THE GAME: GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS vs. SACRAMENTO KINGS

ImageImage

Second consecutive game at home for the Warriors against another perennial Western Conference contender, the Sacramento Kings. It was very close at the beginning, with the two teams contesting head to head, with being able to take a legit lead. Jason Richardson led Golden State, while Kenny Thomas had his way in the paint against his opponents, and the quarter ended 20 all. In the second period, it was pretty much even, as well, with an early 10-2 GS run led by Jason Kapono and his two treys, quickly being counteracted by Cuttino Mobley and Brad Miller who went on a scoring spree and leveled the match once more, leading into a slow moving final minutes that saw the two adversaries going into the half with a score of 42 – 45. The third quarter of play was also relatively fast-paced and sometimes reckless, but the Kings were more into the flow, and managed to slowly build a lead to take into the final stretches with them. Mobley was unstoppable from the perimeter, all the while Brad Miller and his soft hands caused no end of trouble for Murphy, Swift and Kaman in the paint. Murphy had a fantastic move actually dribbling BENEATH Corliss Williamson during a play (see picture below) but wasn’t consistent enough to help his team reclaim the edge in the paint. In the fourth and final period, Brad and Cuttino kept on their scoring ways, with the rest of the Sacramento palyers being wise enough to have their offense ride those two players. J-Rich and Murphy were trying, but the absence of Baron Davis’ leadership was obvious in the crucial few final minutes, which lead to Sacramento taking this game, 91-99.

Hopefully, but I'm playing the Suns and Kings again away, with B-Davis out, and not to mention some more bad news:

Breaking Team News: In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, Golden State Warriors forward Luke walton has been diagnosed with a fractured right wrist and will subsequently miss about 7 WEEKS worth of action, meaning he is out for the rest of the regular season and , potentially, the first round of the playoffs. Walton had no problem during the course of the Sacramento game, but upon changing in the locker room, complained about severe pains in his right hand. After X-rays wer etaken, the bad news were announced to the rest of the Warriors' coaching staff, players and fans. With only Rodney white a legitimate SF in the bench, things do not look all too rosey for Golden State's late season playoff push... :? :( )

Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:33 pm

Rosey :? :?

No it does not look good at all for the Golden State Warriors. It's up to J-Rich now..

Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:34 pm

Yes unlucky loss!

Not unlucky. BD was missing, hence the defeat. :|

hard luck Weaver, heed to my calls to sign a PG on a 10 day contract

The 15 man roster is full, and I don't want to release anybody... :!:

 I'm 0-3 against the Kings in the regular season series... I'm playing them again in 2 days... 8-)

Man, Luke Walton injured....more trouble for the Warriors
You still got Kapono...

Fri Jul 22, 2005 7:05 am

Ouch, that sucks. Don't make any more transactions for a while. It is unrealistic to make like 7 trades in one season.

I'm way past the trade deadline, anyway...

Aye, J-Kapp will better cut it with the increased minutes...

Fri Jul 22, 2005 12:08 pm

Whenever I do a dynasty, I never do more than two. Except for my first Live 04 dynasty where i made upwards of 20 trades and my roster was:

C - Yao
PF - R. Wallace
SF - Stojakovic
SG - R. Allen
PG - Nash

And my bench suffered. The only way I got those players were by grabbing FAs, trading up, and tradi9ng up some more until I got the ideal lineup. However, in live 05, I rarely make trades.

I usually go about the same way, but let's face it: The Warriors NEED rebuilding...

THE GAME: PHOENIX SUNS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

ImageImage

3rd game with Baron Davis absent due to injury, and the Warriors face a tough opponent once again, this time the Phoenix Suns in America West Arena, in Arizona. Golden State would also, for the first time this year, be without the services of starting Small Forward since the Dunleavy trade, Luke Walton. Despite these absences, the visitors went into this game early with passion and poise, hitting almost every open shot and minimizing Amare Stoudemire’s impact on the Suns’ offense. Kapono started the quarter with 2 straight bombs, with Jason Richardson taking the mantle later on, finishing the first 12 minutes with 11 points. The quarter ended 22 – 31.
Phoenix would get their act together in the second, though, and with containing defense focused on Richardson, managed to shortcircuit Golden State’s scoring capacity, leading in them making a scoring run of their own to reclaim the lead. Quentin Richardson was bombing away from the perimeter, and Shawn Marion’s rebounding didn’t hurt either. The half-time score was 48 – 43 for the Suns.
In the third period, it was Golden State’s turn to take the reigns again, with Richardson waking up and proving to be unstoppable in both his jumpers, threes and drives, to finish with 27 points in 30 minutes. Swift was helping him with his all-around play, and Kapono was making his uncontested threes without breaking a sweat. Phoenix’ offense was spearheaded by Nash’s 5 assists and Q-Rich’s outside shooting, for the third quarter to end with a sore of 80 – 78.
The 4th period of the game certainly did not lack excitement. Phoenix and Golden State were contesting toe-to-toe up until the end. Richardson still hadn’t found his match on defense, Stro was bringing down the boards and swatting shots like a man possessed, all the while Amare Stoudemire woke up and led a late charge for the Suns that saw them tie the game at 100, at the end of regulation. Another GS game goes to overtime, then…
The extra period was all about Steve Nash and his playmaking and shooting abilities. Almost each and every one of Phoenix’ 15 points in the extra 5 minutes was the courtesy of the Canadian guard, whether it be by shooting the three, passing through the eye of the needle or sinking crucial free throws. With his help,
the Phoenix Suns managed to defeat the Golden State warriors, 115 – 111 in overtime.

I can understand why you must dislike the Warriors, being a Sacramento fan and all. But all we "Northern Californians" should unite against the dreaded LA...

Sat Jul 23, 2005 3:11 am

I agree with you on that.....LA you are going down

Sat Jul 23, 2005 4:46 am

Tough loss...J-Rich played a great game, although he had 10 TO's....
Good Luck next game! 8-)

Sat Jul 23, 2005 5:21 am

Tough loss, I think you should have tried to sign someone or make a deal because you really don't have a solid backup PG.
