Andrew's Chicago Bulls Dynasty - November 2006

A collection of memorable Dynasty and Franchise threads.

Sweetney and Songaila are the highest rated players I'd be willing to part with right now, though Sweetney's playing quite well so I might just make a couple of trades after the Draft if some of the other prospects do turn out to be as good as advertised. Right now I'm looking at a small forward who looks like he might be able to play both guard spots as well making him an interesting prospect. He's got good potential as well so even though it's early I'm leaning towards him right now.

In madden 06 you can make trades during the draft, can you do that in live 06?

Also, whats sweetneys contract like? You might be able to make some cap room as well if you make the right deal :)

Nah, no trading of picks and/or players during the draft itself, so I'll either try to snare a pick before the deadline or trade for the player(s) in the offseason.

Sweetney's contract is somewhere around $2.12 million and lasts another couple of years. I've also got Jake Voshkul and Malik Allen earning around $4 million combined, I might try to get rid of them for a late pick or cap room though their deals expire at the end of the year. Wesley Person's contract comes off the books as well so I'll have a decent amount of cap room.

Still debating whether to hex edit to give myself New York's pick though.

I say go for it. ;)

A good read as always. Malik Allen can be useful, I've seen- but Jake is a bust. Worth getting rid of the both of them, I'd say.

I'm starting to lean towards doing it but if possible I'd like to get another first rounder more legitimately...even if getting the Knicks' pick would actually be true to life.

Definitely agree as far as Jake is concerned. He basically came over to make the Tim Thomas to Charlotte for cap space deal work since they had a full roster at the time and I hoped he might be able to fill in sometimes and at least provide some height but he hasn't been much help. He's a free agent at the season's end so it's not desperate that I get rid of him but I'll try to get something more tangible for him before then.

January 25th, 2006
Chicago (113) at Toronto (79)
Gordon scores 25 as Bulls rout Raptors

[ Boxscore ]

The Bulls opened strong scoring the first seven points of the game and never trailed as they dominated the Raptors for a 113-79 road victory. Gordon scored 11 of his 25 points in the first quarter and led six Bulls in double figures in scoring. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 15 points and had six blocks, but managed only four rebounds. In total, the Bulls held a staggering 46-19 rebounding advantage including an 18 offensive boards to Toronto's seven.

"They just beat us up tonight," Raptors' coach Sam Mitchell commented after the game. "They jumped on us early and kept the pressure on all night. Frankly I'm surprised they only beat us by 34." Toronto would come within 20 points a few times in the second half after trailing by 21 at halftime but would not come closer than an 18 point deficit during the third and never trailed by less than 25 points in the fourth quarter.

Chicago were without Luol Deng, who is still recovering from a mild injury to his achilles tendon. Tyson Chandler stepped back into the starting lineup and had a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, also blocking three shots in 30 minutes. Deng is expected to be back in the lineup when the Bulls take on the Washington Wizards in two night's time but Jannero Pargo, activated before the game to take Deng's place on the roster will be heading back to the inactive list after injuring his elbow during his first minute of play in almost a month.

Notes: Chicago's 46-19 victory on the boards was a season high margin while Toronto's 19 rebounds was a season low...Darius Songaila hit the first three pointer of his NBA career during the fourth quarter. The three came from the left wing to beat the shot clock and banked in...the Bulls committed only six fouls to the Raptors' 21. They also had the advantage in assists (25-13).

Thanks Drex. No such luck in the latest game though. :(

January 27th, 2006
Washington (117) at Chicago (109)
Wizards overcome foul trouble, beat Bulls in United Center

[ Boxscore ]

Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas were plagued by foul trouble and played only 21 and 25 minutes respectively. It didn't seem to matter though as Jamison scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds and Arenas added 16 points and 3 assists as the Washington Wizards stole a 117-109 victory over the Chicago Bulls on the road. All five Wizards' starters scored in double figures and Jarvis Hayes added 15 points in 19 minutes off the bench and the team combined to shoot an impressive 55.6% from the field.

After Washington scored the first four points of the game the Bulls came alive and appeared to be in control of the tempo until Antawn Jamison's three pointer put the Wizards up 14-11 halfway through the first quarter. Chicago did not appear rattled however and while the Wizards would not relinquish the lead the deficit would be cut to two after a couple of three pointers by Chris Duhon to end the first period.

In the second quarter the Wizards would take control of the game and while Chicago had some success going small and running a three guard lineup with Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon and Duhon on the floor at the same time, Washington again pulled away and held an 11 point lead at the half. The Bulls attempted another run in the third but Washington seemingly had an answer for every basket matching the Bulls' firepower and extending the lead to twelve heading into the final quarter.

The Bulls managed to outscore the Wizards in the fourth but the burst would come too late. The Wizards led by as many as 21 in the quarter and though Eric Piatkowski would provide a late spark scoring 8 points in the final four minutes and brought the Bulls within eight, Washington protected the ball and sealed the game from the free throw line after the Bulls were forced to foul.

Caron Butler led the way for the Wizards scoring 18 points, dishing out 10 assists and grabbing four rebounds. Chucky Atkins also had a fine game with 12 points and 8 assists. Gordon top scored for the Bulls with 22 but was 9/22 for the game and 0/7 from downtown.

Notes: The rebounding battle ended in a tie at 37. Chicago had 18 offensive rebounds to Washington's 15. The Wizards are the top offensive rebounding team in the league...the Wizards handed out 34 assists to the Bulls' 21. The Wizards' starting five accounted for more assists than the entire Chicago team.

Ploughing? I had to look that one up. Turns out its the same as plowing which I'm more acustomed to seeing.

Real balanced scoring for both of you, especially the Wizards where everyone scored except Ruffin. You were throwing up bricks from 3, 4/21 :o .

I really love your recaps, its a good read !
For the game I have to say it seems like you pretty depend on Ben putting up big numbers, I would like to see a win-loss stat with Gordon over 30 and under 30 points.

Yep, the variant we use in Australia, like colour and centre. ;)

It's definitely a weakness of mine, has been in every game. On top of that, my controller's also gone a bit funny lately with the left stick refusing to be calibrated properly so a lot of the time I find myself moving left when I don't want to...which has led to some open jumpers turning into leaners and a couple of frustrating travelling calls.

To a certain extent, he's definitely the player I go to most when we're in a jam. But more than anything I simply didn't defend the Wizards well enough and they kept out of reach. The more balanced attack with Gordon at the forefront has worked better than Gordon averaging 30+ as he was earlier in the year.

Its_adsf wrote:Holy smokes, Shawn Kemp played like the Kemp of old that game. What are his current stats?

He's averaging around 13 and 8 I believe. He's been working out great but still doesn't make things too unrealistic in my opinion, since I made sure to alter his ratings to account for his age and declining athleticism.

January 28th, 2006
Atlanta (87) at Chicago (96)
Bulls overcome poor start, late run to defeat Hawks

[ Boxscore ]

After the first 12 minutes, it appeared Chicago would be in for a rough night. The Hawks had begun to pull away after the game remained close for the first seven minutes and the Bulls just couldn't put the ball in the basket shooting a woeful 27.3% from the field in the quarter. But the home team were not about to wither away in front of their fans.

Though Atlanta would remain in control of the game for the first five minutes of the second quarter, Chicago began to show signs of life and finished the quarter on a 23-15 surge and tying the game at 46 on a dunk from Tyson Chandler before Joe Johnson made a layup with four seconds left in the half to put Atlanta back up by one entering halftime. A Kirk Hinrich three early in the third quarter gave Chicago a 51-50 lead and they would not trail again, leading by as many as 15 in the period.

Chicago continued to hold a double digit advantage for most of the fourth quarter. The Hawks at times cut the lead to 8 and appeared poised to make a final push but were ultimately unable to topple the Bulls, who triumphed 96-87.

Notes: Atlanta shot a franchise low 3/8 from the free throw line...Chicago had the advantage on the glass 49-43. Four players were in double digits for rebounds; Shawn Kemp (10), Andres Nocioni (11), Al Harrington (16) and Zaza Pachulia (10)...while the Bulls had a clear advantage in free throws, both struggled from downtown (4/22 for Atlanta, 4/23 for Chicago).

January 31st, 2006
Chicago (97) at Dallas (90)
Dirk scores 34 but Mavs fall 97-90

[ Boxscore ]

Chicago seemingly had no answer for Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 34 points on 17/26 shooting, but held his teammates to a combined 40% from the field as they picked up an impressive 97-90 victory against one of the league's top teams.

The Bulls once again struggled in the first quarter trailing by as many as 12 before narrowing the gap to seven by the end of the period. They would not be denied in the second quarter however, outscoring Dallas 32-21 led by Ben Gordon who had nine second quarter points and finished the half with 14. Nowitzki scored 16 first half points for the Mavericks who suddenly found themselves trailing by four.

Dallas did not seem rattled as they began the third quarter strong, evening the score and trading buckets with the Bulls throughout the period. Gordon and Nowitzki continued to duel throughout the third, each finishing with 8 points. It would be Chicago who would take a 73-68 advantage into the final quarter.

Nowitzki and the Mavs still refused to quit, taking a 77-75 lead during a furious run to begin the fourth. It didn't take long for Chicago to recover however and the lead seemed to change on every possession until the Bulls pulled ahead for good at 87-86. Gordon struggled in the fourth shooting 1/6 and scoring only two points but Chris Duhon carried the load scoring 8 of his 17 points in the final stanza.

Chicago (111) at New Orleans (94)
Hinrich sets assist record in blowout victory

[ Boxscore ]

The Chicago Bulls began February in style with a 111-94 road victory over the New Orleans Hornets thanks to a spectacular performance by Kirk Hinrich. The fourth year guard set a new record for assists in a single game with 31, one assist higher than the mark set by his former coach Scott Skiles. Hinrich also contributed 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals while containing Chris Paul, January's Western Conference Rookie of the Month.

"It was incredible," Ben Gordon said of his teammate. "He seemed to find everyone in the right spot every time. It felt like every time he made the pass, we made the shot. Incredible." Gordon finished with 17 points in one of the few games he has not led the team in scoring this season. Andres Nocioni led all scorers with 20 points in addition to grabbing 9 rebounds. Seven Bulls scored in double digits and the whole team combined to shoot 54.4% from the field.

Chicago scored the first six points of the game before the Hornets made a small run to even the score at 10. It would be the closest the Hornets would come the rest of the way however as the Bulls scored the next four points and finished the quarter with a six point lead. The Bulls pulled further ahead in the second quarter before blowing the game wide open in the third. Chicago's defense was extremely stingy allowing New Orleans only one point through the first eight minutes of play.

New Orleans would never challenge the lead again but managed to reduce the deficit late in the quarter as JR Smith threw down a huge dunk on Hinrich and freed himself up for a long two and a three pointer on consecutive possessions. Hinrich registered his 31st assist with just over two minutes remaining on a layup by Darius Songaila before the two teams went basket for basket the rest of the way.

Notes: The Bulls totalled 36 assists, twice as many as New Orleans...Tyson Chandler had all five of Chicago's blocks...Eric Piatkowski was the only Bulls player not to make a field goal. He was scoreless in the contest...every Hornets player scored at least two points.

February 4th, 2006
Chicago (99) at Phoenix (91)
Gordon injured in Bulls' victory

[ Boxscore ]

Even though Ben Gordon was forced to leave the game due to injury, the Bulls were not about to let the game slip away. Kirk Hinrich scored 8 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as Chicago overcame a determined Phoenix Suns team and 10 fourth quarter points from Steve Nash, holding on for a 99-91 road victory.

The first quarter was a defensive chess match with Chicago holding Phoenix to two points through the first seven minutes of the game while only scoring six of their own. Both teams would find their rhythm but the first quarter ended with the Bulls ahead 18-14. It was more of the same in the second with Chicago leading by double digits most of the way until the Suns cut into the lead in the closing minutes of the half trailing by eight. Chris Duhon was forced to the bench two minutes into the second after he appeared to injure a finger but would later return.

Phoenix opened up the third quarter with a 14-5 run to take a 49-48 lead early in the period. The Bulls recovered quickly and appeared to be back in control of the game running of seven points for a 55-49 lead but the Suns didn't back down, scoring 7 straight of their own for a 56-55 advantage. Chicago quickly recaptured the lead behind Darius Songaila's 8 third quarter points and finished the third up 63-61.

Duhon returned at the beginning of the fourth but the Bulls would soon be dealt another blow as Gordon injured his wrist halfway through the period, allowing the Suns to gain momentum and a two point lead. Chicago answered every Phoenix basket however and tied the game at 91 with a minute and a half remaining.

Andres Nocioni would then come up with the defensive play of the game, blocking Stoudemire's shot and sparking a fast break that led to a fast break basket to put the Bulls up 93-91. Nash then committed a careless backcourt violation, turning the ball over. Hinrich found Chandler underneath for a dunk to give Chicago a 95-91 advantage. Grant was called for a three second violation on the Suns' next trip down the floor forcing them to foul Hinrich on the next play. He made both free throws then Person intercepted a pass at the other end and was put on the line where he made both, putting the game well out of reach.

CHICAGO, IL -- Bulls' guard Ben Gordon is expected to miss up to six weeks with a broken bone in his wrist, sustained in a collision with Jim Jackson in last night's 99-91 victory over the Suns in Phoenix. Gordon is averaging 27.5 ppg, 3 rpg and 5.5 apg in 46 games this season. The Bulls are also expected to be without Chris Duhon for tomorrow's game against the Utah Jazz due to a mildly sprained finger.

Jannero Pargo and Malik Allen are expected to replace Gordon and Duhon on the active roster. The Bulls have a full roster with 15 players but with Gordon out for more than a month they are expected to make a move to bring in another guard. With Gordon and Duhon out, the Bulls have only three guards on the active roster.

Coach's Diary
February 5th, 2006 - Tough times ahead

Even though we're 30-17 thanks to the run through January, spirits aren't exactly high right now. The loss of Ben is going to be tough, especially in our next game since Chris will be sitting as well. Once we get him back he'll be starting alongside Kirk in the backcourt but I'd like to make a couple of moves to try and get another guard, preferably someone who can give us some minutes at both guard spots until Ben's ready to come back. I expect it might take a few games before we sort ourselves out and replace Ben's scoring but we're playing at a high level right now and we're not about to fall in a heap. Still, it's going to be tough times ahead.

Breaking news: Bulls, Bobcats complete four player trade

CHICAGO, IL -- The Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Bobcats have completed a trade that will send centres Othella Harrington and Jake Voskuhl to Charlotte in exchange for guards Matt Carroll and Kevin Burleson.

Caroll is expected to get some minutes in the absence of Ben Gordon, who will miss up to six weeks with a broken wrist, while Burleson is expected to be cut. The move will give Chicago over $4.5 million in cap room. Harrington and Voskuhl will add depth in the middle for the Bobcats as they now have four centres on the roster.

Bulls cut Allen, Burleson; sign Campbell, Wagner

CHICAGO, IL -- The Chicago Bulls announced the release of point guard Kevin Burleson, acquired yesterday in a trade with Charlotte, as well as power forward Malik Allen who will be a free agent this summer. Chicago also announced the signing of veteran big man Elden Campbell, who won a championship with Detroit in 2004, and guard Dajuan Wagner who will likely fill in at both guard spots while Ben Gordon is out with a broken wrist.

Both players will be in uniform when the Bulls take on the Jazz in Utah tonight.

Chicago (90) at Utah (99)
Depleted Bulls collapse in second half

[ Boxscore ]

Playing their first of several games without their injured leading scorer Ben Gordon as well as reserve point guard Chris Duhon, the Bulls found themselves unable to cope with a balanced attack from the Utah Jazz. Andrei Kirilenko scored 16 points and added 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 15 rebounds as Utah defended their homecourt with a nine point victory.

The Jazz scored the first 9 points of the game as the Bulls looked sluggish, finally getting onto the scoreboard after Luol Deng made a pair of free throws. Deng continued to lead the charge through the first quarter as Chicago stormed back and took the lead, holding it until the break. The Bulls kept the momentum at the start of the second but were soon slowed by the defense of the Jazz. Despite 20 first half points from Deng the Jazz had tied it up at 50.

Utah was the aggressor in the third quarter opening with a 14-4 run that had the Bulls back on their heels. Chicago couldn't buy a basket while the Jazz's offense was in high gear, scoring 25 points in the quarter to ring up a nine point advantage heading into the fourth. The Bulls would come within four but fell apart late in the game. Kirilenko scored 10 points in the fourth including a 30 foot three pointer that banked in to beat the shot clock as Utah overwhelmed the shorthanded Bulls and picking up the 99-90 victory.

Notes: Elden Campbell, Matt Carroll and Dajuan Wagner all made their debut for Chicago. They contributed 5 points, 5 assists, 2 steals and shot a combined 2/8 from the field and 1/2 from the line...Utah outrebounded Chicago 49-41 including 21-14 on the offensive glass.

A little, but I did anticipate it would take a couple of games to adjust to playing without Gordon. Even though the scoring is a bit more evenly distributed than it was earlier in the year he's still the first option and the most effective player when I need to put points on the board in a hurry and the offense is stalling. I think that can be ironed out within the next couple of games, from there it's a matter of holding the fort until he's ready to play again.

I'm not too upset by the injury because it makes things more interesting, but it's a shame about the timing because he'll miss out on the All-Star Weekend and six weeks is a long time for him to be out.

No, but with Duhon returning in the next game (or the game after that if he hasn't healed) I'm planning on moving Chandler back to the bench since he seems to play better there, while sliding Hinrich over to shooting guard and starting Duhon at the point. That'll give me a lineup of:

C: Kemp
F: Nocioni
F: Deng
G: Hinrich
G: Duhon

That's a lineup I do use at times during my regular rotation so I feel it will be effective.

If you get desperate, you could shorten your roatation by bringing in chandler, and having kemp at the 5, chandler at the 4, nocioni at 3 and a backcourt of deng and hinrich. or you could bring in paitkowski, see if the old man has anything left in the tank

Pike still has his moments but he's yet to have the same kind of clutch performance he turned out in my NBA Live 2005 Bulls Dynasty. I'll probably run that lineup at some point though I find Chandler's usually more effective at the five.

Dajuan Wagner, he's awesome. I hope he gets more minutes while Gordon is gone.

Okur should be starting at the Center position instead of Ostertag (for the Jazz)..

chandler only 2 points, wow... Are you considering trading him before the deadline or in the offseason?

I was kind of expecting a better performance out of Wagner in his debut however he really couldnt do much in 11 minutes. 4 assists in that span isnt bad though. Maybe next game he'll get more playing time and give gratitude for it by playing well.

Tough loss but in time things should get back to normal. I hope Gordon's recovery is going well.

Why though? You lost out on eddy curry and the draft pick was the top compensation in the deal. It also adds to the realism, just becuase live 06 didnt have it set doesnt mean you should miss out :P. Just think, you could be like joe dumars in 2003, only this time you draft a carmelo or wade and not darko :proud:

True, but I like to think of a Dynasty game as its own reality and I already brought Kemp back (albeit signicantly lower than his Legend ratings) so I'm not sure if I want to bother with the Knicks' pick. But I haven't decided yet.

February 8th, 2006
Chicago (136) at Denver (130) 2OT
Chandler comes up huge in double-OT victory

[ Boxscore ]

With Ben Gordon sidelined, the Chicago Bulls are looking for a new hero. Against the Denver Nuggets help came from the usual suspects, as well as an unexpected source. But no player was more impressive in extra time than Tyson Chandler, who totalled 14 points and 5 rebounds in the two overtime periods, finishing with 26 points, 19 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

With just over two minutes remaining regulation it didn't appear as though the game was headed for an overtime period, let alone two. After Chicago finished the first half up 50-48, Denver went on an 11-0 run to begin the third quarter and held a seven point lead through most of the quarter. Dajuan Wagner's jumper late in the period tied the game at 74 before Earl Boykins made a three to put the Nuggets back on top. Denver would lead 79-77 heading into the fourth.

The Bulls recaptured the lead early but found themselves down by eight in the closing minutes. After Chicago took a 105-104 lead, Voshon Lenard converted on a three point play to put Denver up 107-105. After a timeout, the Bulls tried to pound the ball inside but Carmelo Anthony, who finished with 41 points and 7 rebounds, stripped the ball from Andres Nocioni and ran the court for an uncontested layup. Chicago scored on their next possession then Nocioni came up with a steal on the perimeter and fed Shawn Kemp for a layup to tie the game at 109. Andre Miller took a three that rolled out as time expired, sending the game into its first overtime.

Chicago appeared to be in control early in the first overtime but a couple of costly turnovers allowed Denver to take the lead. The Bulls were forced to foul Andre Miller with the Nuggets leading 120-119 in the hopes of getting off one last shot. Miller made both free throws and the Bulls called timeout, bringing on their best three point shooters including recently acquired Matt Carroll.

Carroll received the ball at the top of the key, faked out Lenard and calmly drilled a three to tie the game at 122. The Nuggets still had time for a final shot but Miller airballed a three out of the timeout, giving Chicago a chance to win the game with 0.7 seconds remaining. Carroll once again received the ball, this time on the right wing, but the rushed shot didn't fall resulting in a second overtime.

The Bulls were determined not to let another opportunity slip away but the Nuggets played hard, physical defense and hassled Kirk Hinrich and Chris Duhon, preventing penetration attempts. Chandler would shoulder the load however, scoring 10 in the second overtime including the go-ahead basket as Chicago escaped with a 136-130 victory.

Notes: Chicago is 3-0 in double overtime games this season. Their most recent double-OT win came against Indiana on January 14th...Denver won the rebounding battle 48-47 with a 20-17 advantage at the offensive end...11 players scored in double digits with 9 of those players scoring 15 or more.

Ever thought about trading for payton while gordon is out? Kemp and Payton.... Nice victory in Denver. This is what I meant about how injuries add to a dynasty. The way you dug deep to beat the nuggets in denver was impressive, but surely it was more sweeter becuase gordon was out, right?

Definitely, it's a lot better than the days when there'd be no injuries and everyone would play 82 games except the guys at the end of the bench who'd usually pick up a couple of DNP-CDs. I mean, I'm disappointed to lose him for so long and just before the All-Star Weekend because I'm sure he would've been picked for some of the events but I like that I have to make the adjustments and take on the challenge.

I'd trade for Payton but I'd have to give up someone like Duhon to get him which won't be productive long term. I'm hoping to go a few years with this one, simming a lot in the second year onwards.

Chicago (98) at Sacramento (101)
Bibby's three sinks Bulls

[ Boxscore ]

Mike Bibby capped off an 11 point fourth pointer with a three pointer with 8.7 seconds left as the Sacramento Kings held on to defeat the Chicago Bulls 101-98 in Arco Arena. Bibby finished with 19 points and a game high 9 assists, shooting 8/14 from the field in 35 minutes.

Peja Stojakovic also punished Chicago scoring 9 of his game high 26 points in the fourth quarter. Defensive mixups on consecutive possessions saw the Bulls leave one of the league's best shooters open the perimeter in the midst of a run that allowed the Kings to go up by 10 late in the fourth. The Bulls managed a run of their own as Luol Deng stole an inbounds pass and fed Andres Nocioni for a layup to cut the deficit to five. Deng nailed a three on the Bulls' next trip down the floor and broke loose for a fastbreak dunk on the next to even the score at 98.

Sacramento called timeout and Bibby dribbled off the clock before launching a three from the right wing that found nothing but net with 8.7 seconds remaining. Out of timeouts, Chicago rushed the ball up court and found Matt Carroll on the left wing but his three point attempt was off-target. Kenny Thomas grabbed the rebound as time expired, preserving the Kings' victory.

The Kings had led most of the game, scoring 7 straight points after the Bulls made the first bucket of the night. Chicago would not lead again until the final minute of the third quarter when they went ahead 72-69 and held a 74-73 advantage heading into the fourth.

Notes: Sacramento shot 41/77 (53.2%) from the field...the Bulls outrebounded the Kings 43-29 in a losing effort...normally stingy with fouls and free throws, the Bulls sent the Kings to the line for 17 attempts, of which they made 15...at the 50 game mark, Shawn Kemp is the only Bull to play and start in every game.

Why not trade pargo/othella/piatkowski for him? try to come up with a package of seldom used role players and you should be able to get him :).

Stong effort with kemp starting each game, and tough loss to sacramento. are you confident of being able to catch cleveland?

I've already traded Harrington to Charlotte. Pargo and Pike aren't attracting much interest. At this rate I don't think I'll catch Cleveland, but I might get the chance to knock them off in the Playoffs.

February 12th, 2006
Chicago (73) at L.A. Clippers (94)
Bulls struggle in fourth, Clippers win by 21

[ Boxscore ]

The Los Angeles Clippers got a surprising lift from rookie forward Yaroslav Korolev, who came off the bench to score 18 points and grab 9 rebounds in the Clippers' dominating 94-73 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Kirk Hinrich led the Bulls with 16 points but was just 7/19 from the field and missed all five of his three point attempts.

After losing the lead in the final minute of the opening quarter the Clippers struck early in the second and soon built a ten point lead. Although the Bulls would reduce the deficit they were unable to get by the Clippers who held a six point lead at the half having outscored Chicago 26-19. The Bulls struggles continued through the second half as they failed to even match their first half total.

"They just outplayed us, man," a visibly dejected Chris Duhon told reporters after the game. "We didn't bring our game in the fourth quarter. We didn't fight for it tonight." Duhon had 12 points and 7 assists starting his third straight game after returning to action following a sprained finger but was 5/16 from the field.

It was the first time in nearly two months that the Bulls have dropped two straight, with the last back-to-back loss coming December 14th against the Toronto Raptors. The win allows the Clippers to inch closer to the .500 mark, as they now sit at 24-26, fourth in the Pacific Division and 11th overall in the West.

Notes: The Clippers held the rebounding advantage 47-38...the Bulls were just 1/18 from downtown with Chris Duhon making the lone three...the Bulls' total of 73 points is a season low and the first time the club has been held below 80 points this season. Their previous low was 90 in a loss to Utah on February 6th...the Bulls shot 36% from the field (31/86) while the Clippers shot the ball at a 48.2% clip (41/85).

Yeah that would be a sweet storyline: Cleveland gets the top seed, has the new king of basketball leading them. Then they meet chicago and a rivalry is renewed. Are you confident of being able to beat Cleveland in a 7 game series?

So long as I have Gordon, I think I can do it. I'm 1-1 against them this year so we'll have to see how the next two games play out. But I think I can find a way to do it.

February 14th, 2006
Sacramento (116) at Chicago (100)
Kings sweep season series with Bulls

[ Boxscore ]

It may have been Valentine's Day, but the Sacramento Kings showed the Chicago Bulls no love in their return to the United Center. Peja Stojakovic scored 15 first quarter points as the Kings went up 34-20. They never looked back, leading by as many as 28 during the third quarter and never allowing the lead to dip below 11.

Shawn Kemp, who had 4 points and 8 rebounds in the loss, was disappointed but philosophical about the loss. "We're just in a funk right now," he explained, "Ben's out, we're tired and we're rattled. We just need to get our heads on straight and give 100% from start to finish." Kemp and the other starters rested most of the fourth quarter but did return midway through the period when the Bulls looked to be on the verge of an unlikely comeback. The run stopped dead however and the starters were pulled for good with 4:23 remaining.

Mike Bibby was again a thorn in the Bulls side despite only playing 27 minutes due to foul trouble. Bibby hit the game winner in their previous contest in Sacramento and this time delivered a solid performance with 17 points, 8 assists and 2 steals. Bonzi Wells was also a key contributor with 16 points and a team high 9 assists, while Kenny Thomas grabbed a game high 14 rebounds.

Notes: Chicago has lost four of its last five games, their worst stretch since a five game losing streak from November 7th to November 16th. The team had not lost three straight since then...Sacramento shot 58.5% from the field, connecting on 48 of 82 attempts...both teams grabbed 39 rebounds with the Bulls winning the battle on the offensive glass 17-11.

Current Record: 31-21
Next Opponent: Philadelphia 76ers (31-20)

Obviously not my best two performances but if there's one positive I can draw from them it's that it improves my standing in the Draft. One of the players I'm most interested in as moved up from being projected late first round to top 20 so I might miss out on him. I'll be trying to trade up before the deadline but I might have to trade for him after the Draft since he's likely to go before my pick.

Do you hope you meet cleveland in the conference finals or semi finals? Tough losses against the kings, do you think they are better in live with artest or stojacavic? Also, do you get the feeling that your guys are playing at a lower level becuase of the gordon injury?

30 more games to go. What would be your ideal record during that span?

At my current form, even 15-15 would be nice. ;) Anything over .500 would be ideal since I'd like to finish as high as possible though I don't mind the idea of being an underdog challenger or getting a pick closer to the middle of the first round. I'm not going to tank any games but if I do struggle a bit while Gordon's out I still believe I can make it work in the long run.

Thats close to what I thought: 16-14. It would be nice to hit the 50 wins but oh well. You would have to get flashbacks or yuor early January form. At least the first round should provide a challenge.

Elden Campbell :headbang:

I used him in my old Pistons dynasty, he was a great bench player.

Good as always, sucks to see Gordon out. But you're doing well without him. Keep it up. (Y)

Thanks for the comments, though I wouldn't say I'm doing all that well without Gordon. ;)

Philadelphia (95) at Chicago (92)
Sixers hand Bulls fourth straight loss

[ Boxscore ]

The Bulls will not be heading into the All-Star Weekend with the momentum they would have liked, having dropped their fourth straight and their second consecutive home game to the Philadelphia 76ers 95-92.

Chicago finished the first quarter 19-18 but were again outplayed at the beginning of the second quarter and found themselves trailing at halftime. Clearly mindful of their second half struggles in recent times the Bulls tightened up their defense and attacked relentlessly in the third, getting 11 points out of Dajuan Wagner who appeared in just his fourth game for the Bulls. Wagner would finish with 17 points in the game, shooting 8/16 from the field. The Sixers relinquished the lead and trailed 67-63 heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter would not go to plan for the Bulls as a cold streak and turnovers plagued the team early on. Philadelphia took the lead but Chicago stayed with them tying it up at 79. John Salmons then hit a three pointer that put the Sixers ahead for good at 82-79. The Bulls would attempt one last rally but a second three pointer by Salmons put the game out of reach. Hinrich would nail two threes from the top of the key but time ran out on the Bulls, whose record now stands at 31-22 heading into the All-Star break.

Notes: Chicago committed 17 fouls and 24 turnovers, well above their season averages of 11.3 and 15.3 respectively...the Bulls attempted only four free throws, making three. They are averaging 18.9 free throw attempts per game on the season, making an average of 15.5 per game. Philadelphia made 18/20 free throws.

Nocioni to represent Bulls in Rookie Challenge

CHICAGO, IL -- Forward Andres Nocioni will represent the Bulls at the 2006 All-Star Weekend in Houston, TX, as a member of the Sophomore team in the Rookie Challenge. Nocioni has appeared in all 53 games for the Bulls so far this season starting 41 times, while posting averages of 13.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 2 apg. He is also shooting 55.7% from the field and 89.2% from the free throw line.

This will mark the seventh straight year the Bulls have had at least representative in the Rookie Challenge beginning with Elton Brand in 2000. Since 2000 the game has featured a team of the top rookies taking on a team of the league's best second year players. The Sophomores lead the all-time series 5-1 with the Rookies' lone victory coming in 2002.
