerned, but their loss should be your gain. :)

True. But it's like Miami losing LeBron. They've still got Wade and Bosh. I'm still expected a close game.

I've started poorly in a few games this season. Luckily I'm used to coming back from 20+ points after three seasons. (Y)

Postby Andrew on Wed Jun 08, 2011 5:00 pm

That's a big starting five for the Knicks with Melo at shooting guard. Douglas or Walker starting at the two with Turiaf at centre, Randolph at power forward and Melo at small forward would be more realistic but that's the roster reordering logic of the sim engine for you. In any event, good job keeping things a one man show, with only Melo to carry the load they clearly didn't have the firepower to keep up with you in the second half.

Pretty balanced attack for the Raptors. Doesn't look like Love was able to get in much of a run off the bench.
