Los Angeles Lakers (1-0) To Battle Vastly-Improved Utah Jazz (0-0)

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) Nov 03 -- After winning their first game of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers will fly to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz, another team which vastly improved compare to last year. The Jazz will parade a very awesome frontline with the newly- acquired duo of Memo Okur and controversial forward Carlos Boozer plus a versatile player in Andrei Kirilenko.

“I hope we can duplicate our last night win but I know it will not that easy,” said Coach Rudy T.

“After our practice yesterday, I watched the Nuggets-Lakers game. Lakers seems more quick and athletics compared to the Lakers I met in the Finals,” Memo said.

Fatigue factor will be a concern for Lakers as they battle a hard fought overtime game against the Denver Nuggets last night and immediately flew to Utah this morning.

“Yeah, we’re a little bit tired, on last night game and traveling here. But we’re professional, we have to give everything we have to give a good fight”, Bryant said.

“Actually I’m more concern with my team, we didn’t play competitive basketball for few days, we might be rusty and that’s what in my mind right now”, Coach Jerry Sloan said.

Jazz will be playing without their starting point guard Carlos Arroyo, Mcleod will start in his place.

Tonight's Key Matchup:
Lamar Odom vs. Andrei Kirilenko

This match-up will feature two versatile forward in NBA today. Both Odom and Kirilenko can play multiple positions, can score anywhere in the court, can rebound, pass and play good defense. Odom, coming from a big 29 points and 16 rebounds including the game winner shot while AK47 will be fresh from the pre-season games. Whoever wins this match-up will definitely give his team a big chance to win the game.

Another double-double performance from
Odom, 22 points and 15 big rebounds

Questions about Lakers being tired were quickly answered. The Lakers squad jumped to an early 12-4 lead. Odom continues with impressive showing this season as he easily scored 10 points and grabbed rebounds. Odom is winning his battle with Kirilenko who saddled with 2 personal fouls. Giricek led the Jazz to catch with 7 points but with 30 seconds left, he picked his 2nd foul. Lakers lead 24-21

Coach Sloan made a terrible mistake but letting Giricek play with 2 fouls. With less than 1 minutes of 2nd quarter, he was called for his 3rd personal foul trying to steal the ball from Bryant. With Kirilenko and Giricek out with foul trouble, the Lakers then blew the game away by outscoring the Jazz 21-10. Jazz without 2 of their offensive option, try to make it a defensive battle, they was able to hold Lakers scoreless in last 1 ½ minutes and scoring 6 to trim Lakers advantage to 8 points.

KEY PLAYER OF THE HALF
Image

Lakers try to pull away in the 3rd quarter. They build an 18 points lead and was cruising along the game. But in the midway of the quarter, Boozer made a hard foul on Mihm. Mihm injured his back in that play and was forced to go back to the locker room. With Mihm out, Jazz made another comeback but Lakers held their ground for a 72-59 lead going to 4th quarter.

Lakers player found out that Mihm will not be able to play the rest of the game. Grant, in place of Mihm, made a good account of himself as he scored 7 of his 11 point in this quarter while guarding a much bigger Okur on the other side. Lakers finally pull away in this quarter. This time Jazz wasn’t able to make another comeback as Lakers held them to 21% shooting for 13 points. Lakers won their 2nd game.

San Antonio Spurs (1-0) Will Test if Los Angeles Lakers (2-0) Are For Real.

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) Nov 04 --San Antonio will have a first look at the Lakers, the team that eliminated them in the Western Semifinal playoff. But there will be no Shaq, who give trouble to Spurs frontline. There will be no Payton, who after struggle in first 2 game of the series, manage to recover and make life harder to Parker, And there will be no Fisher, the player shot the game winner with 0.4 sec of deciding game 5 of the series.

Spurs lost Turkoglou in free agency but get a combo guard in Brent Barry. Barry will come from the bench to replace both guard positions and a very good shooter than Hedo.

“They were a team on a roll, they win 2 straight games and their confidence is high. They will have an advantage in speed but I think we have the size” said Coach Popovich.

Spurs got a good game from Tony Parker scoring 24 point and 5 rebounds and dishing 7 assists but got only 13 points from Duncan against Sacramento Kings. They manage to win that one 92-82.

Lakers on the other hand, get a solid offensive game with 4 players averaging in double digits. Odom leads the team with his 25.5 PPG while Bryant 23 PPG. Also Odom led the team in rebounding (15.5 RPG) and assists (5.5 APG).

“This maybe the biggest test for us and with Chris questionable tonight, we will face a big problem containing Duncan and Nesterovic” said Coach Rudy T.

Tonight's Key Matchup:
Bruce Bowen vs. Kobe Bryant

Bryant will try to bounce back from a low 14 point production against the Utah Jazz. But Bruce Bowen will try everything to stop Bryant. In the past, Bowen had done a superb job limiting or making life hard for Bryant. This will be a matchup of offensive player vs. a defensive specialist. Whoever wins this matchup will have a great effect on the outcome of this game.

Probable Starters:

San Antonio Spurs (Season Stats)
C-Rasho Nesterovic- (5 PPG, 14 RPG)
PF-Tim Duncan- (13 PPG, 8 RPG)
SF-Bruce Bowen- (5 PPG, 5 BPG)
SG-Manu Ginobili- (23 PPG, 4 SPG)
PG-Tony Parker- (24 PPG, 7 APG)

Los Angeles Lakers (Season Stats)
C-Brian Grant- (9.5 PPG, 4 RPG)
PF-Lamar Odom- (25.5 PPG, 15.5 RPG, 5.5 APG)
SF- Caron Butler- (10.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG)
SG-Kobe Bryant- (23 PPG, 6.5 RPG)
PG-Chucky Atkins (9 PPG, 4.5 APG)

Parker dominates all who guarded
him even Odom

With Mihm sideline with because of sore back, Lakers was forced to start Grant at center. Lakers missed their first 11 shots with 4 of them were blocked by either Nesterovic or Duncan. They went scoreless in about 4 minutes and scored their first basket midway in this quarter. Spurs built a 12 points lead and that point they cruised along that quarter. Lakers shot 20% from the field and end the quarter trailing by 13, 25-12.

Lakers saw some good sign as they made a 12-2 run in the beginning of the quarter. But the Spurs got their composure back and successfully protected their lead. Spurs got a good lift from Barry leading a mini run to outscored Lakers in final minutes of the quarter to up again their lead to 8.

KEY PLAYER OF THE HALF
Image

The game started to be a close game when Lakers cut the lead to 4. But when Bryant was called for his 4 foul and need to sit down. This was the opportunity the Spurs needed to make a big run headed by Parker as he dominates Brown and Atkins in offense. In the end of the quarter, the Spurs now have a commanding 72-55 lead.

Lakers try to make a run but the Spurs were too much. Duncan who struggle in the first 3 quarter, scored 10 points as he joined Parker and Ginobili in offense. The game was already decided when Spurs build a 27 point lead with 7 minutes left. Bryant didn’t give up and try to bring back or even made the score respectable. The Spurs showed the Lakers that they are the favorite to win this year, winning a blowout game. Lakers now with 2-1 record look at their next opponent and also hoping Mihm will be available in that game.

Some Screenshots from the Game
Duncan focused on his defense as he struggled in the 1st half
Nesterovic blocked the 1st shot of Lakers and tallied 6 blocks in this game.
Starting in place of Mihm, Grant finished 1 shy of rebound for a double-double performance
Bryant try to lead a comeback, goes for a reverse dunk

Los Angeles Lakers (2-1)Try to Bounce Back Against Winless Atlanta Hawks (0-2).

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) Nov 07 --Los Angeles Lakers will try bounce back after a lopsided loss to rival-Spurs. Playing without Mihm was a tall order for the Lakers to battle one of the best frontline superstar. Lakers got a little help from their bench.

After winning their first 2 games, Lakers got a reality check as they tasted their 1st defeat. And they will have a great chance to do it as they battle a team that lost an average of 23.5 points.

Lakers played without their starting center in their last game. Grant, Cook and Walton tried to fill the void he left. Mihm got a go signal to play and will probably start tonight. He, along with Odom, will give problems to Hawks frontline.

“It’s nice to be back on the hardcourt, it was hard to sit around and watch my teammates trying their best to win the ballgame”, Mihm said.

“I decided not to let him play last time coz I think we need to rest his back to make it fully heal. With Divac and Slava out for few more game, we can afford to lose another guy due to injury”, Gary Vitti explained

On the other hand, the Hawks are coming from 2 straight setback, both were lopsided. Walker who average 29.5 points will need more help from other guys other than Harrington. Also they need to tighten up their defense if they want to win this game.

We’re still trying to adjust to one another, most of us are new here and we also have a new coach, “said Walker.

Tonight's Key Matchup:
Antoine Walker vs. Lamar Odom

Walker, who more know for his offense will need to stop Odom’s game. While trying to limit Odom, Walker will also need to put big numbers on the scoreboard. On the other side, Odom lahve a great start leading the team in scoring, rebounds and assists. Guarding Walker will be no problem as he already proved that in his last 3 games in which he battle 3 great power forward.

Mihm show no sign of back problem,
tallied 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds

Lakers were surprise when Coach Woodson changed his starting line-up. He started Drobnjak, who didn’t play in the 1st 2 games, in place of Willis. Also he opted to start Childress to match-up against Bryant. That doesn’t pay as the Hawks scored only 8 points in this quarter, on a very low 11% shooting. Lakers shot 505 for a 20 1st quarter points.

In the 2nd quarter, the Hawks tried to reverse their fortune. They were able to do that, scoring 25 on 60% shooting. But they also allowed Lakers to score 24 points to maintain a double digit lead going to halftime break. Childress proved to his coach that he deserved to be in the starting line-up as he battle Bryant toe-to-toe. They both finished the half with 11 points, leading their respective teams.

KEY PLAYER OF THE HALF
Image

Hawks continued to improve their shooting and this time they also tighten up they defense. With that, they were able to trim Lakers’ lead and even took a 1 point lead. But Lakers trying not to repeat their last game mistake, they scored 5 straight points and finished the quarter strong.

Lakers then protected their lead in the last quarter. Bryant led the team with 27 points plus 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Mihm after sitting last game scored 14 points and 10 rebounds. Walker double-double performance was gone to waste as his team suffered their 3rd loss.

Some Screenshots from the Game
Childress suprised Lakers as he start the game, put a good fight against Bryant
Grant continues his nice showing even with Mihm returning
Harrington jam this one, scored 18 points but also committed 7 turnovers
Walker and Rush were fighting for the ball.
Bryant played a near triple-double performance
