Game Preview

Lakers will open its 2005-06 season against the Houston Rockets. Last season, the Lakers lost the season series 3-1. They lost their first 3 meetings against the Rockets before winning the last one. Both teams will parade new acquisitions. The Rockets welcome back Robert Horry after signing last off-season. He will be joined by talented rookies in Frankie Yan and Andray Blatche.

On the other hand, Lakers will parade almost half of his rosters with new faces led by Rafer Alston and Darko Milicic. This will also marked the return of Coach Phil Jackson on Lakers’ bench.

But this game will still be a battle between 2 superstar guards in Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady, both of them are talented and very athletic players.

Game Recap

Image
Kobe Bryant soars high to lead the Lakers
for their 1s game of the season.

The game started with both Bryant and McGrady making their first shot. The battle between these 2 superstars continued in throughout the quarter. They both led their team with 7 points each. But the difference for the game was the supporting cast with Lakers getting a huge lift from Milicic and Atkins off the bench. The Lakers lead, 23-19 after the 1st period. Lakers finished an 11-2 run they started in the 1st quarter to take 27-19. But after that, Rockets put up great defense and allowed the Lakers to score 8 points in the remaining of the quarter. The Rockets, on the other hand scored 20 points behind McGrady and Padgett and took a 39-35 lead at halftime.

After a low scoring 1st half, both teams somehow find their offensive rhythm and the game shifted into a high scoring and free-flowing offensive battle. New Lakers Alston scored 9 points in this quarter and rookie Santos scored all his 8 points in this quarter. Lakers were able to once again grabbed the lea but McGrady took over for the Rockets scoring 10 points to tie the game after 3 quarters, the score was 68-all. Lakers continued to lead in the final canto but the Rockets don’t allow them to pull away. The Lakers biggest lead in this quarter was 4 point. Bryant made a lay-up to make it a 4 point advantage with 24 seconds left. T-mac answered with a jumpshot. They fouled Bryant and he calmly sank the 2 free-throws to make it 2 possessions ballgame, 97-93. The Rockets were unable to make another basket and the Lakers won their 1st game of the season.

New Orleans Hornets (0-1) @ Los Angeles Lakers (1-0)

Game Preview

After winning their 1st game of the season, Lakers will play their 1st back to back game of the season, battling the New Orleans Hornets. Bryant led the Lakers with his 25 point production but also got a big help from his teammates esp. Chris Mihm and Rafer Alston. Lamar Odom had a sub-par performance, struggling with his new role as a starting small forward and hobbled by foul trouble throughout the game.

On the other hand, the Hornets are coming from a 117-104 setback against the Wolves. Jamal Magloire had a great game but got a liitle from Baron Davis scoring just 10 points. Rookie Marvin Williams also finished with just 4 points.

Again Bryant will go up against All-star guard in Baron Davis but his match-up with upcoming star in J.R Smith will also be a fun to watch.

Game Recap

Image
Kobe Bryant displays some of his high
flying dunk in a game dominated by the
Lakers from the start.

Baron Davis had a great start for the Hornets, scoring 10 points in this quarter to help the Hornets grabbed an early lead. But Bryant and Mihm continue their great play in this season and made a run to take the lead midway in the quarter. Things got worse for the Hornets when both Magloire and Rogers, starting frontline of Hornets, got into early foul trouble. After the 1st period, Lakers lead by 7, 27-20. Lakers continued to lead in the next quarter. At 6:27 mark, Grant got injured going to the basket. This forced Coach Phil to put Odom back in power forward position with Butler at small forward. With this fast line-up, Lakers extended their lead to 18 point lead. Both Bryant and Alston scored 9 in this quarter while Butler added 8 points. The Hornets still got nothing from his frontline and only Davis scoring in double figure for the Hornets. Lakers now lead, 62-48 at halftime.

The game completely turned into a blowout when Lakers open the 2nd half with a 14-2 run. The Hornets seems lost in the game and never gave a good fight in this quarter. The Lakers even took a 30 point lead before the 3rd period ended. In the 4th quarter, Lakers’ bench players almost played the entire period. All Lakers players scored in the ballgame with 6 players scoring in double digits. Baron Davis finished with 25 points while Marvin Williams added 24 points. Lakers win this one convincingly, 114-91 and now on a 2-game wining streak.

Screenshots from the Game

Brian Grant never came back after he got injured early in the 2nd quarter.
Rafer Alston stole the ball which resulted into a 3-point basket by Alston.
Marvin Williams showed his athletic ability, goes for a dunk in traffic.
Jamal Magloire struggles the entire game but made an alley-oop dunk.

Portland Trailblazers (1-1) @ Los Angeles Lakers (2-0)

Game Preview

Lakers will try to extend their winning streak to 3 games when they battle the Portland Trailblazers. After winning a close game against Rockets, Lakers won by a blowout against the Hornets. Bryant led the Lakers in this 2 victories but the inspired all-around game of Chris Mihm is the reason for Lakers success. The Lakers will be playing without Brian Grant, injured in the last game, and will be replace by Caron Butler in the starting unit.

On the other hand, the Blazers were coming off 108-87 loss against the Mavericks after winning their 1st game. Derek Anderson led the team in scoring while Randolph and Miles both average double figures in rebounds.

Lamar Odom continues to struggle in this season and Lakers hope that his match-up against Zach Randolph will give Odom the added motivation to break his early slump.

Game Recap

Image
Zach Randolph dominates against Lakers,
finishing with 31 points and 12 rebounds

After 2 sub-par game, Odom showed some aggressiveness going to the basket early in the game. He finished the 1st quarter with 6 points but the Blazers behind Randolph and Stoudamire, held an early lead. Randolph also dominated the board, grabbing 5 rebounds, mostly from the offensive end. After the 1st period, Blazers led 29-22. Odom continued to play his best game of the season, scoring 10 points in the 2nd quarter. Unfortunately, it was Bryant turn to struggle, thanks to blazers great defense. He was limited to only 2 points in the 1st half. But still the Lakers fought toe-to-toe with the Blazers and only trailed by 3 points at halftime. Lakers found no answer to Blazers offense esp. against Zach Randolph. At halftime, the score was 56-53.

Lakers continued to cut the Blazers deficit which once stood at 10 points. They were able to tie the game at 66-all when Bryant got his game going in this quarter. But the Blazers made a 6-0 run to make it 72-66 and hold on to the lead until the end of the 3rd period. In this quarter, Miles joined Randolph to helped the Blazers maintained their lead. In the final period, Lakers again try to make a comeback but their closest they can get was 4 point. Miles and Randolph served as the biggest obstacle in Lakers comeback as both players made timely baskets to kill every Lakers run. In the end, the Blazers successfully protected their lead to in this one 110-102. Randolph finished the game with game-high 31 points while Miles added 25 points. Odom played an all-around game tallying 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for a losing effort for the Lakers. While Bryant scored 20 of his 22 in the 2nd half.

NLSC BALLERS 1-on-1 TOURNAMENT

With the in flux of young talented players from the NLSC forum, the NBA Board of Directors decided to put up a mini tournament. This will be a 1-on-1 tournament that will fit NLSC Ballers against one another. This will begin on Nov. 5, 2005 and will be played every Saturday of the week. It will be a single round elimination and the finals will be held on All-Star Weekend as one of the festivities event.

As of now, there are 16 NLSC Ballers and their ranking will be based on how they were drafted in the draft. The no.1 seed will go up against the #16 seed.

The first match will be against #2 pick Rommel Ritarita going up against 30th pick Andrew Watson. The remaining schedule will be announced later this week.

----------
I will not play any single game of this 1-on-1 tournament or even single second in a game. I let the CPU decide who will win this tournament....
So to all NLSC Ballers, GOD LUCK!!!

San Antonio Spurs (3-1) @ Los Angeles Lakers (2-1)

Game Preview

This game will be the rematch of last season Western Semifinals match won by the Spur en route to their 3rd NBA champion trophies. The Lakers are coming off a lost against the Blazers and now playing their 2nd back to back games. In that lost, Lamar Odom finally breakaway from his slump, finishing with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Bryant struggled early in the game before finding his game in the 2nd half. They will still be playing without Brian Grant.

On the other hand, the defending champs were off to a good start, winning their first 2 before splitting their next to for a 3-1 record. Tim Duncan led 5 Spurs players averaging double figures. He also average 11 rebounds per game.

Lakers will not only need to contain Duncan but also its perimeter players like Ginobili, Parker and Barry. Lakers again will be led by Bryant and hope Odom continues his great game in order to have a great chance to win this game.
Game Recap

Image
With Bryant and Odom took care on
offense, Chris Mihm did a great job on the
defensive end.

The game started pretty ugly, or let just say more of a defensive battle. Both teams were unable to make a basket. Luckily for the Lakers, they were able to go to the line 11 times and made all of them. Lamar Odom continues to play aggressive, going to the baskets. He finished the 1st period with 10 points and helped the Lakers led by 7, 24-17 going to the 2nd quarter. Lakers continued to lead in the game, thanks to Odom offense and Mihm defense. Bryant and Butler both struggle in the 1st half. Butler was held scoreless while Bryant only scored 7 points. Tony Parker and Brent Barry, who replaced Ginobili due to foul trouble, combined for 19 points in this quarter to make a run and cut the Lakers deficit to only 2 points, 45-43. A buzzer beater by Bryant gave them a 4-point cushion going to the dugout.

Spurs woes continued in the 2nd half when they saw both Bryant and Butler caught fire. Bryant made 7 points in this quarter while Butler scored 8 points after a scoreless 1st half. This gave the Lakers their biggest lead at 16 points. But again, the Spurs showed their composure as they slowly cut the deficit to only 8 points midway in the quarter. Duncan scored 10 points in this quarter. Lakers made a big run to end the quarter and held a 10 point lead with 1 quarter left. Lakers protected their lead and answered every Spurs run. Manu Ginobili tried to single-handedly bring back the Spurs but the Lakers seem want this game more. Bryant 2 3-pointers late in the game sealed the deal for the Lakers and win this 105-98.

Screenshots from the Game

Rafer Alston goes for a follow-up dunk.
Caron Butler scored all his 12 points in the 2nd quarter, including this high-flying dunk.
Tim Duncan's 24 points and 11 rebounds were not enough to give the Spurs a win.
Rasho Nesterovic 1 of his 7 blocks in this game.
